Swann97: New beginnings (MTTs)

Swann97: New beginnings (MTTs)

Never really used 2p2 before today but here goes.

Intro
I'm Nick, also knows as 'Swann97' online. I'm 22 and from the UK, been playing MTTs online full time for about 1.5 years.

I was playing under Bitb staking academy for the last year, unfortunately in December i got kicked, without making too many excuses i think it was mainly due to them changing their business model and me not fitting that, as oppose to me doing anything particularly wrong. But i won't get into that too much now.

To recap my last year i'm happy with the amount i learned, unfortunately the results don't quite reflect that due to a really brutal downswing towards to end of the year.

Future plans
Although i was encouraged to join another stable by previous backers, after talking to a couple stables i wasn't able to come to an agreement with any of them. So for now i'm starting afresh, spinning up my bankroll from ~$1.5k playing as many tourneys $11 and below. Although if any exciting offers come my way i will consider them.

Summary of my goals this year:

  • 7200 games. My volume was really lacking last year (5k games), and playing is where all the money comes from, its also the best way to overcome variance.
  • Reach $20ABI by SCOOP, $30+ABI by end of year. Sure this isn't crazy but when selfrolling variance can have a huge impact on games i can play, i feel like if i run good this year i can reach $50ABI by end of year, but i want to keep it realistic.
  • No more than 10 unscheduled days off throughout entire year. Last year i felt like i missed too many random days, and i think consistency is the key, turn up every day
  • Do exercise 3 times per week, 1x run, 2x gym. Used to be very sporty as a kid but in recent years i've become very unhealthy, i want to be in shape and healthy so i can feel good, as i think this will have big impact on my poker career.

Why i am blogging
I like the idea of having a blog as its hold me accountable for my actions, i try to be as honest as possible, and i don't want to come here and admit how poorly i've performed.
Also i think this will be a fun place to put up lots of graphs, all my deep runs aswell as HHs of spots that i was unsure about. I also really enjoy documenting my progress.
I intend to post at least 2 times per week, hopefully i can post after most sessions, but a lot of that revolves around how results go 😃

Anyway i hope you follow along, if you want to contact me just drop me msg here and i will do my best to respond.
Also you can follow my twitter https://twitter.com/Swann97_ although im not super active in posting i do check it quite often.

This man has been absolutely CRUSHING as of late - keep an eye out he’ll be a $200 ABi reg in no time

This is my first time even looking at 2p2 in months and seeing the rails and messages people have put in this thread has been really heart-warming. And I'm very thankful, so I thought the least I could do is give a little update since I last posted.

2023 summary
I'll keep this quick since its more boring, basically a pretty bad year results wise, basically broke even. I wasn't happy with the progress I that was making. I ended up taking a break for about 2 months after wcoop. I met my current girlfriend midway through the year who has been super amazing, and really supportive of me and my poker career and helped me a lot during the time that I was taking my break, and she allowed me to move in with her and focus on rebuilding my poker career without having to worry about anything else.

2024 so far
I joined bitb again in February, this time on a cfp (coaching for profits). And I remember one of the things I told them was that I had this big mental block about only having had a single 5 figure score in my career so far.
So anyway:
11th March

23rd April

26th May

3rd June

21st July (technically 22nd)

22nd July

And some other very decent scores that weren't 5 figures!

YTD (Jan-Aug 1st) Graph:

By my own calculations which accounts for untracked sites, rakeback and action sold, I'm up about £122.5k/~$155k this year so far.
It's worth noting that even outside of all those big binks I've posted, I'm still up about $30k-$35k.

