SE Hoya Containment Thread (aka Politics)

SE Hoya Containment Thread (aka Politics)

Welcome to the Official SE Politics Thread. The aim here is for high quality political discussion and debate. The concomitant aim here is for that high quality discussion and debate to NOT devolve into MAD posting, BAD posting, trolling, name-calling our community fracture.

We embark on this project hoping to encourage fair and thorough exchanges of views, and also fair and thorough advocacy for positions. We should learn a lot.

Rules

1. Posters are required to have 50 posts in SE over the last 365 days. This thread is not a proxy for the Politics forum, or an arena for goal-based issue advocacy from people we don't even know.

2. Pure devil's advocacy will not be tolerated unless it is identified by that poster as the aim of the particular post. There will be no run of the mill nitpickery for the sake of nitpickery.

3. This will be enforced loosely, but you are obligated to outline your basic position on whatever issue you're debating. We will not have loaded, gotcha-style internet-standard race to the bottom terrible posting in this thread. That does not mean you have to state every closely-held belief in every debate. You just can't hide the ball. "I'm not sure what my position is" is a completely valid position to hold.

4. Insults are out. You will not resort to that in this thread, because that will ruin this thread.

5. If you demonstrate an ongoing commitment to lowering the quality of discourse through incessant trolling or simply being really terrible, you'll be removed from this thread.

6. These are subject to significant revision as this thread develops.

There is a tradition in SE of better, fuller, funnier discussion of a really wide range of topics. Let's continue that here.

Any thoughts on the Yemen situation?

Maybe instead of bombing them, the US should get Israel to stop with Gaza.

so reward them for attacking our ships? nah.

"no way to stop them!" says only guy arming them

I did agree with bombing them at a time.

Now the problem can be solved with diplomacy though. This would cost everyone involved less money! Those US ships intercepting those missiles are doing the correct thing no argument there. Those intercepts cost a **** ton though.

And why escalate with Iran? Does the US want to bomb Iran? Seems a little much.

The Israel/Gaza thing doesn't need to go on any longer so if that solves it then isn't that the best solution?

I don’t think the US is willing to escalate with the Middle East cuz the fiasco it evolves into would be most bad indeed. Saber rattling with iran has existed for 50 years now

If I’m going to pick one thing biden has done that is truly alarming it’s gonna be denouncing and refusing to recognizing Taiwan’s election. That seems….bad

Saber Rattling with Iran has existed for 50 years, but the One China policy has only existed for 45, so it's got a few more before it's normal I guess.

We absolutely recognize Taiwan, in every way we always have, and we also completely refuse to recognize Taiwan, in every way we always have, because global politics is stupid as all hell.

In case you would ever need proof, the top two trading partners with Taiwan are...China and the US. It's all theater.

lol

global politics is stupid as all hell [...] It's all theater.

so is domestic politics, br0

yeah regarding taiwan, there's this streamer guy i watch on unrelated topics, but since he's american living in taiwan someone asked him about whatever the current hullabaloo in yank news was (this was a few months ago), and he was like real talk nothing has really changed since the 70s, and i don't really expect anything to change. it's all dumb political theater

I dunno what's gonna happen with Taiwan.

If one day we learn the ships are landing on Taiwan then is the USA really going to enter into WW3?

Is China willing to risk that? Cause I'm sure they know they'd lose in an all out war against the States.

We haven't won a war since ww2

chilltown, i can sleep easy at night knowing you're on the case

thank you for your service

Np I'm sure all the world leaders read my posts too so I am out here making global policy!

by Chilltown P

Well, ideally, we'd know those ships are on their way and move carriers to discourage that.

No one wins WW3, thats why it tends not to happen.

yeah in all seriousness

if china and the usa went to war, the entire global economy would grind to a halt

widespread famine

shortage of goods - basically no medicine or computer chips for anyone

very few countries are self sufficient - if the global marketplace shuts down as it would, it'd be a global catastrophe

If the mcdonald's supply chain is shattered, can anything else survive this Fataclysm?

So going back to the first point.

What if this happen and China sails on.

If China goes all in saying "we're taking Taiwan and if you want to start WW3 then fire the first shot at us".

I kind of feel like the US backs off and maybe goes "oh well regime change time in Iran then".

This **** could happen. Russia threatened Ukraine for years and it ended up happening. It's all China ever talks about.

Earlier this week, when asked by Fox News host Brian Kilmeade if the Republican Party was racist, Ms Haley responded with a broader point: "We're not a racist country, Brian. We've never been a racist country," she said.

Lol Nikki Haley, nice quote.

Trump is a loser as is everyone associated with him. This is DeSantis' party and we need to focus everything on him. He's amazing.

Immediate Trump endorsement even though he’d cruise to re-election regardless.

Update = coward.

It's incredible that Trump can insult all these people so harshly, including their significant others, and they still kneel and kiss the ring every time

abusing how these freaks are all the most pathetic losers ever is one of the only good things about that guy
