Edit: RULES FOR THIS THREAD

2+2 Rules

Posting guidelines for Politics and Soci...

These are our baselines. We're not reinventing the wheel here. If you aren't sure if something is acceptable to post, its better to ask first. If you think someone is posting something that violates the above guidelines, please report it or PM me rather than responding in kind.

To reiterate some of the points:

1. No personal attacks. This is a broad instruction, but, in general, we want to focus on attacking an argument rather than the poster making it. It is fine to say a post is antisemitic; it is not okay to call someone an antisemite over and over. If you believe someone is making antisemitic posts, report them or PM me. The same goes for calling people "baby killers" and "genocide lovers". You are allowed to argue that an action supports genocide or that the consequences of certain policies results in the death of children, but we are no longer going to be speaking to one another's intentions. It is not productive to the conversation and doesn't further any debate.

2. Racist posts and other bigoted statements that target a particular group or individuals of such groups with derogatory comments are not allowed. This should not need further explanation.

3. Graphic Images need to be in spoilers with a trigger warning.

4. Wishing Harm on other posters will result in an immediate timeout.

5. Genocidal statements such as "Kill 'em all" etc, are no longer permissible in the thread.

If anyone has any questions about the above, please PM me. I don't want a discussion about the rules to derail the content of this thread. If anything needs clarifying, I will do that in this thread.

Please be aware this thread is strictly moderated
lol caitlin rarely misses. and she sure nails you here

tbf everyone has been saying that.

tbf everyone has been saying that.

I will say this is one area where it must be nice to live in a 3rd world tribal society that doesn't even pretend to have any first principles beyond tribalism. If anyone ever tries to challenge nations like Iraq, Turkey or Syria on their various transgressions to human rights, they can just reply, "**** you infidel" and that is that. So much simpler and cleaner.

Israel for its part seems to have one foot on each side of the pool (liberal and tribal sensibilities), so it creates a lot of tension.

no the American Dem libs have been putting all the blame on Bibi. most in this thread blame Bibi. its real weird that they think Benny Ganz would be any better when he is literally one of the main architects of the war.

quite simply they are misinformed and unable to process information.

I meant everyone who knows something. I said it myself in this thread like a week and a half ago.

Democrats are sadly falling toward victor position; it might be good for them for the elections (not obvious), but it is certainly very morally bankrupt

by Luckbox Inc P

It's all fake. They know the issue hurts them politically so they're running a PR campaign.

Ok here is what I actually said but the "blaming Bibi is for show" is implicit there.

On that insipid note, everyone take the rest of the night off.

I think everyone realizes blaming Netanyahu for everything is the most politically expedient strategy. There is just some differences of opinion whether it is actually mostly his fault or not.

There is also a lot of realpolitik that all nations have to navigate, where you have to give yourself maneuverability to navigate the day after, which you cant really do if you go all in embracing maximalist rhetoric like Victor.

by Brian James P

Man the antisemitism accusation BS gets very boring after a while. It's done on purpose to deligitimize any criticism of Israel.

Disgusting comment

Gantz would probably be better for peace in the short term but would be no different in the war

American liberals are taught that bibi is a trump conservative and benny is a lib American libs are super tribal

Gantz is a hawk for sure, and in a different context (including after/if he replaces Bibi) would/will be despised by American liberals. But he also historically demonstrated restraint (relative to what’s happening now at least) and troop discipline even as he waged war on Hamas.

He is exactly the man Israel needs now to finish the job.

The world, nay, Israelis themselves, will stop the war with Bibi at the helm.

I don’t understand the need to insist whoever comes after Bibi will be just as bad or worse. That’s tantamount to saying Israel is trying to become as homicidal as Hamas.

Of all the people in the world who have an opinion on this, the majority probably think this. Of course, the majority of these people dont have any first principle reasons; they just recognize Hamas as being part of their tribe, and Israel not. Just level 0 tribalism.

Of course we should discount that such people have any moral high ground; but it is also important to recognize they are in fact the majority.

Most people are able to compare numbers. And as far as homicide goes, Israel has it won by like 100fold. That's actually why.

Nah. Of the majority of people that sympathize with Hamas over Israel, they did so on 10/8. Israel's occupation has animated the pro Hamas majority, but it hasn't really shaped very many peoples allegiances.

I don’t know anyone that sides with Hamas. I know lots of people that side with Palestinians

Why did you leave that option out?

No one sided with Hamas on Oct 6. But at this point, anyone paying attention sides with the Resistance.

Nah, this is disgusting.

Excellent article by caitlin once again showing what a phony hypocrite people like Bernie Sanders are.

We’re seeing more and more of the cynical, obnoxious plan of the western liberal political-media class to try and pin the blame for the entire multinational genocidal campaign in Gaza solely on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

“There is growing opposition to Netanyahu’s war machine,” reads a new tweet by Senator Bernie Sanders. “More Americans than ever are standing up against this horrific war in Gaza, which is causing tremendous suffering amongst the Palestinian people.”

This is on the same day we learned that the Biden administration has quietly signed off on the delivery of billions of dollars worth of 2,000-pound bombs and warplanes for Israel to use in its ongoing massacres of civilians in Gaza. There is absolutely no excuse for continuing to babble about “Netanyahu’s war” this far into a US-backed genocide. This is Biden’s war as much as it is Netanyahu’s — and Sanders supports Biden.

Bernie is the one of two dems (sorta dems anyway) in the Senate who voted against the war package to Israel. (the other was Jeff Merkley from Oregon)

I don't know why we're still saying "brink of famine."

It's already famine conditions for civilians unconnected to Hamas or within reach of the little bit of aid being distributed.

If the Israelis can't get their heads out of their arses, just build a port and start distributing aid/feeding people right on the beaches. At this point, medical aid isn't even that high priority. Gazan civilians just need food and calories straight up.

He still supports Biden aka Genocide Joe.

It would be easy enough for Israel to allow, if not provide, enough food aid that it's very hard to not conclude that the reason they aren't doing it is because giving aid would help Gazans remain in Gaza.

by Brian James P

You shall know them by their votes. He's a Senator. His job is to vote. If he voted against the aid, that's what matters. You want him to get on a podium and say "Genocide Joe" leading up to the election? And you think that would help Gazans? Come on.

It might. Who knows?

Or he could just come out and say I don't support Biden for re-election because.....

Being one of only two votes in your whole party against aid isn't much help.
