Edit: RULES FOR THIS THREAD
Posting guidelines for Politics and Soci...
These are our baselines. We're not reinventing the wheel here. If you aren't sure if something is acceptable to post, its better to ask first. If you think someone is posting something that violates the above guidelines, please report it or PM me rather than responding in kind.
To reiterate some of the points:
1. No personal attacks. This is a broad instruction, but, in general, we want to focus on attacking an argument rather than the poster making it. It is fine to say a post is antisemitic; it is not okay to call someone an antisemite over and over. If you believe someone is making antisemitic posts, report them or PM me. The same goes for calling people "baby killers" and "genocide lovers". You are allowed to argue that an action supports genocide or that the consequences of certain policies results in the death of children, but we are no longer going to be speaking to one another's intentions. It is not productive to the conversation and doesn't further any debate.
2. Racist posts and other bigoted statements that target a particular group or individuals of such groups with derogatory comments are not allowed. This should not need further explanation.
3. Graphic Images need to be in spoilers with a trigger warning.
4. Wishing Harm on other posters will result in an immediate timeout.
5. Genocidal statements such as "Kill 'em all" etc, are no longer permissible in the thread.
If anyone has any questions about the above, please PM me. I don't want a discussion about the rules to derail the content of this thread. If anything needs clarifying, I will do that in this thread.
Please be aware this thread is strictly moderated
I think calling people a liar for common beliefs is not allowed in this thread
We have had the evidence in our faces for months on end non stop . Are you blind?
I have 20/20 vision. Please don't ask me stupid questions
How many of the 30,000 killed were hamas .. in your estimation? 12?
This is how you sleep at night
Who defines "armed forces"?
Palestine is now recognized as a country by many other countries.
There is a group of armed people who call themselves Hamas which is a wing of those in the ruling government, also called Hamas.
IMO, that means the armed group of Hamas is an armed force. In what way do you think they should not be considered an armed force?
I'm going to quit this thread for now before I say something I regret. How some of you people sleep at night I have no idea.
can you citte any source who consider Hamas a terrorist organization and wants it's eradication (which is the only moral and legal position possible in any country that considers Hamas terrorists) that agrees with you?
because what anyone who has ever supported any claim by Hamas says, has 0 value
I count dead terrorist bodies
Martyrs, lol.
So my thoughts on this deal
Bibi and Israel are very worried about hezbollah. So if they can get the hostages back and have a ceasefire with hamas, that can turn to Hezbollah. At some point that can deal with Hamas again, if need be. But there will be no path to a Palestinian state with hamas in power
If part of this deal really is normalization with Saudi, even better
wasn't there like a whole explanation earlier in this thread about how the word "martyr" means different things in different languages/faiths.
muslims call people that died in earthquakes martyrs, so it could easily be the same for dying in bombed buildings.
we are all supposed to hate nazis. (problem is, alot of white people do not hate nazis)
when we see a group of people described as nazis, its socially acceptable to attack them.
When we describe jews as nazis, now its socially acceptable to attack jews (which alot of white AND middle eastern people like)
We do not want to create situations where Jews are being attacked and its socially acceptable.
I have some radical ideas about whats going on but I don't mean to present them if they are simply too outlandish and belong in the fringe thread etc. Yet to me they are part of a proper full set of strategy considerations from the Israeli/Jewish perspective that I don't see anywhere (and I'd be concerned upon considering the possibilities of them-they are concerning to me).
Seems like a bad translation if that is true.
Its another reason why its best that bibi cut this **** out and is voted out. Youve had one actual modern day nazi posting regularly here and holding hands with the pro Palestinian side and id would assume that there were others. But wtf knows just how rampant it is. I mean, its usually a tell when you've got jan 6 defenders somehow expressing sympathy for the well being of brown folks across the world. I feel like the biggest misunderstanding is that a Nazi's hate for jews is similar to that of those of something else. Its everything to them.
I too am very concerned what this group that represents less than 0.2% of the world population and only controls that tiny little red sliver of land is up to. Do tell what your concern is.