So yeah my results have been absolutely ridiculous.
Firstly it's worth saying that I have been running obscenely hot, this cannot be understated, I do not expect this kind of sunrun to continue. I'm probably already in top 0.1% of good variance. I do not want to end up like Icarus.
I think after my initial GG bink, there was a huge weight lifted off my shoulders. Since then basically every big FT I've been quite relaxed, I've had no expectations which has made it a lot easier as I can just enjoy the moment a lot more, rather than worrying about how I'm going to finish.
The SCOOP bink was really cool, I've grinded basically every series since I started playing poker in 2016 gotten pretty wrecked every time beforehand. So to finally win a SCOOP event is certainly like ticking something off my bucket list, I even emailed them about a trophy, and apparently I should be getting one as some point, so I'm really excited for that.
Sunday Million run was really fun, I had quite the rail, so a great sweat. I don't think I played FT particularly well, and watching the replay back was rather illuminating. I thought 1 player was defo getting ghosted at the time, but after watching the FT its pretty safe to say that he was not, or that his ghost was absolutely terrible (or 5000 lightyears ahead of the curb).
530bb HR was also a really proud moment for me, since this was always a tourney that I wanted to play as a part of my daily schedule. Almost like another bucket list achievement. Like if you look at the start of this blog I'm grinding some $3.30 tourneys, so it's nice to look back and see how far I've come.

I try to be careful giving a specific thing too much credit for my recent success, because i think it is unwise to underestimate the power of variance. I could easily lose $50k+ over the next 6 months.
However I do think joining bitb again has been a massive positive for my game, just giving me direction and a lot of banger strategies. And I don't think its a huge surprise that this success has followed soon after joining them. If you are looking to become a beast and are pondering applying to bitb, you can look at this and ask yourself why the **** you haven't already.
I'm also very fortunate so have a few different groups of people that I study with, all who view the game through different lenses and offer different insights that I'm able to use and utilise in my game to be the best player that I can be.

I also feel like personally I've become a lot less bitter, and resentful of other people and their success. This use to be something I struggled with a lot, especially if I didn't think they 'deserved it'. Obviously this is going to be mostly because of the insane good variance that I've had myself. But it's nice that I can just focus more on myself, and no compare myself to others and be happy for their success instead on envious. It's a much healthier mindset that makes my grind much more enjoyable.

Future plans
August will probably be spent being in the lab pretty hard, building up some healthy routines before WCOOP grind. As for expectations I really have none. I'm always expecting the sunrun to end at some point so I just focus on playing as well as I can and not being too arrogant with my gameplay.
Online poker is just really fun, and i think its still super beatable. And i want to push to play more 1ks and see where i can go. I'm really excited at all the new solver tools coming out, and seeing what we can learn from it. I have faith in sites tracking down people who use RTA and applying appropriate punishments. Even then when people are using RTA its just so silly half the time that it makes me laugh (mind gets taken to clip of guy using GTOwiz chipEV preflop sims for a pko FT 😃 ).

As for live poker I've booked flights for a wsop-c stop in Cherokee, North Carolina, USA for November/December. It's a nice looking livestop in the middle of nature, with a bunch of $400-$2k buy-in events which I think will be fun to grind. I've only been to America once as a kid, so i really wanted to go over and play some poker, but i didn't want to go to vegas (although seeing everyone in vegas this year has made me very tempted to go next year). I've also got plans to go to WPT Nottingham right before WCOOP starts. There's a couple fun 2ks and 1k main and some 500s running, so that will be a fun one to try out. I'm basically only interested in playing live events with buyins around 500-2k. Anything less isn't really worth the time unless it's in Glasgow where i live, and anything more I'm not really rolled for or interested in playing quite yet. Also I like livestops where they run a handful of good side events, with daily options, I wouldn't travel to a stop that's just 1 tourney with flights, or only 1 tourney worth playing every couple of days.

As for this blog I'm sorry to disappoint but I probably won't post much. I just got a bit in my feels reading the posts over a year after I stopped posting so I felt like I owed an update. So here I am at 5am typing away, but I doubt this will become a regular occurrence.

I love you all Please feel free to ask any questions, I'll try to answer some stuff over the next couple of days.
