ex-President Trump

ex-President Trump

I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?

So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at low-info Boomers like my religions aunts. I have two questions:

a) Is anyone here who supports Trump bothered by lies like this?

b) Does anyone know what he's even talking about here? Like is there some grain of truth that he's embellishing on bigly?

Schlitz mmm has received a substantial temp ban for egregious unprovoked personal attacks on another poster. I left most of the posts up but deleted the worst one that I would never allow to remain up. It seemed to come out of the blue, but his user notes indicate previous warning and bans for similar outbursts, which was considered in deciding appropriate action.

Those people are funny, but there's no reason not to buy 4 bags of chips if you're going to eat them all before they go bad (we eat a lot of chips here). Years ago I clipped coupons, but the store ones are all digital now.

Did you ever think that you guys eat a lot of chips because you buy a lot of chips?

by chillrob P

I don't need to base what I eat on the sales, chicken is certainly fine in the freezer and steak loses very little.

And I certainly don't drive all over the place. I drive by both major chains each week on the way to and from other places anyway.

I don't want to take this disrail much further, but I think my comparisons are fair, and anyone who doesn't take advantage of sales certainly has no reason to complain about grocery prices going up

I can't freeze the perishable items I buy. I don't complain about grocery prices going up, but I have noticed it because it's obvious.

by chillrob P

Maybe gas and groceries have gone up more in other parts of the country and liberal bastion Portland just happens to be the place everything is a bargain, but it just seems unlikely.

You don't think places like California have higher increases than places like Portland?

by chillrob P

I think most of the hoopla about inflation was blown way out if proportion by the sensationalist media (including 'liberal' MSM). Then people just believe what they hear and panic. I remember inflation being far worse when I was a kid in the 70s.

The numbers are published by the government and the media reports on the numbers. You can use their calculator and put in whatever dates you want. Between 3/20 and 12/23, inflation went up 19%. Between 3/21 to 3/22 it went up 9%.

All liberals in America need to read every word of this and actually think about it for a minute POST All conservatives are not brain dead racists. A lot of them are just fed the F up with Biden, his policies, and the media that covers for him. People are going to vote for Trump despite knowing he is a narcistic idiot. He will not, and cannot, end democracy. Attempts to keep him off the ballot are more akin to that.

Well said brother. Good article too.

Chillrob once again showing off his unique inability to see anything from the perspective of others.

Sure, that absolutely makes sense. Tens of millions can observe inflation, governments and other agencies that track inflation agree, but chillrob goes shopping at least once a week and is pretty sure the sale prices got more expensive and then went back down, so it just seems unlikely that those who track inflation and everyone who has observed it could possibly have any idea what they're talking about.

Ah, the fools. Thank goodness chillrob has got to the bottom of this.

Right, inflation today hasn't reached double digits like it did in the 70s - further proof that everyone is wrong about inflation. Hey, it didn't reach double digits, so it didn't happen!

No? Sure, some markets have higher prices than here, they were higher before and they're higher now. I have never heard anything about regional food inflation, but since more food comes from California than anywhere else, if anything I would expect them to have lower food inflation. And Portland is definitely above average cost of living for the entire US.

You're welcome to believe whoever you want, and I guess you have to believe someone since you're not even in the same country, but I'll believe the prices I actually pay. I posted an advertisement and link as soon as someone doubted me, and I have posted photos of gas prices in the past.

It certainly doesn't matter to me what things cost to those who don't care enough to find better deals - if they were struggling, they would do so.

It's the same to me as those who waste their money on cigarettes, drugs, alcohol, and fast food restaurants. If they buy any of those unnecessary items, by definition they have more money than they know what to do with. I've never been well off enough to be able to afford any of those things, but I get by just fine.

Are you trying to push me (and others) into buying into the Republican narrative and supporting Trump? It's not going to work on me, but it sure seems like your goal.

Do u believe chillrob inflation is calculated on regular item prices u can find everywhere or on rare special deal u can find on a specific product at a specific place ?

You speak like house prices didn’t really go up in the last 2 years because 1 person sometimes can find a great deal on a house price, so house prices didn’t move much higher in aggregate but which in reality it really did ..

I'm not calling into question what you pay in your area for the items you buy on sale. I'm pointing out that it's silly to suggest that your limited experience supplants all of the data for the nation as a whole, and for the entire food category. As for not being in the same country, aside from the fact that I'm quite capable of finding many news sources about the US, this isn't some kind of US-only phenomenon. Of course it differs from country to country, but inflation has gone up around the world since the pandemic, unsurprisingly and rather expectedly.