No I mean if I was Jewish or Israeli, I'd be concerned about some of the possibilities I'm thinking about that might be the underlying cause of the action being taken.
We all have our opinions...But I think Israel is losing the favor of the world over this...and I think that might be intentional.
I am perfectly ok with you presenting your theory. But there is a new moderator who is much more "hands on" than the previous regime, so I cant guarantee you wont be banned over it. But as you are not a repeat offender it would probably only be 24 hours, so I say go for it.
This sounds like arguing someone with a shaved head and a whole bunch of German military accouterments circa 1939-1945 could have a lot of different reasons for their choices of hair style and hobby collecting. Or it could be exactly what it looks like.
Martrydom in contemporary Palestinian culture has a very specific context and meaning, so when a Palestinian (or Palestinian supporter) is using that specific term referring to Palestinians who died during a war with Israel, the meaning is probably exactly what you expect it is.
I just watched a military video my friend just sent me. I can't share it with you because it's extremely disturbing . I didn't realize how many terrorist brigades there are in Gaza. It makes me wonder how this peace deal will work. Does it only apply to Hamas? Also, this video shows how careless these groups are with their munitions. The guy in the video points out that many of the dead civilians are being hit by friendly fire. This is of course being highly under reported.
I know what I think of when I hear that word.
How do we know that these aren't martyred Israeli hostages?
One of my theories draw on a ton of info I have on ai/chatgtp that comes from a unique view I have on scaling etc. It's all convinced me the backdooring problem is MUCH worse than we as normal citizens are thinking. So this could be outlandish as a theory but I still think its the start of some useful 'open the overton window' type thinking.
So the first thought is that isreal doesn't control its targets, or the question of perhaps who does, or even more sophisticated...WHO is legally responsible for the strike lists produced by AI:
https://www.972mag.com/lavender-ai-israe...
Formally, the Lavender system is designed to mark all suspected operatives in the military wings of Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), including low-ranking ones, as potential bombing targets. The sources told +972 and Local Call that, during the first weeks of the war, the army almost completely relied on Lavender, which clocked as many as 37,000 Palestinians as suspected militants — and their homes — for possible air strikes.
At first it might seem trivial but how do you secure such a system (how do you secure the software and firmware from trojans etc!)? WHERE are the servers? Is EVERYTHING local to Israel? What is the data/training set? Israel could be simply narrating targets someone else is choosing.
It makes me think that underground operations have become super import for ai. And I would like to suggest that we are well past the state where AI is the MOST critical component of a military.
The other consideration that is relevant and somewhat supported is a question of whether or not Israel felt that the tunneling had gone too far and it was a do or die reaction from Isreal. It just doesn't make sense to me why they would throw their world reputation away over all this. My outlandish theory here tho is that the Hamas side has seismic technology that made it SEEM like they had crazy tunnels and the tunnels don't exist other than the small network found so far.
I can think of different things that are underground and existential for Israel in this regard.
Then this would be like a middle east Vietnam situation.
Israel is almost completely surrounded by enemies either actively attacking it, or threatening too. Maybe it is just a simple fact that Israel decided the threat from the South, both realized and potential, was too great so they decided to do something about it. And maybe 10/7 gave them the justification to do what certain segments of Israeli govt and society already wanted to do.
I could be wrong, but I suspect at the moment they are trying to destroy as much of Hamas's military infrastructure as possible, to neutralize the threat as much as possible in the short term; so they can move their focus to Hezbollah/Lebanon in the North without having to worry about the Southern border.
The last thing Israel needs is to worry about 20,000 missiles from Gaza, or even an invasion, during a major war with Lebanon in the North. And it looks like there is now no threat of this happening.
And I would not blame Israel at all if this was what was going on. I find it completely ridiculous that Israel has the ability to greatly neutralize the threats surrounding them and threatening their existential existence, and they are supposed to just turn the other cheek so as not to upset the Arab street and disrupt energy supply.
I think Israel should unapologetically secure their borders and neutralize the belligerents attacking them, as much as they have the ability to.
