Got back into Online poker for practice

Got back into Online poker for practice

I'm a live poker player - was playing a lot of 2/5 and Omaha before Covid- but got into trading stocks so took a break. Thinking about getting back into poker again for a while, as I'm sick of staring at the computer screen -

at $2/5 and PLO I was making around $50 - $60 an hour with a 7000 hour sample size

Online I am making

Very small sample size - but what is a realistic win/rate for $1/$2 online? I'm only playing .10 - .25 and how much harder is it when you move up?

Am interested in BB/100 - as i've heard decent 1/2 players can do 7 BB/100 so that would be on average $140 for every 1000 hands played?

So pretty rough downswing for 5k hands - I pretty much just rarely had the best hand at showdown, and got started with a bunch of junk. Also playing Omaha in a high rake environment. Last few sessions went well, was down $90 and ended up positive.

I think I'm gonna play NL50 and PLO50 minimum from now on. I was playing NL25 - PLO 25 on my downswing but I was looking at the rake structure and it's just too high. I could deposit more cash and play NL200 - PLO200 but that kind of defeats the purpose of this - but I think the rake is really problematic at these stakes. The volume I put in is very low - but looking back at my hands, I don't see a lot of mistakes I make. Perhaps there are some I'm not aware of. I am putting quite a few of my hands I play back through GTO solvers and i'm at least getting the pre-flop correct. I assume that's the easiest part of it. Post flop is still challenging

I am getting a 27% rake back - but it's marginal at best. I could shop around - I think some players are savvy enough to get a 50% rake back.

One thing i've noticed is I'm playing a lot of GTO and my Red line is just terrible - so I'm not sure how people are fixing this - unless GTO just has a really bad red line.

Multiplayer GTO will always have a losing redline.

In fact, any multiplayer game where players have identical strategies results in every player having a losing redline and winning blue line (breakeven green).

The reason is because one player's redline loss can become another player's blue line gain:

  • e.g. BTN opens, SB Folds (-redline), BB calls. BTN wins at showdown (+ blueline)
  • But the opposite scenario can't happen. You can't gain redline from another player's blue line losses

Don't sweat the results. Sample size way too small and frankly, at these stakes you should be playing to improve and have fun rather than treating it like a business.

Had a pretty insane upswing - based on my rake from my last post - and I don't play too often, but back in BB/100 positive again. This time only 3.55

Been studying some GTO solvers - I feel like a lot of people are using them for pre-flop solutions while playing live because it just looks like a lot of my OPPs are all pre-flop approved from a GTO solution stand point. No idea if they are using it post flop - but at least pre-flop it seems like they are. It's possible it's just easy to remember, but I wouldn't be surprised if they are using it in real time assistance.

Honestly I think online poker is fun - but only for an hour or 2. After that it's just not. Live poker imo is way better. I can play live poker for 8 hours and still have fun, but online it's like I wanna quit after 1 - 2 hours. I'm just a 4-6 tabler but still. Maybe it's the small amount of money i'm playing for, and while playing live it's just so much more, but how do you guys get excited to play this game every day for thousands of hands over and over again?

So I cashed out of ACR for a little profit - it was good practice but not worth the time of $5-$10 an hour or what ever i was making. I was suspecting a lot of cheating, and strange hands taking place that you would normally not see, so I was thinking of possible card sharing. (Bluff raise with a bare queen of hearts - when no A or K hearts on the board)

I rolled the money into Globalpoker and playing PLO 50 - but I can't track my hands. The games are clearly better - but not as many tables. Still enjoying the 30% rakeback and so far have run up a pretty nice bankroll on there. Will be moving to PLO 100 if this continues.
