Detroit Lions: We're Going to Bite a Kneecap Off

Detroit Lions: We're Going to Bite a Kneecap Off

Larry Foote will be a Detroit Lion, ~100% chance of that.

Theres also talk between DET/KC that would involve Glen Dorsey coming here for our 2nd rd pick. Not sure I understand why Pioli wants to get rid of him but I'd gladly ship out our 2nd for him.

You add Dorsey/Foote and it makes our draft look that much better. Shaun Rogers also said he wants to come back to Detroit once he gets released from the Browns, which looks likely.

Biggest question going into the season is will Matt Stafford be the starter from weak 1.

I saw the refball curse discussed on reddit - someone posted that it's not so much that there's a long, long list of refs screwing the Lions over in crucial moments; it's that it almost never us on the other side of the coin, getting the benefit of a phantom call, egregious no-call directly leading to a win. I think every team has examples of refs screwing them over, but everyone else seems to get some good and bad. Just bad over here.

While bad calls affect a lot of close games, and the Lions have had their fair share of those as well, but it's the way the refs dig deep into the rulebook to find unique ways to ensure a Lions loss. Picking up a PI flag after a lengthy discussion basically never happens, but the refs found a way to do it. There's a rule named after Calvin Johnson. And the ref mistaking who declared as eligible when the Lions rolled out the jumbo package? I'm not sure it's ever happened before.

The NFL's response to this is particularly embarrassing. The video they made clarifying how to report appears to completely ignore what actually happened on the field. I have no idea how common it is to send all the tackles towards the ref in an attempt to deceive who is actually declaring, and if the NFL had kept it at that, whatever. Also, apparently Dan had a meeting with the officials prior to the game and covered that this spot might come up, but Brad Allen wasn't actually in that meeting and appeared to be the only one who actually handled the reporting on that play. So maybe that's a loophole the NFL should look into.

Unfortunately you don't really have the roster spots to sit all starters and the game was still potentially meaningful. The LaPorta injury definitely sucks. On paper it's the same injury Kelce had happen in practice and just kept him out of the Lions game but he was back for week 2. I'm sure we'll all be watching the injury report closely this week for any hopeful signs. But this team has enough weapons on offense that it will take more than one injury to slow them down.

Not gonna lie boys - this article hits home

Lots of nostalgia in that piece for sure. The media loves all the narratives about history and this team but the truth is that this is an entirely new org from the top down. New owner, new GM, new coach, new QB, and almost 100% new roster since 2021. This is much more like an expansion team that's hitting its stride. Obviously the fans are holding on to the last 30+ years and the ringer article captures that well, but god damn do I want to punch any talking head that acts like anything that happened prior to 2021 is at all relevant to this current team.

Anyone who tries to say the refs bailed out the lions can suck every inch of my rock hard erection. That is all.

The refs stole 7 points from us in the first half ¯\_(ツ😉_/¯

Great game. We just executed when we had to on D in the red zone and got a few first downs when we needed them

Go bucs. Go pack go next week.

It is happening

Anyone else gonna be there on Sunday?

I think I could fly to and attend the other 3 divisional games cheaper than I could get into the lions game.

If the lions win today they are in the NFCCG. I'm the first person who could ever say that on the 2+2 forums. That is all.

What a ****ing atmosphere. My ears are still vibrating. We’re two wins away from actually ****ing doing this…

Had zero hope back in 91 with Kramer vs Washington juggernaut. This one is different. Goff is way better than Kramer and SF is very beatable. This should be a 4th quarter game.

Is it Sunday yet?

Not Sunday yet, soon.

I don't think there is any question this 2023 team has more talent than the 1991 team.

Who from 91 would start for this team?
Barry, Lomas, Moore, Spielman, Crockett?

I'm probably missing somebody but regardless of what happens in SF this is a much better Lions team.

Preparation and confidence is what I'm hoping will pull us through on Sunday.

I want to see this guy. He played for Alabama in 2021, not sure where he plays now

79-1572-15

2022 draft. Somebody traded up for him, probably b/c at one point he was considered the best WR in college and we have turned him into this

24-354-2

He has to share a receiver room with this guy:
119-1515-10

And compete for targets with this guy:
86-889-10

Jamo has been fine imo. Is he the guy you hoped for when you traded up? Maybe not. He had some drops, and maybe his route running isn't perfect, but for the back half of the season he's done what's been asked of him.

In college, even bama, having elite speed is enough. But that's not going to make you elite in the NFL. He doesn't pair particularly well with Goff's strengths either. It's hard to see him ever putting up Tyreek Hill numbers here. But he is an important part of the offense, even if it's just clearing out defenders to open up the underneath stuff.

He's been showing out more the back half, no doubt. It still remains to be seen if he can become an elite, or even very good, NFL receiver. If he puts in the work I could see him being at least the #3 guy, which would be a nice luxury to have.

he's currently option #3b/4a with Monty... I get the draft capital used but he's doing well in such a loaded system. craziest thing is all these guys still have major upside (ARSB, Jamo, Gibbs, Mont, Port). rarely do these things work out like that, but... wow... lol

The dogs on this roster...the list goes deep.

I think he'd already be a very good WR2 on a lot of teams, and probably a 1 on some. He's just competing with an All-Pro WR and an elite TE for targets, while often running deep routes that Goff isn't too comfortable throwing but have to be respected by the defense. He's also a dog blocking in the run game.

But Goff is always going to throw to St. Brown or LaPorta first, and those two almost always get open. Goff is really good at making the plays that are right in front of him, probably one of the best in the NFL at it IMO. His ability to make quick reads and deliver an accurate ball in the mid-range passing game is pretty much unmatched these days.

As for Sunday, something tells me this will come down to how well they stop CMC. The Lions haven't faced a back of his caliber yet this year, which is sort of obvious because there really is no back of his caliber. I worry that when you spread this defense thin and make them cover a lot of difference concepts, they can be exposed. Sort of like the Ravens game. The D line is going to need have to ball out.

Losing Moseley game one sucked - no idea if he was gonna be an impact player or not but I was looking forward to watching. Sutton has certainly been a huge disappointment. Hard to blame a retread like Vildor but the Lions have two of the worst starting corners in the league.

It's just a shame we never got to see Holmes' plan A for this defense

Sutton was doing so well early on but he's definitely been a disappointment in the back half. I think he is still a legit starting CB but I expect Brad to make a move there in free agency and also the draft should the pick line up with the player.

By all accounts Witherspoon was the target at 6. It's hard to say if this team would have been better with an elite CB but a likely downgrade at RB and TE, as we got Gibbs and LaPorta from that trade.
