Welcome to the official WPT Global thread!
WPT Global is the real-money online poker business of the World Poker Tour, and we’re about to celebrate our two-year anniversary, having launched in April 2022. After such a short time, we’re already the third-largest online poker room in the world (ranked by PokerScout.com, based on cash game traffic).
We’re joining TwoPlusTwo to share information with you, engage with the community, and answer any questions you might have.
WPT Global is special for a few reasons:
- Our modern platform has been built from the beginning to leverage AI technology. We use this in two main ways. The first is to protect the games by detecting collusion, bot use, RTA use and other forms of cheating extremely quickly. We have the best Game Integrity tech I’ve experienced in my 19 years in the industry, and a team of around 50 people using it.
- The second way we utilise AI technology is in managing our ecology. We ensure that games are sustainable and beatable by reserving seats in every game for casual players and limiting the number of seats per table that can be occupied by highly skilled professionals. I’ll go into more detail on this point later, in the below FAQ, but the net result is - we have the softest cash games you’ll find online, and typical win-rates for regs are 5-10x higher than elsewhere. (If you don't’ believe me, just try them and see for yourself).
- We have had a large liquidity pool from the very beginning, especially in cash games. This is because we partnered with a couple of successful Asia-facing poker rooms to bootstrap their liquidity. Most poker startups face an enormous challenge in growing their liquidity from scratch - this solution allowed us to launch with cash games running 24/7 and it contributes to our soft player pool. Now, WPT Global is a large poker site in its own right and less dependent on the Asia liquidity, and we’re growing our games in US Dollars all the time.
- There is enormous value on offer - our explicit aim is to pay back more to players via promotions and giveaways than any other site. Check out our current promotions here.
- Global Spins is our unique twist on the Jackpot SNG concept, with a progressive jackpot and the lowest rake in the industry (5%).
- As part of the World Poker Tour family, we’re the best place to qualify for WPT events around the world, like the WPT World Championship at the Wynn later this year.
Some of you might remember me and my colleague WPT Global Peter from our previous roles. Many years ago, I was one of the first site representatives ever to engage with the 2+2 community, as the first PokerStars representative in the ‘PokerStars Software Improvement Thread’. Later, Peter and I ran the ‘Official MPN - Microgaming Poker Network...’. You can expect a similar level of transparency and responsiveness here. While I don’t promise to respond to every single thing, no constructive question or criticism is off limits.

What countries is WPT Global available in?
Currently, we have a .com licence and have not entered any regulated markets (although we will start to do so later this year). We’re open to most markets that have yet to regulate, including Canada (except Ontario), Ireland, New Zealand and most of Latin America, Asia and Africa.
We don’t (yet) accept players from the US, UK, Australia, Russia, and most of Europe. If you’re from one of these countries and want to qualify for WPT events then Club WPT might work for you!

How does the ecology management system work? Do you ban winners from playing at WPT Global?
Our ecology management system is specifically designed so that we can run sustainable games without having to penalise winners.
In cash games, our AI technology measures the skill level of every player and predicts their win rate. The model is highly accurate and continually updates so that it cannot be abused or ‘gamed’.
We reserve a number of seats at each cash game table for players that fall into one of our ‘casual player’ categories. In our most popular game (8-Handed NLHE with an ante and a straddle) we reserve six of the eight seats for casual players, which effectively means that highly-skilled pros can only occupy two seats.
Because there is plenty of liquidity, if you find yourself categorised as a pro, you can still always find a game to play at any stake, and you can guarantee yourself a seat in a great game if you start a table, since our ecology management system ensures that only one other pro can sit with you.
The system does not categorise players by their actual win rate, but by how skilled they are. If you have a great run of luck, you will not necessarily be categorised as a pro, and vice versa, you will not necessarily be categorised as a casual player if you run bad.
We find that once players get used to the system, they love it. Both pros and beginners have a better experience because we eliminate some of the common predatory behaviour that occurs elsewhere, and pros can achieve significantly higher win rates. I encourage you to give it a try!
What’s with the games in CNY currency?
Because we partnered with Asia-facing poker rooms to launch, some of our games are in Chinese Yuan (CNY) currency. At the time of writing, the exchange rate to the dollar is about 7.25 CNY to the USD. As we’ve become less dependent on the Asian liquidity we have introduced more USD games. Most cash games and all tournaments including Global Spins are now available in USD, and for those of you that want to play in the CNY games, there’s a handy currency converter in the lobby, and the ability to change the stacks to BB.

I was trying to sit on someones left and software kept putting me on his right.. Think I tried 3-4 times before I realised oh this is probably working as intended :P Can you just confirm this please so I make it a little less obvious next time 😃
Also, PC version is max 4 tables right? Is that the same for MTT's also?

Interesting, I would have guessed they were being created too frequently, and not removed frequently enough.

