Politics and Society Moderation Discussion Only Fans Thread
Hello everyone. I've closed the previous mod thread, and opened this to capture all issues related to moderation policies and actions going forward. I'll kick it off by reposting my intro post from the other thread. Again, I'm happy to be here and look forward to hearing from you.

Hello everyone.
I'm very pleased to have the opportunity to serve as a moderator in Politics and Society. I asked for this position because I believe we are experiencing a polarization in our politics and society unseen since the 1960s. We may well be at a juncture from which we will either make great progress or suffer great setbacks in regards to our democratic foundations and civil rights over the next few years. So I believe it is important to maintain a forum for discussing these important topics. When the other mods had to step back a bit due to their real life time obligations, I asked to join the mod team to help keep the forum going.
I have not followed this forum in the past, though I have been reading through threads the last few days and made a few posts. This has allowed me to get a sense of the initial impression the forum likely makes on new readers who are deciding if our forum is a place they would like to visit regularly and participate in. While I see some familiar names from the live poker forum, many of you I have not had any interaction with to date. I have no preconceived notions of anyone's posting behavior and will essentially start from a clean slate.
I will shortly post more about my modding approach and give my initial impressions of the forum based on my observations over the last several days. I will be soliciting your input on things you like about the forum that you want to remain, and things you don't like that you would like me to change. Your candid input and feedback is very important to me. Especially, please don't hesitate to let me know if you think a policy or a proposal is a bad idea. I'd rather hear it before it goes into effect than after.
My overall modding principle is simple: Be Nice. Disagreement need not be disrespectful, and everyone must be treated with respect. Calling a poster derogatory names or hurling snarky insults never usefully advances a discussion. It just bogs things down and turns off many would be participants. And it's not nice. Don't do it.
My goal is to have a forum where people with a wide variety of opinions along the political spectrum enjoy expressing and debating their views in a spirited manner, free from insults, bigotry and denigrating comments. If you enjoy discussing these important and often polarizing issues in a passionate, yet respectful manner, I look forward to getting to know you and working with you to create a forum people will enjoy visiting and contributing to. You can be as committed, determined and relentless as you like in advocating for your position. Be persuasive, thought provoking and challenging. But be nice.
I want to thank tame_deuces and King Spew for their support in bringing me onboard and for all the time and effort they have put into making the forum better. While I am taking over most of the day to day modding responsibilities, both are retaining their mod status and superpowers, and will be supporting the forum as their availability permits. And I personally welcome their continued advice and feedback.
Again, I am happy to be here and look forward to getting to know you.

I'd be just as upset about Victor getting banned as I am about Kelhus, personally.
The red/blue/purple text paradigm is relevant here. A lot of Victors posts are disguised as red/blue but they are really purple. A lot of times there is an irrational/illogical western bias applied to the dialogue, the narrative, the modding etc. .... Victor will often mirror a posts thats clearly bias towards this western perspective in order to provide balance.
Thats a good thing. A very good thing to have around. And if his balanced posts were purplized he would have a LOT more purple posts than others.
To the contrary, trying to paint his purple posts like they are red/blue, is disgusting, I'm so sick of this behavior.
Glad someone pointed out Victor's posting is balanced. Finally some sanity ITT.
This is confusing because you'd think a blending of red/blue posts would give you a purple post.
Red and blue are both biased colors whereas purple is the color of neutrality.
Standard color theory doesn't work here. You can't blend biased colors together and get a neutral.
Thats on point-that is how it works. When someone posts something biased, thats of the red/blue duality. You want to argue western is blue? Or red? It doesn't matter, its duality.
But if you balance someone's ridiculous bias with a ridiculous counter example, especially on purpose, you might have posted something that is dualistic, but in fact you balanced someone else bias post. So you have posted something bias but your intentions and actions are to balance-purple.
Victor has a ton of red/blue posting, so hes getting called out for being a red poster. Or a blue poster. what ever bias color you ascribe. but the reality many of his posts are just highlighting other peoples bias posts by mirror their sentiments.
Thats unsung purple.
damn. I had thought I had it for a second.
Extreme blue is balanced by extreme red to create purple?
I suppose what is happening in Palestine now is purple and a good indicator of what this type of "balancing" leads to.
Victor has been banned on several occasions. I'm sure he would be happy to confirm.
Sure, Victor's posts are sometimes one extreme in reply to another. But that's not their purpose, as that's how he always posts. It's sort of a case of a broken clock being right twice a day.
perma-banned. obviously. jesus christ.
Victor, life time pass.
"As for Victor, what can I say"
um, nothing?
I am confused as to what was problematic about that post tbh. I even gave you credit for not wanting babies to die, which I dont do for many!
Thank you for not calling me a "hypocritical war loving brainwashed clown" here btw.
bruv that was from like 24 hours ago. I already said "starting...now!" this morning.
you want me to go back to the old way?
A serious war is going on, let them fight.jpeg.
Seriously though, I only read a portion of both posters but a little leeway is fine and if we are talking about Kel V Vic, I think they are staying within the lines of reasonableness for a heavily emotional discussion between regs.
lets take a look at something. I make 2 factual posts that are not directed or critical of anyone.
in return, only one person engages with the substance and 2 mods decide to make personal attacks on me.
who is trolling here? who wants to have a discussion and exchange of ideas? and who wants to make personal attacks and troll.
this is the stuff I deal with and this is why I get frustrated and lash out at times. but, as I told bowser at my own behest, I will refrain and let you guys get your cheap shots.
can you imagine how quick someone like BGP would have gone to the mods if I responded at all like thinman, who has made this lame student loan joke for over a year now.
has a single person on this forum ever actually been “cancelled” by a non-mod?
Accurately pointing that people post transphobic things isn’t “cancel culture”,
Vic, no one thinks you should be banned because you won't argue in the format and style bgp wants. On the other hand, no one is willing to defend your posts, your posting style or assert the validity and/or reliability of anything you post either.
.
Zero personal attacks in my post. Everything I said was directed at your posting style. And not in one of those calling your post stupid when I really mean you're stupid kind of way, either. Completely focused on your posting.
ok so you agree with the facts and substance but you dont agree with the presentation?
Of course not, how could someone who is not a mod cancel anyone else?
The only thing I can think of that would mean here is a banning. If not, what did you mean?
I didn't say anything about the facts and substance, but I just posted about them in the thread where that discussion was taking place.
FYP. Or enhanced it. I'm not here to argue for or against the riding of motorcycles (I mean, I jumped out of a ****ing plane so how could I possibly argue against it?), but without a helmet...amazing that people do this, especially when they own one and have it with them. Yikes.
