So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at low-info Boomers like my religions aunts. I have two questions:
a) Is anyone here who supports Trump bothered by lies like this?
b) Does anyone know what he's even talking about here? Like is there some grain of truth that he's embellishing on bigly?
I agree, they are different - if the US hadn't interfered with free markets then China wouldn't have a USA automobile industry to compete with, which hysterically we now claim they unfairly compete against.

The US still has plenty of jobs, with the lowest unemployment rate of any developed western nation I believe.
Personally I would prefer to be able to get cheap imports without having to work a dangerous factory job.

China been playing with their currencies for decades and the rest of the world didn’t do much because China wasn’t a big threat on many front and they only saw profits for their political contributors probably .
But the macro situation in 2024 is vastly different on many level and so using tariffs to counter currency manipulation is just a tool that can be used against China today !
It’s perfectly viable and efficient strategy .
FWIW PZ, there have been a currency war for over 2 decades , a race to the bottom for currencies , trying to win market shares .

That's true and the western world benefited greatly from China's currency manipulation. China has been credited with lowering the worldwide inflation rate by over 1 percentage point (100 basis points) during the decades in question, colloquially termed "exporting deflation"

And Republicans were instrumental doing the same thing for the finance industry during the 2009 financial collapse - providing trillions of liquidity and free deposit-parking interest to the companies to make their debts whole again. It always surprises me how people can be against government forgiving debt to individuals but seemingly have no problem when the same is done for corporations.

The problem with basing your principles on soundbites is that people who do so rarely understand what those soundbites mean, causing them to come across as exceptionally ignorant.
I think the key word that's missing is "presumed". A person is supposed to be "presumed" to be innocent until proven guilty. It doesn't make them actually innocent.
