Moderation Questions and General Chat Thread

Moderation Questions and General Chat Thread

The last iteration of the moderation discussion thread was a complete disaster. Numerous attempts to keep it on topic failed, and it became a general discussion thread with almost no moderation related posts at all. And those that were posted were so buried in non-mod posts that it became a huge time drain on the mods to sort through them. Then, when off topic posts were deleted posters complained about that.

This led to the closing of the mod discussion thread, replaced by the post report/pm approach. This has filtered out lots of noise, but has resulted at times in the General Discussion Thread turning into a quasi-mod thread. This is not desirable, but going back to the old mod thread is also not a workable option.

Therefore, I have created this new moderation thread, but with a different purpose and ground rules than previous mod threads. The purpose of this thread is to provide a place for posters to pose questions to the mods about how policies are applied; to bring to the mods attention posts they think are inappropriate and reach the level of requiring mod action; and for mods to communicate to posters things like changes or clarifications to policies, bannings, etc.

Now let me tell you what this thread is NOT a place for. It is not for nonmoderation related posts, even if the discussion originates from a comment in in a mod related post. It is not for posters to post their opinions about other posters or whether a poster should be banned. It is not to rehash past grievances about mod decisions from months or years ago. The focus of this thread will be recent posts that require action now. Or questions about current policies and enforcement.

So basically, this is a thread to ask mods questions. Which means, pretty much that only mods should be answering those questions. If a poster asks why a particular post was deleted or allowed, only a mod can answer that. Everyone else who wants to jump in with their opinion or their mod war story needs to stay out of it. It just increases the noise to signal ratio and does nothing to answer the question.

Everyone needs to understand that this thread has very different rules than the old mod thread and any other thread. Any non-moderation post will be deleted on sight. Not moved to the appropriate thread, just deleted. So don't waste your time crafting a masterpiece post about wars or transgender issues or the presidential election and then post it in this thread. It will be gone. Also, this isnt a thread for general commentary about our mods performance. Posting "browser sucks as a mod" or any such posts that don't actually ask about a policy or request a mod action will be deleted. Everyone is entitled to their opinion about the moderation of this forum. But this thread isnt for complaining about mods. You are free to go to the ATF forum and make your concerns about modding in this forum there.

So with that intro, this thread is open for those who need to bring questions about mod policies or bring inappropriate posts to the mods attention. Again, it is NOT a thread for group discussions about other posters or for other posters to answer questions directed to mods.

We'll see how this goes. If you have what you feel is an open issue raised in the General Discussion Thread, please copy that post or otherwise reintroduce the issue here.

Thanks.

Can you move it to the BOC thread before it gets deleted please?

I was actually in the process of doing that when ganstaman posted his post.

So please continue the happiness and Italy discussions over there.

Could the Marxism derail in the trans thread be spun off into a "What is Marxism?" thread?

I think we already have about a dozen "what do words mean" threads.

is it allowed to claim radical leftism or radicalism in politics in general is a form of mental illness?

Why not just go the whole hog and say that anyone who disagrees with your basic (very basic) thesis that white people are genetically superior, is mentally ill?

So long as we can call liberals mentally ill

I mean regardless of what you want to think his underlying motivations might be, arguing that white people contribute the most to GDPs isn't the really the hottest of takes.

As a non-white person who does as little as possible to contribute to GDPs I'm not too offended.

Huh! You learn something new every day.

I'm a white person who does a little as possible to contribute to GDP, trying to break the stereotypes.

I'm of mixed race descent and basically look like the prototypical Brazilian. I don't really look Hispanic but have no trouble blending in at least in the cities in Latin America. On the scale of the whitest white person I've ever seen vs the blackest black person from Senegal or somewhere, I'm a 6.5.

i want to preface this post by saying i am NOT asking for more moderation, just clarification.

what i am wondering is why is it allowed to say "people who believe in god are nuts," while it is not allowed to say the same about people who.....well, i won't say it out of respect for rules.

the reasoning we can't debate unsaid topic is because "the forum wants to be a welcoming place for these people."

is the same not true for theists?

Ive received no post report on this, and you dont link to it, so I cant take a look at it. So please either send a report or link the post so I can find it. But it seems to me you are, in fact, asking for more moderation, despite your disclaimer.

no, i would definitely like less but i understand that won't happen. regardless, i know its not your fault, for lack of a better term.

i dont feel the need to have the 'offense' reported and/or deleted. i respect other's viewpoints, even if i don't agree.

Reason?

A question was asked to the mods about forum policy. So only a mod should answer it in this thread.

You look white in your picture. But Brazilians are hot too. No wonder you get frisked at the airport.

Ok sorry I thought we were in the *let's give your opinion" phase of the thread.

My bad

Np. On certain topics I'll ask for other member input. Other times I will allow some topics to continue depending on the level of interest. But generally for policy questions, what happens when another poster answers, then others jump in, often with their opinions rather than what the official policy is, it leads to confusion and clogs the thread.

Ye really my bad you asked a question recently I entered that state of mind but you are right and tbh I am sorry I flooded this thread in the past with OT posts so I'll try to restrain

Ive received no post report on this,

I can only believe you are joking. It happens all the time. Things like, "What can you expect from people that believe in a magical sky man" are far from uncommon.

I'm like sublime and would prefer less moderation. However, I have evolved and decided if there is gonna be moderation, then it should punish people that I don't like.

I do think he's sincere, as I previously thought like him.

You say this like it's a bad thing.

You two have more in common than you might think.

outside of insults and the obvious, there are two issues that seem to be moderated heavily. one is difference in races and the other the mental stability of certain subgroups. its disappointing that in both cases there are things to discuss as to why viewpoints may be true or false, but we live in such hypersensitive times we can't.
