SIDES - Inaugural Game Thread

SIDES - Inaugural Game Thread

In this thread, we will play a new word game called Sides. It's somewhat similar to codenames, but cooperative and different.

Sign up with /in below if you want to play.

In this game, a target word will be randed as will a row of 7 cards that have letters on them (most 1 letter, some 2/3/4 letters).

2 people will be the guessers and everyone else will be able to give a clue.

The clue given must start with the letter on either the first or last card (the 'sides' of the row).

We discuss as a team who will give the clue with open discussion in the thread such as "I have a 7 letter word starting with a C"

Once there is some agreement on who gives the clue, that person will bold the clue they want to give in the thread.

The two guessers will then discuss in the thread and bold their guess. If it's correct, we move on to the next guessers and the next word. If wrong, then the clue givers post some info like "you are warm" or "you are about 30% there" etc to give directional info on how on track/off track their guess is.

Then they discuss and give another clue. But the person who bolded a clue cannot give another clue for the same word until everyone on the cluing side has clued a word (if we take that long to get the word), so one person can't hog the cluing.

Clues have to be one word, or an acronym, etc like in codenames; they can be hyphenated words

We can also give some info on how the clues relate to each other, or even say a clue is a 0 clue, so the opposite of what cluing for (e.g., clue 'colorful' as an opposite clue because the word is zebra)

I'll provide more details and examples in the thread in the morning, but this should be enough info for you to /in and join so we can play.

I got nothin'. So if we assume what you say is correct, any idea on the other clues? I3 is a lock apparently.

A5 is usury. The only I3 lock that I can think of would be IRS if the answer is "tax". I'd like to have a thought of A7, D7, or A12.

IRS is the first thing I thought of too, but we definitely would've had audit/accountant clues if it was tax.

I think we just bold loanshark and move onto the next clue. We can't even be sure what this clue is lol.

Could bank fit?

It could fit. Do you have any ideas for the A and I clues that make you like bank?

D7 could be deposit. A7 could be America? That could obviously go lots of ways, but ervin did say it was only good as a confirmer.

I3 = ING? That is a bank in Australia, but I dunno if Americans know it.

I really don't know about the others, but I imagine there are a bunch of banks that I've never even heard of that could possibly fit some of the clues.

Could it be as simple as "shark"?

I know Great White, Hammerhead, and that's about it. And "Jaws" would be a bink. The letters available were A/UNKQ on the outside. IH/DL on the next level inside.

Any comments on what I posted?

Sorry. I've never heard of ING. Usury is a crime for predatory high interest and I'm having a hard time getting to bank. But it's probably not "shark" because H10 wasn't named, which would be hammerhead. Let's move forward.

bank

WOO HGOO

I spelt usury wrong sorry but yh

UBS was probably illegal as U3?

yeah it was for ING, which we do have in the US as an online bank, plus I think generally they are one of the larger banks in the world

UBS is illegal bc the b stands for bank, yes

"a7->d7 isn't bad, either"

account -> deposit

good job getting there; there weren't any great 1-hit clues since words like account and America hit a lot of things

Round 12:

Cards used: 13
Guessers: bolt/ibd

The Board:

A | DL | EF | T | JOVW | B | IH

The target word:
Sent to d1, doctor zeus, ervin

a3 isn't bad
h4 either

h6 is fine

h6 is good but not sure it gets it in 1; a lot of ways to go with that by itself

yh true and I dunno if B unlocks

Eh h6->b10 is quite good?

L7 is decent also

I really like A3 but it could fail if they don't think of the right thing; maybe it's a 2nd clue if needed

Great job on bank!!

My a12 was amortization lol, mostly to get in the domain but you didn't need it!

I know the h6 and yea by itself unlikely

B4 obv seems great but that's us knowing the word, in reverse may not be enough. B11 could be kinda OK with the H, Ima look tad more

B11 is oookkkkk?

dont know what A3 is

yeah, you may not know a3 until I clue it

I8 may work?
