Edit: RULES FOR THIS THREAD

2+2 Rules

Posting guidelines for Politics and Soci...

These are our baselines. We're not reinventing the wheel here. If you aren't sure if something is acceptable to post, its better to ask first. If you think someone is posting something that violates the above guidelines, please report it or PM me rather than responding in kind.

To reiterate some of the points:

1. No personal attacks. This is a broad instruction, but, in general, we want to focus on attacking an argument rather than the poster making it. It is fine to say a post is antisemitic; it is not okay to call someone an antisemite over and over. If you believe someone is making antisemitic posts, report them or PM me. The same goes for calling people "baby killers" and "genocide lovers". You are allowed to argue that an action supports genocide or that the consequences of certain policies results in the death of children, but we are no longer going to be speaking to one another's intentions. It is not productive to the conversation and doesn't further any debate.

2. Racist posts and other bigoted statements that target a particular group or individuals of such groups with derogatory comments are not allowed. This should not need further explanation.

3. Graphic Images need to be in spoilers with a trigger warning.

4. Wishing Harm on other posters will result in an immediate timeout.

5. Genocidal statements such as "Kill 'em all" etc, are no longer permissible in the thread.

If anyone has any questions about the above, please PM me. I don't want a discussion about the rules to derail the content of this thread. If anything needs clarifying, I will do that in this thread.

Please be aware this thread is strictly moderated
it seems likely they have destroyed a lot more armor than you realize.

Even if this was true, there is still A LOT of daylight between reality and the propaganda numbers Hamas is making up. And no one wonders why they are making **** up. We get it.

Israel values the lives of its soldiers extremely highly, probably too highly to fight this kind of war effectively. And they are fairly transparent about casualties.

There is a reason Hamas supporters are the ones begging Israel to stop, and not Israeli supporters. If half of Hamas claims were true, it would be the other way around.

they are absolutely not transparent about casualties.

uhh no. they want Israel to stop killing civilians and children. it doesnt matter if Hamas had blown up 10k tanks and killed 100k soldiers. we would still want Israel to stop.

Definitely the reporting of the Israeli dead is spot on. And largely it's been considered an absolute military triumph so far to have lost so few. It's to the point where the other countries who advised Israel against the incursion are stunned by the low total. It was similar with Iron Dome. Everyone told Israel not to even try, it can't be done. It was similar here ahead of the war, and frankly with good reason. The models in Afghanistan, Iraq, etc showed there's very little precedent for this sort of one-sided military outcome. But here we are. We might be looking at 40 to 1 kill rates for combatants. I don't think the IDF in their wildest dreams figured it possible.

If you think this is true for yourself then that is fine. I have my suspicions, but I dont exactly want to find out definitively either.

But I think it is pretty obvious a giant % of the "ceasefire" crowd would be fine with the Hamas war effort if it wasn't going so poorly. We saw this with the orgiastic joy on the streets of major cities throughout the Muslim and Western world on October 7th and 8th, when it was briefly perceived the war effort was going very well (in reality Hamas actually lost more Jihadis than Israeli civilians died in the invasion).

There is tremendous enthusiasm in the Muslim world and progressive left for the effort of Islamists in killing Jews. The current pessimism is exactly because this is going so poorly.

Btw an interesting topic in this right now is the massive call for the Haredim to serve. For those of you who don't know, they are now a whopping 13% of the country. Their women on average have over 6 children. They hold tremendous political power. And the other 87% over the country is starting to get pretty pissed off by them not serving. 50% of their men don't work even, it's a problem.

https://www.timesofisrael.com/gantz-eise...

Gantz, Eisenkot present plan to expand draft to Haredim, Arabs: ‘Majority must serve’
Cabinet members warn they won’t back extension of blanket draft exemptions; suggest alternate service tracks at ‘recognized security, emergency and charity organizations’

The plan is to draft them into non-combat rolls. Medic, tech, operations, clean up etc. And I think this could be what swings the next election. Huge platform issue. It's not a "maybe" thing. The IDF plans to put many (not sure how many) new battalions on the border that simply do not exist today. The soldiers just aren't there today. So the idea is by having the Haredim do the non-combat positions, you have people you can move into combat rolls. Gantz might very well win his election on this issue.

by Victor P

dead means dead Victor. And there's a reason why they report the dead the way they do. I have no opinion on "injured". But reporting injured stats can definitely be an operational leak they'd want to be very careful of.

Well, Hamas has reiterated that Israel acceding to all its demands and giving it the W is the starting point for negotiations over hostages. As far as the Palestinians go, with friends like these who needs enemies?

While they themselves don't know which hostages are even alive. On a poker site, that's overplaying your hand.

I recently listened to a Sam Harris podcast with someone who studies geopolitics (I forget his name), and he said in his opinion the Haredim right is actually the biggest existential threat to Israel, because they are such a quickly growing population that doesn't participate productively in the economy and has such obviously bad political ideas.

Nice to see the rest of Israel pushing back some.

Zeihan. Lol he's a bit of a crackpot.

But he's about wrong about the Haredim. They're a significant issue, both now and projected out in 50 more years. I'm glad I'll be gone by then.

Gantz is probably winning no matter what

I'm not disagreeing. But I think he uses the election to get this issue over the line

I got to say having religious right wing fanatics that are not only unwilling to die for the cause, but refuse to fight at all, is getting all the downside with none of the upside. Clearly the Bene Gesserit didn't do a very good job here. When the true Jewish Messiah comes I feel he is going to be disappointed.

AND don't contribute much tax-wise.

We'll see how sustainable that is. My sense is not very. It's a forever existential war, because Iran WILL get their nukes. So we'll see what happens when it's really go time down there.

Well, it looks like the dog has finally caught the car and the Houthis have managed a mass casualty hit on a cargo ship. I am sure this will bring a great outcome for the people of Yemen and Gaza.

can it get any worse for them?

"It had a crew of 20, comprising one Indian, four Vietnamese and 15 Filipino nationals. Three armed guards - two from Sri Lanka and one from Nepal - were also on board."

Don't know what the Houthis are thinking. Not much apparently.

they have been clear on what they are thinking. you guys just ignore it. they dont want resources and material to go towards a genocide.

and in fact, they are playing by Israel's rules to some extent. ofc, the Houthis are not executing people at point blank range so they can never be as morally bankrupt as Israel.

Hamas did

So a boat operated by the Greek with a Barbados flag, sailing from Saudi Arabia to China, carrying steel products and trucks, manned mostly by Filipinos... ....is part of the genocide?

Is Vicgpt running the Houthis ship selection here?

I dunno man, you should provide links so I dont gotta do all the research around here

altho my research did find this

oh well, another lie that served its purpose to justify brutality. how many of those workers died from torture in the aftermath?

by PointlessWords P

do you want to bet that I cant? I told you I would give you odds

we get 500 images of palestinians, 500 images of israelis, I will be able to sort them out with a high degree of accuracy.

Clearly you believe I cannot do it, so unless you are broke, you should put your money where your mouth is

but alas, actions speak louder than words; you wont take this bet, you will simply continue to complain about my point but you wont take the necessary

All that would prove is that you're more capable of being racist than those of us who can't tell the difference.
