Biden gets key GOP endorsement from Geoff Duncan, former lieutenant governor of Georgia

Duncan urging sane conservatives not to align
themselves with a self-centered wannabe authoritarian.

“I am voting for a decent person I disagree with on policy over
a criminal defendant without a moral compass,” Duncan wrote.

It's difficult to put into words just how uninspired I am to care about this election.

I have spent half of my life reading and sometimes posting on a political forum on a poker website. These two facts cannot be a good sign for participation.

Where are the betting lines on how low the overall turnout is going to be this year?

I think Trump will win, and that uneducated opinion is based solely on the fact that I think there are more true believers in the Trump camp than the Biden one. I assume the fanatics on both sides are fully in control of the outcome since it seems we've lost the middle of the curve to apathy.

The people who bitched and moaned the loudest about Trump are currently wetting themselves over Gaza and acting like Biden is just as bad. Meanwhile, I see images that I think might not be AI-created where people at Trump rallies are advocating for the wearing of adult diapers. Again, not following very closely, so I assume this is because Trump had some bad pictures taken that show he may have been rocking Depends, and not that lefties are using AI to make fake images to dunk on Trumpers.

Biden can't compete with a movement where people spent their free time on arts and crafts projects that involve positive messaging for electing a president in diapers. They love this man.

Biden is out there doing **** for people and his supposed supporters are ignoring that and instead accusing him of actively participating in the genocide of brown babies. This is obviously ridiculous on its face, but here we are.

Lefties: what the actual **** is wrong inside your brains? This W is being handed to you on a silver platter. Trump is in court as we speak trying to defend himself against god knows what type of shenanigans, and is ranting in all caps on a social media platform that literally only he uses. I see the betting lines up there in post #2857. How have we arrived at this moment in time?

This all makes perfect sense but doesn't change the fact that you've been wrong in 100% of your previous predictions, so it's a bit of a poser.

I'll add that the economy is in the best 5-10% historically (just going with unemployment), and it's the incumbent seeking a second term, that alone would almost always guarantee re election with good margins.

even not being a 90%+ favorite is obscene and means you are hated pathologically by significant portions of society much more than it's normally the case, or your opponent is extraordinarily liked more than usual (the former is more probable given approvement rates).

this said given everything should be in favor of Biden being reflected, including short term economic trend (even inflation is far less disastrous than it was 1-2 years ago), he still has a decent shot.

but it's incredible the election is even in play tbh

There is more to the economy than unemployment.

Just because inflation has gotten better doesn't mean we are no longer effected by previous high inflation. You do realize that inflation is the change in the average bucket of goods and is typically based on a year to year basis so even when people say inflation "has comes down" they are just saying inflation is nearing normal inflation rates even though the base for that is way higher because of the previous year's inflation, right?

I think Biden gets killed on the economy unless he convince more peopel of the lie that dems didn't intentionally cause inflation by printing too much money for too long, paid people too much for too long to not work, splashed around too much cash in the economy and shut down parts of the economy. I think they have to bank on their voters not hearing from real economists by finding an economist on the payroll (govt employee) who is a good story teller who can convince people that he had no idea that too much money chasing too few goods was the actual recipe of inflation.

Real wages keep growing, nominal wages are growing higher than inflation.

And retired people have full COLA.

And the stock market is going great and anyone with a pension fund knows that.

I do realize that inflation going down still means prices are higher today than in April 2023.

But wages grew more than prices since April 2023, IE people live better than they did.

Inflation is close to normal but wages are growing more than they normally do!

US has the best economic situation in the world but Biden sucks …

Yes baham we know for you a 1930 depression with millions job lost style is better then a burst of inflation ….

1970s was so much worst then 1930s….

And yes Biden was the sole creator of inflation worldwide even before he was even president .
Preach bro preach .

Ps: regardless of any economic data, if in the end it was a trump presidency you wouldn’t care about it if it would end up being the best economy in the world .
And we saw it already .
U didn’t care about debt under trump because the economy was great ….
Such hypocrisy.

traditional stats like unemployment used to take temperature on the economy are no longer corresponding with public perception of the economy. some of that is partisanship, but not all.

74% of the NYT respondents regard the economy as only fair (23%) or poor (51%).

contrast with the '96 election when the unemployment rate was higher but 70% of americans rated the economy as very or fairly good.

public perception of inflation is also at extreme odds with official inflation data:

And as an analysis of the WSJ data shows, inflation is still the main reason why economic sentiment remains depressed. More than two-thirds of voters say that inflation is headed in the wrong direction, and nearly three-quarters say that price increases are exceeding gains in household income.

