SIDES - Inaugural Game Thread

SIDES - Inaugural Game Thread

In this thread, we will play a new word game called Sides. It's somewhat similar to codenames, but cooperative and different.

Sign up with /in below if you want to play.

In this game, a target word will be randed as will a row of 7 cards that have letters on them (most 1 letter, some 2/3/4 letters).

2 people will be the guessers and everyone else will be able to give a clue.

The clue given must start with the letter on either the first or last card (the 'sides' of the row).

We discuss as a team who will give the clue with open discussion in the thread such as "I have a 7 letter word starting with a C"

Once there is some agreement on who gives the clue, that person will bold the clue they want to give in the thread.

The two guessers will then discuss in the thread and bold their guess. If it's correct, we move on to the next guessers and the next word. If wrong, then the clue givers post some info like "you are warm" or "you are about 30% there" etc to give directional info on how on track/off track their guess is.

Then they discuss and give another clue. But the person who bolded a clue cannot give another clue for the same word until everyone on the cluing side has clued a word (if we take that long to get the word), so one person can't hog the cluing.

Clues have to be one word, or an acronym, etc like in codenames; they can be hyphenated words

We can also give some info on how the clues relate to each other, or even say a clue is a 0 clue, so the opposite of what cluing for (e.g., clue 'colorful' as an opposite clue because the word is zebra)

I'll provide more details and examples in the thread in the morning, but this should be enough info for you to /in and join so we can play.

I'm not fully sure what's going on either but...don't have any super great word to contribute

There's also an L7 that would definitely get there if combined with the obvious t5. There's probably no 1-ball equity tho unless they can deduce the words.

Let's just go with the d5. If they don't get it in 1, then they should get it in 2.

dohyo

Ok this was the word and this could shadowfax but let's see

I'm thinking we should probably guess "unicorn" because that was the answer the last time a shadowfax clue was given.

Dohyo sounds like the name of a K-Pop band. Hopefully my partner knows what the heck that word means.

Lol i have no idea

Sounds like dojo

All ive got

I'd go japan or east asia? I have no idea

Japan

great guess. but incorrect. 95%?

p7 would get it. but that's skipping a card

not even close to 95%

dunno what p7 is but d1 has a t word so hopefully that gets it, and if not it'll unblock p for you

I think p7 has at least 65% chance to get it done

tubby

A tubby japanese person is a sumo

Sumo Wrestler

Amazing clue d1

Good get guys

What a great ****ing clue

nice one! great clue! good guess!

my clue was "pushing" 😊

Glad that worked.

Good job.

Wooo! Great clue and guess!

Ok can we get a show of hands now for who has heard of a dohyo before lol

I can’t overstate how great that was. Goddamn I’m bad at this game

Haha, therein lies the problem of research being allowed for cluers imo. Wikipedia indicated that “tsuna” would be a great clue because it’s the belt Yokozuna wear! Slam dunk!

To be fair they figured out it was dojo but not quite dojo and that it was Japanese

With some thought they coulda eliminated martial arts and sensei etc since not dojo and gotten to sumo some % of the time as Japanese fighting that isn’t martial arts

While dojo as a clue doesn’t mean Japan so could put them down wrong path of martial arts

Of course tubby dojo is also sumo but I didn’t know d1 had the goat clue up his sleeve…I thought he was gonna do towel or something and didn’t want martial arts dojo clue first without the Japan connection and didn’t wanna waste t on Tokyo to get Japan

So I maintain it was the best line to take even tho odds of them knowing it was a sumo ring were low as odds they knew it was Japanese and similar to dojo were quite high

I would never agree to clue tsuna bc no way they know what that is or even what it’s similar to

If dohyo wasn’t so close to dojo then I wouldn’t have wanted that either

We tend to do pretty well at understanding the guessers may not know the best terms that we may research
