The NHL Thread

For the 5 of us who post NHL stuff, here you go. Officially the season starts Tuesday October 11, although there were two games that counted played in the Czech Republic last week (Predators are 2-0-0, lolSharks 0-0-2). So here we go....

DEFENDING CHAMPS:

Colorado Avalanche

This stat greatly aided their Stanley Cup victory and I'm sure all of the penalties called on their opponents were legit and not due to diving:

The Colorado Avalanche had the most power plays per game by a team in 2021-22, with 3.40 opportunities.*Source: Statmuse.com

Looks like Leafs plan is to sign injured prone or actually injured players! JFC! We are now over the cap, What are they doing?

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced today that the hockey club has signed defenceman Jani Hakanpää to a one-year contract. The value of the contract is $1.470 million.

After a talk with Berube, Nick Robertson has had a change of heart and signed today a 1 year 875k contract to stay with the Leafs.

Hold the boat, rumblings are they might just trade him.

Season getting closer, lets hockeyyy! Well fantasy first of course 😀

Long-running 2+2 league is still at it. One owner just dropped out of the keeper-league, so looking for a new one. Twelve teams, 8 keepers, hundred bucks. Chase ran it with honor for years, then one guy took over and now A5 been continuing the great work, so league is a very well run operation Im happy to say. As often is, the team offered is not the best, probably something like Helle/Crosby/Eichel/Aho/Dahlin/Thompson/Nuge/? No changes in draft picks and I think first round they pick second (snake draft). If anyone interested then can give link to discord channel for more info, or can just ask here of course.

Good luck for all your teams in the real world, maybe this is the year! Man im still happy that Barkov won, woulda been so brutal to lose from 3-0 yikes.

Spot filled

I did it!

Put my suggestion in for bring back pyro and using HHH theme song from wwe motorhead for goal song. LOL

The Jets game is streaming on flames.nhl.com

Sydney Crosby inks another 2 year deal at 8.7 million same price as previous years

i guess he straight up doesn't care, but feels like he's thrown away tens of millions in earnings over his career by not demanding his worth. let alone leaving pittsburgh to maximize endorsement money etc. $8.7m seems absurdly low, he's still a really good player

or maybe he's getting some ownership shares, who knows

yeah i can see him having a handshake agreement for an ownership stake at a severely reduced cost upon retirement

but also, at this point in his career, he's gotta be financially secure for life and must be thinking more about his legacy 5 years from now rather than "if i join the Rangers I can probably start getting Campbell's Soup commercials"

Going to my first Stadium series game this season. Got tickets for the Red Wings at the Blue Jackets in March.

oh dope, that'll be really awesome

mind saying how much tix are? i just checked and they aren't even posted, it's a "fill out this form to show your interest" sounds $$$$

Cheapest seats were $98. I got a presale code somehow in my email and figured I'd get tickets just for the experience.

dope that's like a normal ticket price actually, insanely good deal, worst case scenario you can make a decent profit on secondary market the week of but i wouldn't that's a really special thing from everything i've heard about it and you should definitely go

i can't find it, but there's a really good cut out there of corey perry doing the walk of shame to the curb your enthusiam music

That's my thought. I have no intention of selling, but I have the option if desired.

I ended up paying about $240 (including fees) to get a slightly better view than the cheapest seats. Might not make much of a difference but we'll see. I've not yet been to an Ohio State football game, so I'm looking forward to being in that stadium for a game of some kind (I went to a concert there and it was insanely packed).

William Nylander to start at centre during training camp! 😀