[...] Only 22% of Black Americans, 13% of Hispanics, and 18% of young adults believe that they are better off financially today than they were a year ago. (The figure for the electorate as a whole is a rock-bottom 15%.) And during a period in which party affiliation has a much greater effect on economic evaluations than it did two decades ago, only 26% of Democrats say that their economic circumstances have improved over the past year. Just [...] 21% of the full electorate believe that economic conditions are getting better, while an outright majority of voters (52%) say that things are getting worse.

President Biden continues to get low marks for his handling of inflation. Overall, only 35% of voters approve of his handling of this issue.

When it comes to the economy, Donald Trump enjoys a clear edge over Biden. According to a CBS News poll released in early March, 65% of voters rate the economy as good during Trump’s presidency, compared to 38% under Biden. Only 17% believe that Biden’s policies will make prices go down, compared to 44% for Trump. Consistent with these findings, 55% think that Trump would do a better job of dealing with the economy, compared to 33% who think that Biden would.

The economy is doing extremely well. The markets are ripping, everything is green sir. Jobs are there to be had. Wages are going up, inflation down. What's wrong again?

You think Joe would be out there telling anyone and everyone that . Doing interview after interview telling the folks about the great economy he has created . How your life is so much better

Maybe. It's nice to be able to believe reality and not t-shirt blurbs and political campaigns.

Yeah when the guy touts his Bidenomics and how great the stock markets doing ( same thing Trump did and the democrats reply most folks do not own stocks) but the reality is that when your paying more for groceries and gas and rent and the interest rates on new mortgages is way higher and Mcdonald's is even unaffordable your not going to believe how great the economy is . Yes you can get three jobs to feed the family

I look at the USA's economy compared to Canada and I agree its staggering how good it is. Unemployment rate 3 point lower, inflation slightly lower but your food costs and gas costs compared to us and housing costs . I wish we could have your economy

I'm confused Mr. Billy Goat. Is this a new kinda "bothSides" argument?

I don't think the bolded is dispositive. Trump had far more true believers in 2020 as well.

From a political perspective, the current situation in Israel was close to the worst possible thing that Biden could have been forced to handle. The Democratic tent has always included an uneasy coalition of Israel supporters and social justice warriors who despise American foreign policy. The current conflict really exposures those fissures in the coalition.

Lefties: what the actual **** is wrong inside your brains? This W is being handed to you on a silver platter.

There is a certain segment of people who don't care about a W. They would be happy to burn it down in the hopes that a phoenix arises from the ashes. I don't share their conviction that anything that arose from the ashes would be better than the status quo.

You are giving the progressive left way too much credit here. They want to burn it all down because they are misanthropic narcissists. There is no "day after" hope. And also, there is a number of Islamists who simply priotize the Ummah over their national identity. So if there is any perceived tension, the religious priorities come first.

It will be interesting in the decades to come to see how Democrats who actually care about the country and want it to thrive navigate the reality so many members of their coalition simply don't.

And unlike the right, a lot of these people are very interested in politics, policy and activism; so they can be a lot more destructive and divisive.

by Trolly McTrollson P

What are the great accomplishments of the Biden admin, in your opinion?

If I were a lefty, I'd point to some of the following, even though I know full well that Biden himself isn't in charge of all this:

- Improvements to labor laws to cut back on overtime abuse.
- I hear net neutrality is back?
- A bunch of attempts, some successful, at deleting student loans off the books.
- You can buy abortions over the counter now.
- Various global warming stuff, too numerous to list
- You can receive your opposite-sex hormones without actually seeing a doctor in person. Quick phone call to a sketchy internet site and your new boobs come in the mail. Biden calls it "telemedicine".

I'm not exactly on the mailing list, so these are just things off the top of my head that I perceive lefties to usually be very excited about.

Honestly, what does any president really do to get people truly excited aside from sending them physical checks in the mail? Don't make me Google all the Biden camp talking points. You can do that on your own.

Ironically, this is mostly helping red states. As the regulatory hurdles in most blue states are too high to make building clean energy infrastructure cost effective, even with generous subsidies.

I very specifically asked you what your favorite Biden policies are.

Well, you actually said this, which is a different question than above, and the one that I'll choose to answer:

What are the great accomplishments of the Biden admin, in your opinion?

Their ability to behave themselves on a daily basis and not clutter up my media feeds with constant twitter rants.

There's really nothing else off the top of my head that excites me personally. I am not the target audience for the modern democrat party. My kids are grown, I make too much money, and I'm a straight white dude without a therapist.