Hello . I grind hard wpt global and there are many times I have been disconnected - lagged while playing . I don’t have any problems on the rest sites that I grind . I have been disconnected in very crucial spots (like facing 300bb shove river and being unable to call with nuts ). Does this happen only to me ?I have lost more than 1000bbs due to lag . I don’t get why . Nevertheless, I think it’s mandatory for the company to add offline protection timer . We are already paying a ton of money for timers , at least do something to protect us when we have technical issues .

i see that you can now observe tables indefinitely, before if you looked for too long they would ban you from looking or playing the table for 24 hours.
why did wpt change that?
it was the only thing keeping "bumhunters" away from the site.

If you observe too long, you will got kicked out, and hard to join table.
I agree ban looking, but why you want ban they playing?

I noticed an unusual movement involving two players. They went offline simultaneously and returned to the table at the same time. This raises suspicions, though it might just be a coincidence. However, I believe it’s important to report this just in case.
Where can I send you the image I have captured of this incident?

Currently this is the state of the system most of the time, this is why I feel that there are too many 0/8 tables spawning and not enough culling.
I still dont know if this lobby situation for "highly skilled players" is operating as WPT Global expects it to though, they recently found an issue, so maybe they are still working on a fix.
It's tough when starting tables is a rather poor experience and feeling(half knowing) that a portion of players are on their 2nd+ burner account.
Maybe instead of only 2 HSP's per table, it could go up to 3 or 4 HSPs per table when the table is starting.
Maybe the definition for HSP is too loose. I would bet I am way better at poker than most of these alleged HSPs 😃
Also I would bet my shorts that I could outperform the fair game system at recognizing (genuine)HSPs over a few hundred hands.

You gotta sit 3 tables HU and watch lobby like a HAWK for one to pop up. It's the only way to get anything going
I think starting tables would be much better if WPT implemented an option to move tables.
In my mind it would work like that. Once You're seating on 1-4 handed table You can click on a move table option. Once another table with 4-8 players is available for You to seat, the software would move you there or ask you if you want to move before showing the free seat to other highly skilled players. If there is more than 1 highly skilled player on the stake trying to move tables the queue for the seat can depend on who clicked the move table option first.

Just to confirm - you tried to sit at a specific seat at a table, but the software sat you in a different seat, is that correct? If possible, please record a video of this so I can report it to the team. Might just be a UX issue on our end.
It's 4 max cash games and up to 7 tables total currently (on Windows). The current limits are for performance reasons mainly and I think we'll increase them in future.

No, I don't think so. The situation we fixed was that tables didn't spawn early enough, causing some situations where pros couldn't see any tables at all at certain stakes (because all the pro seats were occupied at tables, but a new table hadn't been created yet). When this occurred it became impossible for pros to start tables.

We haven't made it indefinite, but the previous system was too strict causing some legitimate players to get banned, so it's been modified.

To be sure I understand - you are seated at a table, but nobody joins you? What game type and stakes are you playing?

I've thought for a long time about this. Obviously the goal for us as a business is to keep as many tables running as long as possible. In live poker there's a concept called 'must move' that is designed to achieve this. It's something we're thinking about but we don't have any immediate plans.

I have withdrawn all my funds, and out of curiosity checked lobby next day and a lot of 10/20/40 games appeared again..
Now I am thinking, if I depo again will they dissapear? I don't want to play mouse & cat with WPT, just play my beloved game lol

No, they won't disappear if you deposit. It might be that the above mentioned configuration problem (not enough tables being created) was affecting you, we also have more traffic now at those stakes than we did a few months ago.

Out of interest do you have any filters enabled besides stakes? If not - just sit down, you're guaranteed a great game and tables at 10/20/40 fill pretty quickly.

No and the second part has not been my experience. Usually I sit for 15-20 min alone and then give up and find some USD tables.
(I want to clarify that I'm not super upset or anything, you're def right that when I get a game or 2 going they're very good tables)

I used to play Betkings for like 2 years before WPT buy this site and running the software wich today is running.
This stuff "u guys are tagged as pro" wich Alex are saying i don't trust. This "segregation" worked before WPT starting, and from my experiences, the point behind was this : if u start to win,crush a certain stake, the site doesnt want u there anymore because there is not interest for the site to keep winning players on the site instead whales are welcome because they are not winning on the long run and guess who is winning in this case? I'll tell you -> the site, because not cashouts so more rake.
Back to to present, i used to play for like 10 months without any restriction,im probably 30k up and surprise, cant see tables anymore. Reason? Isnt clear for me at the moment, i dont trust wich Alex saying because if go at lower stake where i use to play like ~50k hands but didnt crush that stake to hard, guess what? i can see 4 tables with the rule wich Alex said is not the same for my current stake wich from my logical point of view,that happens because i didnt win enough on that stake.
In the end, i quit this site because i feel this "rule" is shady and favors only the site. #morerakeisbetter
