SIDES - Inaugural Game Thread
Welcome! This is the beta version of the new TwoPlusTwo forum.

SIDES - Inaugural Game Thread

In this thread, we will play a new word game called Sides. It's somewhat similar to codenames, but cooperative and different.

Sign up with /in below if you want to play.

In this game, a target word will be randed as will a row of 7 cards that have letters on them (most 1 letter, some 2/3/4 letters).

2 people will be the guessers and everyone else will be able to give a clue.

The clue given must start with the letter on either the first or last card (the 'sides' of the row).

We discuss as a team who will give the clue with open discussion in the thread such as "I have a 7 letter word starting with a C"

Once there is some agreement on who gives the clue, that person will bold the clue they want to give in the thread.

The two guessers will then discuss in the thread and bold their guess. If it's correct, we move on to the next guessers and the next word. If wrong, then the clue givers post some info like "you are warm" or "you are about 30% there" etc to give directional info on how on track/off track their guess is.

Then they discuss and give another clue. But the person who bolded a clue cannot give another clue for the same word until everyone on the cluing side has clued a word (if we take that long to get the word), so one person can't hog the cluing.

Clues have to be one word, or an acronym, etc like in codenames; they can be hyphenated words

We can also give some info on how the clues relate to each other, or even say a clue is a 0 clue, so the opposite of what cluing for (e.g., clue 'colorful' as an opposite clue because the word is zebra)

I'll provide more details and examples in the thread in the morning, but this should be enough info for you to /in and join so we can play.

If it’s lightbulb, I’m confused as to why either h7 or i12 weren’t used first instead of lava. And if it’s lightbulb, Nich not knowing what l4 was when it could’ve been lamp is a tad concerning.

So maybe it’s lamp? I’m between the two. H7 and i12 work infinitely better for lightbulb. Lava works infinitely better for lamp. Now that we’ve gotten both, I have nfi which way to go.

I mean I guess halogen could’ve thrown us way off and into chemistry. LED also could’ve taken us elsewhere. Incandescent seems pretty straightforward and probably would’ve nailed lightbulb in one.

Starting to lean lamp.

Yh i think its lamp or bulb or something

Lean lamp but we should work out G

Which i cant

Oh, genie lol

Bold lamp at your leisure

lamp

nice catch

Yaaaaay!

LED oh yea that's good haha

My obscure was leg lamp from a Christmas story

Maybe shoulda fired the d3/d6 - dimmer. This word seemed much trickier than would "seem" imo

Rule #1: never mention a clue that is same letter and number as the target

Once you mentioned L4 we had to go with that bc if we clue incandescent or whatever with an L4 clue out there they assume L4 is lamp and never guess it

Good rule. And I never realized I'd committed that error until I read your post just now.

T4 seems like the ticket. I’d call a3 and r4 both good confirmers. G5 also, all three in a very similar vein.

I’m already closer to r4 being the clue with the others as confirmers. It’s has way fewer misdirections than t4, which is a premium confirmer for that clue.

I'm not sure what r4 is but I agree that T4 works best as a confirmer

Think about another definition and then r4 might come to you.

Same for a3 and g5

Can't a3 just not miss? Seems...legal and great?

Oh we don't have access to it yet lol, feel this should still be gettable

g5 seems like it can't go too wrong

If g5 is like a3, then go for it. If they miss them T4 becomes a gimme instead of a confirmer.

Wait for D1iab. And consider r4, please.

R4 is a3. G5 is related, but not exact

I was gonna say we should do r4 for sure, but it looks like it's not a word in the dictionary??? Not sure it's really legal.

I think we have to do g5, but they should get it anyway.

Oh yea I know r4 now

If it's legal obv do that, g5 is not as good of course
