SIDES - Inaugural Game Thread

SIDES - Inaugural Game Thread

In this thread, we will play a new word game called Sides. It's somewhat similar to codenames, but cooperative and different.

Sign up with /in below if you want to play.

In this game, a target word will be randed as will a row of 7 cards that have letters on them (most 1 letter, some 2/3/4 letters).

2 people will be the guessers and everyone else will be able to give a clue.

The clue given must start with the letter on either the first or last card (the 'sides' of the row).

We discuss as a team who will give the clue with open discussion in the thread such as "I have a 7 letter word starting with a C"

Once there is some agreement on who gives the clue, that person will bold the clue they want to give in the thread.

The two guessers will then discuss in the thread and bold their guess. If it's correct, we move on to the next guessers and the next word. If wrong, then the clue givers post some info like "you are warm" or "you are about 30% there" etc to give directional info on how on track/off track their guess is.

Then they discuss and give another clue. But the person who bolded a clue cannot give another clue for the same word until everyone on the cluing side has clued a word (if we take that long to get the word), so one person can't hog the cluing.

Clues have to be one word, or an acronym, etc like in codenames; they can be hyphenated words

We can also give some info on how the clues relate to each other, or even say a clue is a 0 clue, so the opposite of what cluing for (e.g., clue 'colorful' as an opposite clue because the word is zebra)

I'll provide more details and examples in the thread in the morning, but this should be enough info for you to /in and join so we can play.

I'm kinda annoyed at myself for not thinking of referee sooner. Good clues.

yeah this was always a 2 clue target since we didn't have u for umpire

original was game moderator or mediator, but wanted a sport instead of generic 'game' but the problem is that opens up a bunch of the sport-specific words and figuring out that m8 or m9 is mediator or moderator isn't obvious at all

I think ya'll did fine getting it in 2

Round 17:

Cards used: 22
Guessers: d1/nich

The Board:

RG | C | B | T

The target word:
Someone rand a word and send it to ibedrummin, bolt2112, amazingervin and doctor zeus

Sheet link: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1...

NOTE: THESE ARE THE FINAL LETTERS IN THE GAME

I'd do the rand but I'm banned. :(

banned from what?

oh yeah, I banned you for the easy word rand last time

I believe in second chances if you wanna rand it

There's a T on the outside. There's an 80% chance I would rand "Japan".

Target sent and incredibly boring

Next person in just bold t4 and then Nich can ban me too

I was gunna do t6 lol

I was thinking Rules or my r6/r8 was reviewer but fine outcome

My first thought was t3? I'm sure I'll think of these others since this seems easy

T6 works for me.

tavern

bar?

t3=tap
t4=?

I guess? Although tap seems kinda terrible in isolation and I don't know what this super obvious t4 is supposed to be.

T4 is tend maybe? Though wouldn't your first thought be tender if you were going down that line?

Tend pretty good

Bartend vs bartender but tender makes you think of money while tend is more ambiguous so may get you to bar

It’s gotta hit tavern hard since they all knew tavern so that’s main reason I like bar the most

Kinda like we all knew duffel so it was prolly a bag and yall all knew overalls so had to do with overalls somehow directly rather than just farm word where outhouse or something would be thought of before overalls

Also was easy word and bar is the kind of word you Rand and say “easy one shot” even before looking at letters

You don't use the word "pub" in the States at all do you? Only other word I could make a case for.

We do but that’s usually for an English pub or Irish pub as in a bar themed as a pub, not the standard name for a bar here

If it were pub they woulda done work to try to differentiate for us

Well imo it hits pub harder than bar. Isn't tavern an English word in itself?

But agree it's more likely to be bar when the cluer is American. I'm fine with bolding it if you are.

It's also possible the others thought that tender was the t6 clue lol.

bar

Pub is more closer to tavern in a vacuum but this is far more likely to be bar for a bunch of mostly Americans

Yeah

I should’ve just bolded Twix
