There have to be ways to bridge whatever social injustices exist in the world without elevating one race over the other. If you extrapolate 'explanations' like this over the course of hundreds of years we will end up in the same place, albeit the whites will be the ones carrying the scars of racism, which the explanation blatantly is.

Is the end goal absolute equality or revenge?

Race itself is the end goal. The last thing they want is a colorblind society.

If there is no evidence of shared white culture or history, does that mean I'm off the hook for reparations?

I grew up with mostly hair metal but loved run dmc, beastie boys and public enemy

When public enemy and Anthrax got together to remix Bring the Noise i loved it

When I originally read this post, I thought you said that grew up mostly with hair metal hair, which would have been amazing and which would have required pics or gtfo.

In a debate between two rational agents, your opponent would tip his hat and say, "you got me there, well played."

In today's world you will get two paragraphs of words that collectively make no sense and a summary judgment to pay what you owe.

Twenty years ago I would have laid the odds of a reparations movement coming to fruition at far, far less than 1%. Now? That number has to be AT LEAST 5%, if not higher.

d2_e4, you have to be careful with Bowser, you are already on thin ice.

Bowser can't be bargained with. He can't be reasoned with. He doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear! And he absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are banned here for life!

Bro.

I'm gonna need your clothes, your boots, and your motohcycle.

For me, it's not that I don't sometimes discovery new music to me at my age, but it was the same kind of music that I was listening to when I was between 10 and 25ish. To give some perspective, I was really excited about that Daft Punk album that came out like ten years ago. I listened to it all the way through and hated it, as it was not the Daft Punk house music that I loved from when I was younger, but a completely different type of mus

right. I knew what you meant, although I can now see why chillrob interpreted your posts differently. I think most people are like that; they have cultural touchstones that inform their views on new things. People are marinated in social symbols and cultural icons and constructions and it stas with them. I was learning in class about paul rand(not to be mistaken with rand paul) and how the average 5 year old knows what 100Â’s of brand logos and symbols and what they mean( corporate logos like the target bullseye, the mcds arch, etc) .
My dad listens to new music all the time but when he was young he listened to stuff like jackson browne, janis joplin, and mamas and papas , jimmy hendrix etc. so he listens to new bands but his taste of new music is informed by a kind of nostalgia for like a flower child folk rock vibe.

Say, that's a nice bike.

When you talk about end goals, there is no set in stone end goal. There are many different views on race and class issues and a hypothetical “end goal” is different for each person. There isn’t any consensus on what the future should be. I think you’re extrapolating way too much from some organizations that chose a stylistic tone, probably from some well intentioned people.
There are people who want absolute equality and there are people who want revenge, same as it’s always been.
I personally think there is too much emphasis on style guides and not enough emphasis on allowing people to find their own voice in the way they write.

Are you against reparations on principle or do you think it’s unworkable?

Guys.

Bowser, I mean, browser is taking numbers.

I wonder if he's ever seen that scene at the end of "Beetlejuice". whatver that number was, it was a long ass number, man.

tbh i had no idea it was browser because bowser is such a better name

browser2920 has peeping tom vibes
bowser2920 is a cool dude who butt chuggs vodka with the boys

If you had no idea it was browser it had nothing to do with bowser being a better name. It just means you have reading issues. 😉

by rickroll P

Yep. Only the first and last letters matter.

But bowser seems to care about a random "r".

Both, but more so on principle.

I suppose if one could isolate another's current day fortune as being the result of a compound effect of slave money than said person being "taxed" could make sense. All of us footing the bill, however, is completely ridiculous.

For one thing, and this may sound callous, but black Americans aren't the only group to have suffered from slavery. Every race has been subjected to slavery over the course of history and a reparations movement seems like one drawing a line in the sand and saying, "yeah, but this is the point where it really matters."

On top of that, what percentage of non-black Americans can even trace their lineage to America pre-emancipation? I know my people didn't arrive till after, save for a grandfather who was full blooded Native American.

by d2_e4 P

But bowser seems to care about a random "r".

LOL. I guess you couldn't pick up on the humor/sarcasm in my responses, to think I actually care about that?

I guess you think the first/last letter thing applies to names as well?

If your name was Bruce, do you think if someone wrote Bryce instead, that somehow their brains would read that as Bruce because the first and last letters are the same? People would read Jones as James?

Of course not. That was an interesting post, and a well known phenomenon, but not one that actually applies to names.

But it was all in fun. I guess after all the debate ass whippings Ive given you in our other discussions that you have to dig pretty deep now to even come up with something to attack me about. It's like you're trying to get through the Iron Dome system but you're down to using a pea shooter. 😉 😀
