The costs of trans visibility

The costs of trans visibility

Yesterday, Dylan Mulvaney broke her silence: https://www.tiktok.com/@dylanmulvaney/vi....

For context, this is a trans influencer who built a 10 million strong following on TikTok. She took a brand deal with budweiser to post an ad on an instagram, and the anti-trans right went absolutely ballistic, calling for a boycott, condemning the company, and to some perhaps unknowable degree it influenced that Budweiser sales dropped by a 1/4 and

. Dylan speaks more personally about the effect of the hatred on her.

What strikes me about this story is that it is just about visibility. This isn't inclusion in sports or gender-affirming care for minors, it was just that a trans person was visible. This wasn't even visibility in a TV commerical that a poor right-winger is forced to see, it was an ad on her own instagram page. We're all in our own social media algorithm influenced bubbles, but from my vantage point it really has seemed that in the last year or so things have just gotten worse for trans people and the backlash to even minor visibility is growing.

We need to do better.

This is odd, since the Bible passages about homosexuality are mostly in the OT, and Jesus said nothing about it.

He was surprisingly cool with prostitutes and other sinners though, so I'm guessing he wouldn't have condemned them.

unless I get specific instructions from mod(s), I can't comment on gays anymore. there is no 1st amendment here

he later has sex with his own daughters after his wife is conveniently turned into salt

wasn't this a more of them getting him drunk and raping him kinda deal? #mentoo

yeah, but in my head canon he was a willing participant who played dumb

Yes, it was. Those shameless harlots!

But to be fair to them, they seemed to believe that they were the only ones left on earth so needed to repopulate.

Unlike the story of Noah, where he and his family actually were the only ones left on earth, so you know they must have been doing all sorts of incestuous stuff.

That's ok, I haven't gotten any specific instructions from mod(s) not to mock Christianity. About which I'm absolutely certain I know more than you.

If you mean that their gender identity is "woman," ok. But saying "transwomen are women" to make this claim is at best confusing. You could just say some people born males identity as women, and I think most people would agree.

.

I wouldn’t say that trans women were born males because they werent. They were assigned a gender different from their actual gender , thats it.

What is a man?

What is a woman?

What is masculine?

What is feminine?

Would it be possible for you to actually answer these questions without avoiding them and pretending like you didn't? So far we have a 100% success rate here

But I did answer those questions at great length in multiple forums and multiple times in this thread. The totality of those questions of course is that society and social constructs determine what is masculine and feminine.
Then I say gender is a social construction and being transgender is innate and then you say that makes no sense, is impossible, is only the consensus of 98 out of 100 people whove studied the issue etc etc. im trying to watch the final tables.

makes sense for this place

There are things like this, showing the phenomenon has roots in brain differences.

https://www.nature.com/articles/s41386-0...

.

The paper doesnt say that the “phenomenon” has roots entirely in brain differences but rather that according to their python scikit classifier is better at predicting an abnormally healthy group of cisgender peoples gender than the classifier is at predicting the gender of transgender individuals, that should be obvious. The article concludes by saying

Based on our brain-structural data, we suggest a dimensional rather than binary gender construct which will contribute to the destigmatization of TIs.

which i more or less agree with.

Do you really think that being trans has nothing at all to do with environmental sources? Every trans person was destined to be that way from birth?

I think people should be able to live how they wish. However, I have a very hard time believing that people know that their bodies are producing the wrong chemicals within themselves that determine their (in)correct gender. I don’t think this is a untrue phenomenon to gender identity.

The source is illegitimate because it doesn't agree with radical leftists and uke.

That's the rule

Its illegitimate because its illegitimate. They promote conversion therapy which literally nobody in this thread had any issue with me calling out as 100% ineffective garbage.

They are essentially an anti-LGBTQ group with zero reach or reputability. Its like asking a Nazi support group about their opinion on the Jewish faith

Do you really think that Trans people secretly want to be discriminated against? Every trans person just wants to be looked down on and treated as lesser by a massive portion of the population?

very well phrased

luciom, you lose massive amounts of credibility when you don't filter the quality of your sources just because they agree with you

No and no, but what does that have to do with my questions?

by chillrob P

No and no, but what does that have to do with my questions?

Your question implies that trans people are choosing to portray as trans because of their surroundings and my response is that nobody in their right mind chooses to be discriminated against

they aren't discriminated against in their circles. a discriminated against introvert normal heterosexual (or closet lesbian) girl, with bad looks, with little friends and no chance for a boyfriend (or girlfriend) will be discriminated against less if she comes out as trans in many (most?) American high schools

That's not what I read him saying. The whole nature vs nurture debate doesn't claim that the "nurture" aspect is choice.

As someone who works with American teenagers who are bullied or things like it, I find your assertion absolutely ridiculous.

There's a world of difference between not finding acceptance (which is what your example describes, not discrimination) and being subjected to actual discrimination, or even hatred.

do you tell them uplifting anecdotes like how being gay didn't stop you from rising to such great heights such as becoming a 2p2 mod?

not really especially at that age no. it's all about your close social circle and if you are invited to pajama parties and stuff

Yes, really.

Equating not being invited to pajama parties to getting discriminated against and bullied for being transgender is pretty ****ed up.
