again, western guilt virtue signaling
logistics man, logistics
why don't you start the process and open up your home to allow migrants to live in your house
Ah, that makes sense. Unfortunately, that does seem about as American as it gets.
2018 when the number of illegal immigrants was lower so I guess now under Biden the cartels have suspended all rapes
Reality that means more women raped and if you say the border is open the cartel will still be charging every person and raping the women
Eliminate the cartel problem solved
I dunno about an open border policy but its always funny when people fearmonger about illegal immigrants. Illegal immigrants children get higher paying jobs than your average white person and graduate from college at a higher rate than your average white person. By 3rd generation they typically don't even speak their grandparents native language.
Oh no, all these illegal immigrants having educated children that assimilate into US society, whatever will we do!
I can't stress enough that people do some serious research into these topics.
are you strawmanning in some kind of completely open borders/no immigration process policy that no one here outside of maybe victor has been advocating for? what logistics are you exactly concerned about?
hire more legal to process asylum and immigration claims, and to vet people in a more timely manner, create and provide paths to citizenship for those that enter, strengthen social safety nets and anti-discrimination enforcement, create tax subsidies for hiring and housing newly entered immigrants. the theory of the logistics isn't hard.
if you're trying to argue that congress won't do those things then i agree. but that has nothing to do with how easy or difficult it would be to implement, we're just back to the xenophobia.
I would assume that your personal rationale for open borders would extend past the stance that America has ****ed up a lot of other places and it should be in our humility to let them all have a new life here...and that's it.
Immigration has a lot of operating forces like trying to calculate potential skilled work for consistently evolving sectors and the level of consumption of govt provided services and how to acquire the taxes needed to fund that while also acknowledging the use of AI and how that will affect demand for work.
Certain economies can have demand for more low skilled immigration, to tame wages and to start new businesses, but could possibly lead to more inequality, high skilled labor can lower the wage gap but cause certain businesses that tend to pay a higher % of taxes on avg towards govt programs to struggle. None of this seems like an on/off swithc to me.
I would assume that the open borders crowd would concede that there would be degrees to which immigration would have to be at least managed in order to ensure a healthy economy for its people and that having open borders for a specfic time is completely different than having open borders with no oversight?
Hey let’s give Democrats credit they finally have given universal healthcare no charge to illegal immigrants
oh wow you ignored all of that, used some new cool lingo you found to boot
good for you, you deserve a pat on the back, you're a good boy
now who wants a belly rub?
The entertainment provided by washoe and Vanilla Ice yesterday made me forget to reply to these; wouldn't want to appear to be ducking:
The politics around things like forcing businesses to close or requiring vaccinations, I can understand. But there were many people for whom their political tribe always came first, and that's what I've found sad. Advice to keep distance, not attend large gatherings, wear masks, get vaccinations, all so often met with derision based on little more than kneejerk response.
That you think so many of these things are as cut-and-dry as you suggest, and that there are many more who think the same way, might have a little something to do with those death rates.
The US might be the country with the strongest individualist mindset, for both better and worse. In the case of Coivd death rates, I think that was for the worst, but it's a tradeoff many might be fine with. And to be clear, we make tradeoffs of health vs money all the time. There are lots of things government could do to save more people at the cost of more money and/or freedom. I think the higher US death rate from Covid is an example of one of those trade-offs, and I don't think I have enough information to say for certain that it was worth it. My personal feelings are that I prefer the trade-off we made here in Canada, but that's just my view based on the incomplete data I have available to me.
man you are really bad at all of this. the posts aren't good. the replies are terrible. you can't seem to make a point. the attempts at dunks and drivebyes aren't even good.
that's a good boy, you like that belly rub don't you?
Yeah, you've become one of the more embarrassing posters here.
That’s not his belly
This is veering into territory of insults instead of content. And the thread was looking good for a while. Please reel it back in.
Is there proof to back this up or is this one of those "we haven't actually looked into this, but BLM is telling us cops are racist and we should just blindly believe them"?
do you think BLM has a newsletter or something? does soros sponsor it?
I can't quickly find the post, but someone said something to the extent of "Yall should have let Trump win in 2020 and then everyone would be done with him" and its stuck out in my mind the last day or two.
I'm not saying I agree, I don't. I think he can do incredible amounts of harm in 4 more years. But it has made me think quite a bit and I just wanted to acknowledge that.
That was me 😀
I think I added we wouldn’t have Biden either running .
“Donald Trump wants to be the presumptive Republican nominee and we’re talking about $83 million in damages,” the Republican presidential candidate wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. “We’re not talking about fixing the border. We’re not talking about tackling inflation. America can do better than Donald Trump and Joe Biden.”
Meh. Ok Nikki you hit him i guess, but you have to hit harder than that
Can we stop saying formally known as Twitter. We all know it’s changed. Thanks media
Like him or hate him, the US needs to get behind Trump or else the nation is done plain and simple. Michelle Obama winning will solidify the agenda of forever DNC and slide towards the global communist agenda.
Are you under the impression that Michelle Obama is running for president?
If the election is Trump v. Biden, does anyone think that more than seven states (Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Nevada, Arizona, North Carolina, and Georgia) are truly in play?
I guess someone could make a case for spending time in Virginia, Minnesota, Florida, or NH, but I don't see it. Virginia might be in play for an establishment Republican, but not for Trump. Florida already is red and seems to be getting redder. The opposite is true for NH. Biden seems about the right speed for Minnesota.
Iowa, Ohio, and Colorado have been swing states in the past, but not any more.
If you focus on the swing states, I think it is easier to make the case that Trump is the wrong candidate for the Republicans than it is to make the case that Biden is the wrong candidate for the Democrats. No matter how you slice the map, if the Democrat or the Republican sweeps the swing states in the midwest, the election is over. I don't know for sure, but my gut tells me that a less volatile Republican would do better in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania than Trump will. Newsome is probably the most realistic alternative to Biden on the Democratic side. I suspect that Newsome would get more votes overall than Biden, but I'm not convinced that he would do better in Wisconsin, Michigan, or Pennsylvania. (Newsome probably would do better than Biden in Arizona, Nevada, and maybe NC, but those swing states are less important.) I think the Republicans carry Georgia no matter who the candidates are, albeit by a small margin. Biden relied on a near perfect storm of events to win Georgia last time that isn't likely to occur again.
Bottom line -- I really think the Republicans would win this election if someone other than Trump were the nominee.
yeah. i've kind of always thought that anyone but Trump probably beats Biden. but Biden beats trump.
Haley would win all the swing states
