This DEI thing is gonna get someone killed. The female head of secret service has failed miserably. Also, you can't have a 5'2" female or male protecting a 6'5" Trump. What are we doing here?

They have a goal of having 30% females in the secret service. Why? How about hire the best people. How about hire people capable of doing the job?

so why does the US military give 18 year olds rifles, handguns, artillery, nuclear bombs, etc. and send them off to kill people if they are not mature enough?

Do you believe a big strapping man in the path of a bullet would protect the target?

Why are you guy's turning this into a gun debate? It's completely beside the point of this thread.

Anyway, PJW has been making great videos on the shooting:

Fwiw, if you were making a SNL skit about a school shooter the makeup artist couldn't do better than Crooks. Also hilarious the kid was in a Blackrock commercial.

They are under more supervision. They are in designated areas. They don't give them those weapons to go home with and do what they want with them during the day, evening or weekend.

Honest to blog, I'm not asking you a gotcha question when I ask if you agree that 20 year olds should own guns or not, you don't have to be this evasive.

Lol what. I didn't think it was a gotcha or being evasive. I said we probably agree on this and added more color. I guess I'm not sure on your position now to understand if we agree or not.

Mine is that I don't have some hard line definitive age answer, but 20 is probably too young, and overall America could use some more restrictive gun reform.

Yes very likely. They have at least kevlar vests on. Ideally they should have ceramic plates too. Unless it's an Oswald magic bullet, it's not going through a vest, a big strapping man, another side of the vest, and then impacting someone else with enough force to kill them.

A bigger person protecting gives a greater chance of protection.

This makes it much more clear; you're not sure if you agree with me or not.

Everyone says I'm MAGA rah rah, Trump fan boy, etc. They are wrong.

General GOP positions I don't care for:

Religion is lol.

Even though I was in the infantry for 12 years, I'm not a big gun advocate. I don't own any guns or have a gun license. Heartbroken at all the shootings that happen. Some reform would be nice there.

Abortion - women should be able to choose. I actually don't think Trump personally cares much for this issue, but of cours

So, it's just culture war stuff?

If that's the case, normally I would get it. But trump changes the equation. What he'll do is far worse that any woke stuff you have to deal with.

If she had instead been a not even 5'5" male, the conversation would just be about how he appears incompetent and too short. But because she's a woman, the comments are saying she's incompetent and too short because of her sex. Do you not see a problem with that?

What specifically?

A bigger person protecting gives a greater chance of protection.

So then we should just go with Andre the Giant (rip)? Or are there other things that are important for protection?

Did you see any 5'5" males surrounding Trump? I'm guessing all were 6'0 and above.

by Rococo P

Sure, but blocking a bullet with your body seems like only a tiny part of Secret Service work. Otherwise, the ideal agent would look like Andre the Giant.

To be fair the 5 secret service agents closest to Trump on stage were large males. The females came from further away.

by Trolly McTrollson P

That extra 60 lbs of human flesh is essential when it comes to stopping a round from an AR-15.

Why did you leave out the 6 inches of height?

That extra flesh covers more real estate that bullets can hit.

by coordi P

The woman getting lambasted looked pretty large, so this seems like a straw man

I dunno how big you are, but she is small and short. 140lbs tops.

I am 5'11 192 lb gym rat and I still think I am probably too small and on the short side to be a meat shield for Trump.

Yes. The balance between size and agility matters.

by Didace P

Better than a petite female.

Why are you guys saying its gotta be Andre the Giant.

I think being a ~200lb human almost 6 feet should probably be the cutoff.

by d2_e4 P

Good post Donk. Only comment is lol @ the country where you can own a gun before you can drink and smoke.

Well we all know for a fact that guns don't kill people. Drinking and smoking kills people. Gotta regulate the lethal stuff.

I think we can all agree that between men and women, women would be more likely to empathize with you when you're in a real bad spot, but don't want to leave your prized footwear behind.

Women should not be secret service agents due to strength and psychological makeup. A woman is much more likely to choke under pressure of fire and not sacrifice her body for the President.

by agamblerthen P

Unless some new findings come to light, we may never fully understand the shooter's mindset and motives. But details that have emerged of him being a loner who was sometimes bullied in high school may be more revealing than whatever his political beliefs were.

As Michelle Goldberg wrote in an opinion column in the New York Times, "the more we learn about the shooter, the less it makes sense to analyze his actions in conventional ideological

great post

Other skills as well, not including asking where to go in critical situations or ducking behind president. But all other skills being equal, the bigger person should be the preferred candidate for this particular task.

by DonkJr P

You are making two different points.

(1)

There is a strong implication that guns should have been kept out of the hands of the shooter, as it should have been known that he was a danger. With what we know at the moment, the only indicators that he was a danger were that he was a loner at school and bullied for the way the he was dressed. Until we have some kind of Minority Report technology (which there has been some, with quite troubling

As someone that thinks rifles and guns are really stupid American culture, this was a good post.

wat. lol.

there is no "smoking age". you need to be 21 to purchase tobacco products.

by Slighted P

wat. lol.

There's a reason only men fought in battle for all of human history (with rare exceptions).
