Ukraine-Russia War Take 2

Ukraine-Russia War Take 2

Here is what the preliminary take on the Ukraine thread disappearing is:

The site was hit with a massive spam attack where hundreds of spam threads were created. In the case where, for example, I see a single spam thread and delete it, that is called a soft delete, and mods can still see them but forum members cannot. Those deletion can be undone.

When a massive attack hits with hundreds of threads, an admin uses a different procedure where the hundreds of spam threads are merged and then hard deleted, where the threads are gone, and no note is left behind. As I have mentioned with my own experience of just soft deleting a large number of posts, sometimes a post or thread gets checked or merged accidentally and is deleted by mistake. Dealing with hundreds of spam threads takes a sledgehammer, not a scalpel.

It appears that our Ukraine thread may have gotten caught up in that recent net of spam threads. If so, it is likely gone for good. I cant say this for sure, and am awaiting comments from admins on this issue. Yes, this sucks. And hopefully there was some other software glitch that caused the disappearance, and we may recover it in the future.

But in the meantime, I have created this new Ukraine-Russia War thread to enable the conversation to continue. Obviously continuity with earlier discussions will be lost. There is no way around that. So as best as possible, let's pick up the conversation with recent events and go from there.

If you have any questions about this, please post them in the mod thread, not here. Let's keep this thread going with posts about the war, not the disappearance of the old thread.

Thanks.

Georgia Dream (the political party in power) was originally a pro western party, although they did things like increase trade with Russia. When the invasion began in 2022 they almost overnight switched to an extremely anti-western party.

Many citizens want to be part of EU but many in the government are doing everything to work against this.

Since this drastic shift there has been increased pressure on journalism, violently quelling protests, overall extremely repressive, controlling media, and there have many instances of judges giving prewritten verdicts even when there is evidence that someone is innocent.

The billionaire businessman in charge of the political party is rumored to have large amounts of money frozen in a Swiss bank. Legislation has been passed for him and others to be able to move their money to Georgia and be tax free, likely to prepare him and others for sanctions.

Despite massive protests showing that the people do not agree with parliament on this issue, their parliament has passed an extremely repressive bill in order to help Russia control Georgia more thoroughly. It is clear that the people who voted for this parliament do not agree with this bill, but the majority of parliament does not care and are passing this bill anyways. For the parliament members that fight against the bill, they have allegedly been kidnapped, threatened and beaten.

all of that may be true. but its proly not. and even if it is, that does not make them a puppet of Russia lol.

It's a pretty clear trajectory, and they are trying to stop it before they are a full on puppet.

Letting this bill pass would make it extremely easy for them to be even further controlled by Russia, to the extent that they are a puppet.

better to be controlled by the West. bc thats working out sooo well for Ukraine.

The west does not seek to control either, and has never controlled either.

Blame the oppressive authoritarian that is trying to deprive these people of freedom.

Russia has accidentally bombed Belgorod numerous times now.

thats why every western source except the kyiv times is reporting it was Ukrainian drones. Dont get me wrong they absolutely should be bombing belgorod but ****ing own it

UK MOD is a western source, in this case quoting a Russian source.

Meanwhile places like france24 are quoting the Belgorod governor and reporting what he said, not what happened.

I would be shocked to find that Ukraine has drones capable of damaging 30 houses at once. Russia regularly fires glide bombs which are often inaccurate, launched early to avoid air defense, and can cause explosions which damage 30 houses.

Interesting it does appear likely but it does not seem to be confirmed.

The targets were two buses tho something a drone can hit. but it would be quite the coincidence if they were not the same attack.

Edit

i did a bit more research they might have been two different attacks. They were reported 24-48 hours apart. Or it could be what your going to say and russia twisting the story a day later. quite likely

The bus attack was reported on may 6(yesterday) The attack your talking about was reported over 3 days ago.

Once again could be the same attack being twisted. personally I hope it was a Ukraine attack they need to start doing something

Ukraine was bragging about hitting the busses. There was also nonsense about them killing 60 people and the targets being Iranian trainers which is extremely unlikely.

Ukraine does attack inside Russia, they focus on oil refineries and production for the most part. They are only allowed to attack with their own weapons though, not weapons given to them from the west.

You sure about the bold?

Yeah I'm sure about the bold.

A lot of the west disagrees with the policy, but so far that is the policy. They tried to retract this statement but were not able to.

Hopefully the policy changes, but so far it has not.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine defend our positions in the Kharkiv region

During this day, the enemy carried out airstrikes in the direction of Vovchansk using guided aerial bombs (FAB).

With the beginning of the night, the Russian occupiers increased the fire pressure on the front edge of our defense with the support of artillery.

At approximately 5 am, there was an attempt by the enemy to break through our defense line under the cover of armored vehicles.

As of now, these attacks have been repulsed, battles of varying intensity continue.

To strengthen the defense on this part of the front, reserve units have been sent. The Armed Forces of Ukraine continue to hold back the enemy's offensive.

Thank you to every soldier, sergeant and officer who displayed the necessary fortitude and bravery to defend our positions.

That village is in Kharkiv, bordering Russia. If Ukraine is sending reserves then it's likely a pretty significant threat, and could be the start of a major Kharkiv offensive. Really difficult to tell.

some Ukrainians were encircled not sure how many. This might be a big offensive. How well defended is he kharkiv region? pray

David Cameron didn't quite say what has been claimed, but obviously the UK (and French) Storm Shadow air-launched cruise missile is long-range, and has already been used against targets in Russian-occupied Crimea including the Russian Black Sea Fleet. Russian threats to retaliate against British military bases in Ukraine are a bit odd, as we don't have any. The Russians have previously, and weirdly, threatened to detonate some imaginary nuclear weapon in the English Channel that would supposedly flood the whole of Great Britain. All dictators, like Putin, tend to exhibit the mentality of a toddler, throwing idiotic tantrums when defied.

President Macron has actually suggested putting NATO boots on the ground in Ukraine, which is rather more radical than anything Cameron said, but the Russians have a weird fixation on GB and aren't particularly bothered about France.

I would love to see those two things happen, but so far it's all bluster.

Movin: looks like Ukraine did strike Belgorod this time.

Supposedly Russian air defense hit a missile which then hit the building

Aftermath:

Ukrainian twitter is going full on controlled demolition on this one

Follow legit posters instead of the worst of NAFO.

They are not a reliable source. I posted this tweet because it was the first video of the explosion which I could find that was not on telegram.

Watched Benjamin Hall the reporter that survived the bombing in Ukraine do Fox Sunday today. Never realized he lost both legs in that incident .
