Edit: RULES FOR THIS THREAD

2+2 Rules

Posting guidelines for Politics and Soci...

These are our baselines. We're not reinventing the wheel here. If you aren't sure if something is acceptable to post, its better to ask first. If you think someone is posting something that violates the above guidelines, please report it or PM me rather than responding in kind.

To reiterate some of the points:

1. No personal attacks. This is a broad instruction, but, in general, we want to focus on attacking an argument rather than the poster making it. It is fine to say a post is antisemitic; it is not okay to call someone an antisemite over and over. If you believe someone is making antisemitic posts, report them or PM me. The same goes for calling people "baby killers" and "genocide lovers". You are allowed to argue that an action supports genocide or that the consequences of certain policies results in the death of children, but we are no longer going to be speaking to one another's intentions. It is not productive to the conversation and doesn't further any debate.

2. Racist posts and other bigoted statements that target a particular group or individuals of such groups with derogatory comments are not allowed. This should not need further explanation.

3. Graphic Images need to be in spoilers with a trigger warning.

4. Wishing Harm on other posters will result in an immediate timeout.

5. Genocidal statements such as "Kill 'em all" etc, are no longer permissible in the thread.

If anyone has any questions about the above, please PM me. I don't want a discussion about the rules to derail the content of this thread. If anything needs clarifying, I will do that in this thread.

Please be aware this thread is strictly moderated
Why ultra nationalism as opposed to concerns of an existential threat to Israel?

by Victor P

hmm, who coulda guessed

Undefeated!!!!!!!

That's a major shift.

no they have been saying that since 2005

I hadn't originally seen this one:

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/73-...

73% of Jewish college students have experienced or seen antisemitism since start of school year, new survey finds

The survey, released by Jewish advocacy groups, found that only 46% of Jewish college students in the U.S. said they felt physically safe on campus after the Oct. 7 terrorist attack in Israel.

Apparently there's a new one being assembled, and I'm not expecting better figures. Just for people trying to explain how Jews "feel"

I wonder how safe Palestinians feel on campus

I wonder how safe Palestinians feel on campus

At Columbia? I'm gonna guess decently safe? I actually don't know though.

Apparently super safe.

can you imagine if some nutjob shot 3 kids wearing yamulkes?

All overreacting babies obviously.

ya I am sure the kids getting spied on and arrested feel safe.

this your Supremacy coming through. your fears are not even in the same stratosphere as the threat level that you expect them to abide.

You’d dismiss it as anti-Zionism and probably throw in a “lol.”

I said I didn't know (I don't go there, and I've not seen data). But at Columbia specifically, it looks like there's a pretty good amount of support in what appears to be a majority position. Being in the majority position never hurts.

Mostly my point is that everyone telling us how little antisemitisim and fear there is in the Jewish community, is out to lunch.

Now if there's data on safety for Palestinians on campus and you post it, hey man I'll read it.

If jews were protesting and setting up camp and making Palestinians feel uncomfortable on campus, is want the protestors removed there too

You mean like hamas did October 7 and you said was justifiable?

https://www.axios.com/2024/01/10/antisem...

The ADL documented 3,283 antisemitic incidents between October 7, 2023, and January 7, the group's report said. That's a 360% jump from the same period a year earlier.

The report said 505 incidents occurred on college campuses, and another 246 were reported in K-12 schools.

About two-thirds of the reported incidents could be directly related to the Israel-Hamas war, the ADL report said.

Simply mentioning an anecdote proves pretty much nothing in this context. It's horrible what happened to those kids, but it is not evidence of what it is like on campus for students... "A pro-Palestine professor murdered a Jewish pro-Israel protestor! Can you imagine if a Jewish professor killed a pro-Palestine professor at a rally?"

It's rage bait.

Not gonna lie. I chuckled IRL at this tweet.

Hey cool, everyone's favorite out-and-proud white supremacist has some takes.

Today we celebrate the liberation from nazi occupation and fascism in Italy (it ended on 25th april 1945 nationwide).

If it is not about antisemitism on the left rather "antizionism", can someone explain to me why in Milan, at the passage of the Jewish Brigade (a part of UK armed forced that contributed to the liberation of italy in 1945) , they get called "murderers" (assassini means that)? being on the radical left is being antisemite

NAOMI KLEIN: My friends, I’ve been thinking about Moses and his rage when he came down from the mount to find the Israelites worshiping a golden calf. The ecofeminist in me has always been uneasy about this story. What kind of god is jealous of animals? What kind of god wants to hoard all the sacredness of the Earth for himself? But there is, of course, a less literal way of understanding this story. It is a lesson about false idols, about the human tendency to worship the profane and shining, to look to the small and material rather than the large and transcendent.

What I want to say to you this evening at this revolutionary and historic Seder in the Streets is that too many of our people are worshiping a false idol once again. They are enraptured by it. They are drunk on it. They are profaned by it. And that false idol is called Zionism.

We seek to liberate Judaism from an ethnostate that wants Jews to be perennially afraid, that wants our children afraid, that wants us to believe that the world is against us so that we go running to its fortress,

Take this evidence with a big grain of salt because we don't know how they are defining an antisemitic incident. The ADL considers anti-Zionism as antisemitism and their poll probably does too. So calling for the West Bank Palestinians to have a vote for the government that controls them is pre-defined as antisemitism.

why would you be dumb enough to believe or care what the ADL claims? do you have any familiarity with that organization?

antizionism is considered antisemitism in the sense of "any claim that a state of Israel in that area shouldn't exist is antisemitism"

A pro-Palestine professor murdered a Jewish pro-Israel protestor

did this happen? what are you referring to?

by Bill Haywood P

From the start, it has produced an ugly kind of freedom that saw Palestinian children not as human beings, but as demographic threats, much as the Pharaoh in the Book of Exodus feared the growing population of Israelites and thus ordered the death of their sons. And as we know, Moses was saved from that by being put in a basket and adopted by an Egyptian woman.

Gosh that sounds familiar...