Like I said, another display of your unique inability to see anything from the perspective of others. Chillrob has a freezer, and the money to stock up on things on sale, and the time and means to go to the stores where those deals can be found, so everyone must have those same resources, and if they aren't taking advantage of those deals, it's because they don't care enough to do so.

LOL, what?

I don't think correcting someone about inflation is going to move the needle one iota WRT voting for Trump, just as sharing an incorrect notion that there is little to no inflation of grocery prices isn't going to help Biden. Regardless, the truth is the truth.

Where's the ex-President Trump thread?

New Lincoln Project ad starts about 2 minutes in.

God sent Trump, just like that swarm of locusts.

Iowa caucus results and some warning signs for Trump.

We take comfort in the thought that what happened in Germany could
never happen here, it can and will, if Republicans continue to be reelected.

A bit of a warning sign is the only book we know Trump has read is Hitler's collected speeches.

you must have some good coupons

the thing is trump fixes NONE of the things that republicans pretend they are caring about. the racism and bigotry are the feature. at best they think its funny and think it "ownz the libs" and at worst they agree with it and think they would be better off without minorities/lgbtq in this country.

I actually think he owns the repubs more than he owns the libs. They're just too scared of him to do anything about it.

Just because some reads hitler's speeches doesn't mean they agree with any or all the evil hitler did. That would be like a young kid who wants to be a NFL RB or WR watching game video of ray rice or tyreek hill and you suggesting that the kid is training on how to be a domestic or child abuser.

I must come clean, in the last 4 days I have watched documentaries on Pol Pot, Kim Jung Un, the golden state killer and osama among 5 or so cult related videos. In no way do I support what those men did. My youtube watch history would be getting flagged if the CIA was as simple minded as you.

I’m glad u see no problems in the psyche of maga that trump is really the second coming of god ….

Funny tho that god decided to make trump lose in 2020 if he was the divine elected one .
But that is too much logic to argue with beings leaded by “gods words”

So why ban so many non dangerous books in school ?

Judge Lewis Kaplan threatened to throw Trump out of the trial after he fumed during Carroll's testimony.

he should not be making comments that the jury, or even audience members can hear.

I agree.

I think that Trump knowingly co-opting Hitler's rhetoric about blood poisoning for political gain is much more damning than the fact that he read Hitler's speeches or Mein Kampf. There are tons of political philosophy and history professors/students who have read Hitler's writing.

Bleh, trump's rhetoric is his own. It comes naturally. And, besides, I doubt he's read anything in the last 40 years.

by biggerboat P

Bleh, trump's rhetoric is his own. It comes naturally. And, besides, I doubt he's read anything in the last 40 years.

He hasn't. There are famous viral videos of him being unable to name a book he's read (during a pre politics puff piece) and unable to name a Bible verse.

To me that makes it worse. If you read a lot and read some Hitler stuff, nbd. If you've read like 3 books in your life and 1 is Hitler, you probably like Hitler.

Dude, you buy 4 bags of chips at a time and Hoover them down. That's no better than fast food just because the bag cost $2.50 instead of $4.50 (or whatever a bag chips costs), and talk about an unnecessary item.

As for freezers, try freezing some lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, etc., thaw it out in a month, make a fresh salad, and give us a trip report.

Other than seeing the occasional ad, I pay little or no attention to the Lincoln Project. I just looked at the leadership on their webpage and none of the names means anything to me. Which of them are "pure scum" and why do you believe that?

I'd be interested in the pure scum assessment also. Reading the backgrounds of the leadership of the group shows how there is an entire industry that is in the business of running campaigns. And these people are some of the well established operators in that field. Generally these campaign consultants stick with either republican or democratic candidates or causes but sometimes do both.

I found the references in some alluding to international clients interesting. Foreign leaders often hire US firms to run or assist in planning their campaigns. Some of these firms are literally civilian PSYOP groups, hiring not just civilian PR people but former PSYOP operators. They are the "strategic information" equivalent of firms like Blackwater were for security ops. They often operate alongside US forces but work for the foreign government. They do big strategic planning all the way down to small details on the ground. Like when the liberating forces rolled into Kuwait city in the first Gulf War, who provided the cheering crowds all those flags they were waving round? Hmmm 😉
