Edit: RULES FOR THIS THREAD

2+2 Rules

Posting guidelines for Politics and Soci...

These are our baselines. We're not reinventing the wheel here. If you aren't sure if something is acceptable to post, its better to ask first. If you think someone is posting something that violates the above guidelines, please report it or PM me rather than responding in kind.

To reiterate some of the points:

1. No personal attacks. This is a broad instruction, but, in general, we want to focus on attacking an argument rather than the poster making it. It is fine to say a post is antisemitic; it is not okay to call someone an antisemite over and over. If you believe someone is making antisemitic posts, report them or PM me. The same goes for calling people "baby killers" and "genocide lovers". You are allowed to argue that an action supports genocide or that the consequences of certain policies results in the death of children, but we are no longer going to be speaking to one another's intentions. It is not productive to the conversation and doesn't further any debate.

2. Racist posts and other bigoted statements that target a particular group or individuals of such groups with derogatory comments are not allowed. This should not need further explanation.

3. Graphic Images need to be in spoilers with a trigger warning.

4. Wishing Harm on other posters will result in an immediate timeout.

5. Genocidal statements such as "Kill 'em all" etc, are no longer permissible in the thread.

If anyone has any questions about the above, please PM me. I don't want a discussion about the rules to derail the content of this thread. If anything needs clarifying, I will do that in this thread.

Please be aware this thread is strictly moderated
I dunno man, you should provide links so I dont gotta do all the research around here

hmm, kinda sketchy....

youre confusing the words genocide and eradication

they are not the same

palestinian population has skyrocketed, so they have not been eradicated

^ you see, that is true

palestinian population has skyrocketed, so they have not been under a genocide

^^ that statement isnt true, because population decline isnt a requirement of genocide

since you are ignorant as to the definition of this word, I will post it for you

The word “genocide” was first coin

I guess you missed the part on the page you linked about intent, and how difficult that is to determine.

It says something only qualifies as genocide if there is intent to destroy a particular group. "Destroy" is not defined, but I would consider it to be functionally equivalent to eradicate.

I think it is obvious that Israel is not attempting to destroy the Palestinian population, or even the population who lives in Gaza. If that is their intent they're doing a very poor job of it.

Bibi said he was going to trim the population to a minimum.

they have destroyed over 60% of the buildings in Gaza and herded over 1.5m people into a small area. the rest of the people are being deliberately starved to death.

and there is no end in sight. seems they are doing an excellent job.

As others recently pointed out, they could have killed a lot more people with the munitions they have already used. And they could nuclear weapons. The day they nuke Rafah I'll agree with you about the genocide.

by that metric then the Nazis didnt do genocide

So Saudi Arabia and Jordan are now considered to be partially responsible for the genocide? Good to spread around blame I suppose.

there is no clause in the definition of genocide that says you gotta do it as fast as possible

Wait you commented on the Houthis thing without actually knowing anything about the ship? lol that's amazing

Dude there's nothing fishy about the ship. It's as ungenocide as you're going to get in Maritime shipping lanes.

Which metric is that? They didn't use nukes.

by Victor P

True, but the (lack of) speed and efficiency can shed some light on the intent.

You guys know the Houthi’s are doing this to prevent their own genocide via KSA with US armaments

Right?

I didnt comment on the ship. I commented on the Houthis goals and statements.

after looking it up, I found articles stating it was US Owned. seems that it was just sold and the registry hasnt been updated.

seems sketchy that the ship was just sold and then was delivering stuff to SA and Jordan. possibly trying to avoid the Houthi blockade?

yes ofc they are

Great let's hear some more talk about how much they are to blame then, rather than only complaints about the US and Israel.

by PointlessWords P

Right?

The Houthis are attacking civilian maritime shipping lanes to avoid their own genocide? Is that what you're attempting to explain to us?

Yemen is like Gaza for the Saudis.

You must be unfamiliar with the state sponsored genocide against the Houthi’s

by chillrob P

All that would prove is that you're more capable of being racist than those of us who can't tell the difference.

He's proven he's very racist against "white Israel"

I thought that white Israel doesn’t exist?

Suez traffic is down 42% in the first half of Feb, and an 82% drop in tonnage. At 400k to 700k in fees a ship, we'll see how long Egypt enjoys this one.

by chillrob P

I mean, I just told you how they are complicit.

Saudis did a similar campaign as the Israelis to the Houthis for years. they just bombed(with US made bombs ofc) and starved civilians.

by rafiki P

Whatever the exact opposite of Rafah is, I suppose. Hamas clearly controls Rafah. So some form of base of operations seems like it makes sense.

The exact opposite of Rafah sounds a lot like the standard definition of control. So there's not semantics required: did the podcast (and you) believe that Israel lied when they said they had control of north Gaza? Because what the podcast was claiming and what Israel was claiming can't both be true.

by Dunyain P

Propaganda is a part of war, for both internal and external audiences. I am not sure it is productive to over analyze it. No one asks Hamas what it means when they make up a bunch of **** about destroying Israeli tanks. We all get it.

It's a pretty key issue. If after months of fighting in the north Israel does not have a single area under control then that says a lot about the operation. If they do have the north under control then that means they could be administering aid without being fired upon by Hamas.

by PointlessWords P

What does that have to do with maritime shipping lanes?

Btw the 377k dead in Yemen since 2021 (70% children) should have you asking why you haven't made a single Yemen genocide thread or post on X. But hey, that's an aside

I bet pointless can tell the difference between Jordanians and Palestinians (jordan are the genociders!)

attempts to get aid to the North are happening. They just aren't going well.

btw reason #107 why you don't want Trump or Bibi to win.

If you're following the Israeli news cycle today or this week, Bibi's plan is TEN YEARS in Gaza. And that's just his plan, that's not the war cabinet (which is more likely to be what actually happens). So obviously it doesn't mean much. In the same news cycle now they're being very open about Bibi wanting/needing a Trump win.

That should make anyone who is pro Trump and pro Gaza/Hamas, take pause. Also means everything we see in the coming months is going to try to make life harder for Biden, where possible. Bibi is betting on him being finished.
