Moderation Questions and General Chat Thread

Moderation Questions and General Chat Thread

The last iteration of the moderation discussion thread was a complete disaster. Numerous attempts to keep it on topic failed, and it became a general discussion thread with almost no moderation related posts at all. And those that were posted were so buried in non-mod posts that it became a huge time drain on the mods to sort through them. Then, when off topic posts were deleted posters complained about that.

This led to the closing of the mod discussion thread, replaced by the post report/pm approach. This has filtered out lots of noise, but has resulted at times in the General Discussion Thread turning into a quasi-mod thread. This is not desirable, but going back to the old mod thread is also not a workable option.

Therefore, I have created this new moderation thread, but with a different purpose and ground rules than previous mod threads. The purpose of this thread is to provide a place for posters to pose questions to the mods about how policies are applied; to bring to the mods attention posts they think are inappropriate and reach the level of requiring mod action; and for mods to communicate to posters things like changes or clarifications to policies, bannings, etc.

Now let me tell you what this thread is NOT a place for. It is not for nonmoderation related posts, even if the discussion originates from a comment in in a mod related post. It is not for posters to post their opinions about other posters or whether a poster should be banned. It is not to rehash past grievances about mod decisions from months or years ago. The focus of this thread will be recent posts that require action now. Or questions about current policies and enforcement.

So basically, this is a thread to ask mods questions. Which means, pretty much that only mods should be answering those questions. If a poster asks why a particular post was deleted or allowed, only a mod can answer that. Everyone else who wants to jump in with their opinion or their mod war story needs to stay out of it. It just increases the noise to signal ratio and does nothing to answer the question.

Everyone needs to understand that this thread has very different rules than the old mod thread and any other thread. Any non-moderation post will be deleted on sight. Not moved to the appropriate thread, just deleted. So don't waste your time crafting a masterpiece post about wars or transgender issues or the presidential election and then post it in this thread. It will be gone. Also, this isnt a thread for general commentary about our mods performance. Posting "browser sucks as a mod" or any such posts that don't actually ask about a policy or request a mod action will be deleted. Everyone is entitled to their opinion about the moderation of this forum. But this thread isnt for complaining about mods. You are free to go to the ATF forum and make your concerns about modding in this forum there.

So with that intro, this thread is open for those who need to bring questions about mod policies or bring inappropriate posts to the mods attention. Again, it is NOT a thread for group discussions about other posters or for other posters to answer questions directed to mods.

We'll see how this goes. If you have what you feel is an open issue raised in the General Discussion Thread, please copy that post or otherwise reintroduce the issue here.

Thanks.

Nothing out of the ordinary, just discussing conspiracy theories and Chinese mythology.

I just recently learned that it is pronounced Pock instead of Pack. Is that right?

You'd never heard his name spoken before until now?

the same can be said about the russians imo.
I mean how they view the US.

he is trolling like always imo

You are not a good arbiter of what is a conspiracy theory.

I agree with Luckbox and think he's defined it pretty well, even if it doesn't allow you to paint Victor as a conspiracy theorist.

They have different views though , and they are far less monolithic at them than the Chinese.

What's really weird (for westerners) about the Chinese is that even if they internally differ significantly about how to achieve their goals, they do share a vision of what would be good for society to achieve, and what the role of china is and should be worldwide to an extent that is unheard of the in west.

Many Russians are much more like us, while maybe notionally having some idea of Russian supremacy because of its past , of superior local culture (like many Europeans) and whatnot, at the end most Russians are individualistic like we are and care mostly about their own wellbeing and that of their close relatives and friends above everything else.

The Chinese are closer to a sense of national unity in considering complete Chinese strangers "family" in some way than we ever were in Europe (Russia included)

Agreed. I should not have posted that, and I appreciate Luckbox's definition.

Apologies Luckbox and thanks for taking the time to write out the definition.

also, i want to add that the overwhelming majority of "Chinese freedom activists" in the United States are cult members of the falungong, a group which believes they can use taiqi to transport themselves to astral planes, communicate with esp, talk to aliens in space, cure cancer, levitate, etc etc

in fact, quite a few hard right publications in the USA are owned by asian cults - falungong owns a good dozen newspapers and online publications, their flagship is the epoch times which today they promote as the real news for real Americans

the other big asian cult which invested heavily USA right wing media is the moonie cult and their flagship is the Washington times trying to confuse people into thinking they are reading the Washington post

they even use the similiar font and styling

so they're not like us in the slightest and they genuinely think we're soft and stupid - which frankly i agree with

that I meant

yea that definintion was pretty good. lucky knows how to
define, he is a linguist who majored in linguistics.

But luckbox said that some mass shootings were (maybe, or probably) fake.
Lucky, why would anybody fake a mass shooting and
which one was fake??

I'm sure it was said on some media or another, but not anything I was actually paying attention to.

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/epo...

The Epoch Times directed millions of dollars in advertising toward supporting President Donald Trump’s campaign and published dozens of articles parroting his lies about the election — resulting in huge growth to its audience and its coffers.

The strategy garnered criticism from fact-checking groups and got it banned from advertising on Facebook, but it ultimately paid off — putting the once-fringe newspaper on a path that perhaps only its leader, who claims to have supernatural powers, could have foreseen.

bolding is my own

To his followers, Li is a God-like figure who can levitate, walk through walls and see into the future. His ultra-conservative and controversial teachings include a rejection of modern science, art and medicine, and a denunciation of homosexuality, feminism and general worldliness.

The Epoch Times may have taken over Cheech & Chong as my top volume ads on Twitter.
