Edit: RULES FOR THIS THREAD

2+2 Rules

Posting guidelines for Politics and Soci...

These are our baselines. We're not reinventing the wheel here. If you aren't sure if something is acceptable to post, its better to ask first. If you think someone is posting something that violates the above guidelines, please report it or PM me rather than responding in kind.

To reiterate some of the points:

1. No personal attacks. This is a broad instruction, but, in general, we want to focus on attacking an argument rather than the poster making it. It is fine to say a post is antisemitic; it is not okay to call someone an antisemite over and over. If you believe someone is making antisemitic posts, report them or PM me. The same goes for calling people "baby killers" and "genocide lovers". You are allowed to argue that an action supports genocide or that the consequences of certain policies results in the death of children, but we are no longer going to be speaking to one another's intentions. It is not productive to the conversation and doesn't further any debate.

2. Racist posts and other bigoted statements that target a particular group or individuals of such groups with derogatory comments are not allowed. This should not need further explanation.

3. Graphic Images need to be in spoilers with a trigger warning.

4. Wishing Harm on other posters will result in an immediate timeout.

5. Genocidal statements such as "Kill 'em all" etc, are no longer permissible in the thread.

If anyone has any questions about the above, please PM me. I don't want a discussion about the rules to derail the content of this thread. If anything needs clarifying, I will do that in this thread.

Please be aware this thread is strictly moderated
Word is that blinken coming out with a report about if Israel is using weapons properly and or committing war crimes. Word is the the he will admonish Israel for carelessness but will conclude that have not committed war crimes. This means weapon shipments will continue

Who indeed?

"Gangs of Jewish settlers under the control of the Israeli government"

Are you sure they don't have that backwards?

Nobody took their land

They have deeds issued by the Ottomans and the British. You don't believe in private property?

wtf do the Gazans have to do with that?

you know what did happen to the Gazans in the last few months? IDF soldiers systematically looted houses of all the cash and valuables for 10s of millions of dollars from regular people and stole over a billion from Gazan Banks.

if this stuff is making CNN then you know its about a million times worse

No need to get so abusive.

Yeah I crossed the line with that one.😮

You don't encourage people to become more moderate by bombing the **** out of them.

To be honest, it did work on the Germans, but only in a particular context (catastrophic defeat and imposition of an Allied military government until enough not-too-badly-tainted Germans could take over), and that kind of bombing was arguably to some extent outlawed by Arts. 51 and 54 of the 1977 Protocol I to the Geneva Conventions. (Israel, however, is not a party to the Protocols. Palestine is, but Hamas does not subscribe to the Palestinian Authority and obviously committed quite a few war crimes on Oct 7 and possibly since.)

Nobody took their land

Gaza has their own government and if terrorist weren't in office can actually become a nation

Israel did take Gaza in 1967, and aggressively settled Zionist townships on it and stayed for nearly 40 years, in belligerent defiance of UNSCR 242. Even after supposedly withdrawing in 2005 the Israelis still maintained complete physical control of the territory's power, water and borders -- and the work permits on which much of the Gazan economy depended -- while randomly and regularly sniping and killing Gazans with cross-border fire for no particular reason except to exert dominance and occasionally bombing and shelling the place for luck.

All land has been taken. The silliest argument ever is that some land in the Levant belongs to someone because Britain gave it to them. The land was Britain's to give?

It's not to do with Britain. It's to do with the UN Partition Plan of 1947.

Schlitz has probably been the worst but I could make a pretty good case for closing the thread and banning a lot of people.

Reading last night's posts, I am going to close this thread for a few days.

ANY posts related to I/P in ANY other threads will get poster banned. ESPECIALLY the moderation thread.

To be clear...... S mmmmm and Victor are to blame in my mind. But most the rest of you are not helping much by feeding the trolls. This could be an adult conversation but so far the adults have left the room.

Alright, friends. We're going to give this another try.

