The costs of trans visibility

The costs of trans visibility

Yesterday, Dylan Mulvaney broke her silence: https://www.tiktok.com/@dylanmulvaney/vi....

For context, this is a trans influencer who built a 10 million strong following on TikTok. She took a brand deal with budweiser to post an ad on an instagram, and the anti-trans right went absolutely ballistic, calling for a boycott, condemning the company, and to some perhaps unknowable degree it influenced that Budweiser sales dropped by a 1/4 and

. Dylan speaks more personally about the effect of the hatred on her.

What strikes me about this story is that it is just about visibility. This isn't inclusion in sports or gender-affirming care for minors, it was just that a trans person was visible. This wasn't even visibility in a TV commerical that a poor right-winger is forced to see, it was an ad on her own instagram page. We're all in our own social media algorithm influenced bubbles, but from my vantage point it really has seemed that in the last year or so things have just gotten worse for trans people and the backlash to even minor visibility is growing.

We need to do better.

But if it wasn't for the daily abuse she received for being trans she wouldn't be so aggressive.

So hmm... video came out for the day of the bathroom incident, Nex talking 2mins with (i guess?) police or school official.

Pretty incredible how it's now clear there was no assault , the 3 girls defended themselves against her aggression

Strange interpretation of the video. Either the students were all in isd (or isp) together and this was the last of a series of bullying events that the school officer was already aware of.

Nex admits to throwing water (on one of them, per mom) and then getting jumped by three. I don't think a prosecutor or judge will equate the physical assaults with the water, but even so, I don't see how the other two girls are blame free.

But clearly no assault, lol.

According to the police, Nex's death was not a result of trauma so more clarification is needed here.

nex was also suspended for 2 weeks

But clearly

We went from "3 older bully girls assaulted nex in the bathroom and beaten Nex to death" to "3 younger girls were giggling about Nex so she went physical first and a small kerfuffle then happened 3v2".

Remember the radical fanatic left was claiming a trans person was assassinated as the consequence of a bathroom bill.

Yeah, remember the radical right jumped to the conclusion her death was suicide too. I don't know where you got the "3 younger girls" bit but the video sounded to me as if all the girls involved were serving in school detentions from prior "altercations" between them.

I guess we will have to wait for more info to figure out what "clearly" happened.

I only thought about suicide as an option when preliminary autoptic results were about "no trauma", which happened very recently.

The YOUNGER comes from NEX on video saying the 3 were freshmen and she was sophomore (when she said no, she didn't know them)!! she said so on video

Interesting fact that this happened in a reservation school and that it's may be part of the millions of acres returned in the mcgirt v ok scotus decision. Also, I saw a transcript that said it was isp, not isd.

Amidst the investigation and community response, Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin Jr. offered his condolences and a broader perspective on the situation. Although Benedict was not of Cherokee heritage, they lived within the tribe’s jurisdiction.

“The death of Nex Benedict is a tragedy. As parents, the First Lady and I are heartbroken,” Hoskin wrote. “Nex was a child living within our reservation and deserved love, support and to be kept safe.” Hoskin also highlighted the importance of inclusivity and safety for all children, “All children… benefit from learning in environments in which we celebrate diversity and recognize the dignity of everyone’s experience.”

It is getting even more interesting.

Full length video released of Nex and her mother (togheter) talking to police (or school official?), and... the mother calls Nex with she/her pronouns.

Thoughts?

thanks. she was adopted by her grandmother imo, technically thats then her mother. the reporting of this case is a joke.
the school is a joke and the police too in this case. thats why there is so much confusion. https://www.advocate.com/news/nex-benedi...

Strange, from your link cops are stating death not due to trauma but a murder case may still be made?

the coroner of this state are known to botch things and are terrible.
same goes for the school and the police, especially in cases of bullying, trans issues, etc. nobody knows what happend now, at least nobody reporting is giving you anything. the police is trying to protect the school and the school is trying to protect itself. it could be a suicide od for all we know now. or a head trauna which is more likely imo, but they are beating around the bushes atm.

States here Nex felt "dizzy and nauseous and might have a concussion". Certainly seems like head trauma. Police need to shed more light on this.

All that means is they are still investigating.

They're still coming across as contrary. We'll have to wait for the full autopsy report, I reckon.

Most mothers aren't big on alternate pronouns.

You've taken a poll?

yikes

Even those who call the media claiming their "non binary" child has been Assassinated because of the righ

I can't delete from my mind the image of radical leftists reading the developments and feeling sad because it very probably wasn't a murder motivated by discrimination.

They look desperate, derelict at the news it wasn't necessarily a murder predicated on discrimination.

Don't they worry though, the search for a trans Floyd continues anabated

Seems to me the ones gleefully rushing to the thread to highlight how the case isn't a "trans Floyd" are on the other side.

more so the people who made a big deal of "trans student violently beaten to death in the bathroom for using 'the wrong bathroom' " were the ones who are now coincidentally quite silent on the issue now that the actual facts have come out

Are you sure you aren't making up a fake win? The original article posted in this thread hasn't been updated and even with the updates we've gotten doesn't overstate things I think, noting for example the death wasn't immediate and autopsy didn't say trauma etc: https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world...

I don't really get this whole frothy excitement at the idea that people who support trans kids not being bullied were too jumpy on the gun like this is some moral victory for ya'll even if it was true. It isn't.