The first thing I'm going to ask of you is to re-familiarize yourselves with the below posts:

I'm really hoping that we can all agree on the above rules being fairly simple to follow and generally acceptable to everyone. Lets all try to get along and continue to have a productive conversation together. Thanks guys! 😀

for the people that say kill them all, we can call them baby killers right? They have stated they self identify with that, I don't understand what the issue is

please define racism

guidelines are actually completely reasonable.

Hi friend! I'm going to ask you to reread the above post and then try to follow the protocol its established. Thank you!

"but we are no longer going to be speaking to one another's intentions. It is not productive to the conversation and doesn't further any debate."

so to clarify, for people that tell us their intentions are to kill everyone, or kill Palestinian babies, where does this fall? I am confused cause they clarify their position so its not really speaking to ones intentions but reiterating a previously decided position.

It does seem like you guys are giving the baby killers some extra protections that they dont need

damn I had a sick gif lined up to be the first post back and yall beat me too it

Hi friend! So now you have two options- you can PM me with questions, as instructed in the opening post, or you can take a short timeout until you're ready. Thank you 😀

Well, apologies in advance. Those rules won't be followed. When people break 1, 2 and 5 but they word things so that they leave everything to implications or subtext, well, I'm not going to report posts or PM mods that's for sure.

UN rights chief: major assault on Rafah can't be reconciled with international law

A full-scale Israeli assault on the southern Gaza city of Rafah “cannot take place”, the UN human rights chief has warned, saying it could not be reconciled with international law.

The Israeli military on Saturday expanded an evacuation order for eastern Rafah and said 300,000 Palestinians had left the area.

“The latest evacuation orders affect close to a million people in Rafah. So where should they go now? There is no safe place in Gaza!” Volker Turk, the UN high commissioner for human rights, said in a statement.

“These exhausted, famished people, many of whom have been displaced many times already, have no good options.”

He said a full-scale offensive could have a “catastrophic impact … including the possibility of further atrocity crimes”.

“I can see no way that the latest evacuation orders, much less a full assault, in an area with an extremely dense presence of civilians, can be reconciled with the binding requirements of international humanitarian law and with the two sets of binding provisional measures ordered by the international court of justice.”

Israel lacks 'credible plan' to safeguard Rafah civilians, US secretary of state says

The US secretary of state, Antony Blinken, has defended a decision to pause a delivery to Israel of 3,500 bombs over concerns they could be used in Rafah, saying Israel lacked a “credible plan” to protect the civilians sheltering there.

Discussion of the rules is for PM's, not this thread. Thanks friends!

ok so a lot of stuff happened while we were gone.

seems like Egypt is mad or at least pretending to be mad that Israel broke their International Agreement from like 1979 or whenever.

USA found it reasonable to conclude that Israel used weapons inconsistent with international law but didnt actually break it? or something like, too lazy too look it up but like cmon.

but the scenes were horrific from the targeting of civilians the last few days. we saw a child live stream his own death. he was singing as bombs dropped all around him until one inevitably ended the stream in a flash. we saw people running down rubble strewn streets to avoid the bombs all around.

here is a non graphic video describing 40 civilians murdered while holding hands.
https://twitter.com/AJEnglish/status/178...

also Ralph Nader once again tweeted that by using historical methodology on bombs dropped and population density that 200k are dead. remember that Israeli media surmised that 100k were dead a few months ago using other methodology.

Gaza is simply not counting the dead anymore. the Health Ministry stopped months ago.

oh and dont forget about the cnn report on the torture camps that Israel is running. remember Palestinians were talking about these places since November. Haaretz reported on them months ago. but now even mainstream US media has picked it up.

https://www.cnn.com/2024/05/10/middleeas...

you guys ofc dismissed the reports back then. but now, we know it is cerainly much worse than even was put out then.

Gl CN and those guidelines are fine.

My only advice would be to not try too hard to govern each post and poster in relation to the guidelines as you'll often find yourself arguing semantics with some really weird accounts.

Expect the guidelines to be broken, often, but always realize that simply handing out temp bans for egregious behavior will always be appreciated by most and usually expected by the others.

In short, instead of trying to prevent every child from spilling their milk cup on the carpet, just focus on preventing them from burning down the house.
