In other news

In the current news climate we see that some figures and events tend to dominate the front-pages heavily. Still, there are important, interesting or just plain weird things happening out there and a group of people can find these better than one.

I thought I would test with a thread for linking general news articles about "other news" and discussion. Perhaps it goes into the abyss that is page 2 and beyond, but it is worth a try.

Some guidelines:
- Try to find the "clean link", so that links to the news site directly and not a social media site. Avoid "amp-links" (google).
- Write some cliff notes on what it is about, especially if it is a video.
- It's not an excuse to make outlandish claims via proxy or link extremist content.
- If it's an editorial or opinion piece, it is polite to mark it as such.
- Note the language if it is not in English.
- There is no demand that such things be posted here, if you think a piece merits its own thread, then make one.

Well I guess if he has 2 reasonable views then all the crazy ones and the sexual misconduct don't matter.

Has he been charged? NO the DOJ declined

keep carrying that water....

going to bat for matt "it's just ephebophilia not pedophilia" Gaetz is pretty on brand. lol.

aren't these the same people that "blame" the democrats for the failings of the house when it was gaetz that brought the motion because McCarthy wouldn't cover up the investigation into gaetz.

The psycopathic mayor of Paris , communist Anne Hildago, decided that athletes in the summer shouldn't have access to AC.

"because the climate" the intend to cool with cooling pipes which won't work.

The USA, Italy and a few others will bring their own AC

Climate activists are simply religious nutters

Eh, I don't know why they would ever have A/C when it says that fewer than 10% of the residents of Paris have it.
It will now definitely be unfair for some athletes to have it and some without.

The "cooling pipes" idea does seem pretty silly though, and that would use energy anyway.

because quarters for the Olympic games are built anew and contemporary architecture is very hostile to human well being without AC/heating, while a ton of Paris buildings where built before AC/heating existed so they used all available knowledge to make it more bearable.

also usually Parisians don't need to be at their peak performance for physical activity in the deep of summer

Italy just qualified for the playoffs of the European championship with a goal at the 97th min which is possibly a world record for late goal which materially matters for qualification.

After an horrid game where we played very poorly

Brings back your glory days of 1982 when you qualified without scoring a goal and then a player who had been banned for life won the world cup for you

I though we had already consumed all our national luck in the 2006 world championship when we had a top20 team and every game, some random tier2 player with no pedigree played the best game in his life, we had defenders who scored twice in 6 club championships scoring the crucial goal to progress that year.

More than once. Like a string of inane miracles.

Now this goal at the actually 98th minute which is kind of a joke if you think about it, which games last 98 minutes? One in 100? One in 500?

It's increasingly common with the new rules

kind of an interesting debate about extra time going on.. it seems clear that a lot of people didnt like it in the last world cup and now we are almost rubberbanding back in some comps.

in the copa america a game had a second half stoppage of 4 minutes real time, 8 substitutions, and 2 goals and there was THREE minutes of extras added. lol.

Apparently they are hoping to trade him for an assassin in a German prison.

They should have kept the guy they traded for the pothead basketball player, then maybe trade him now.

In 2011 there was a game where arsenal went ahead of liverpool in the 98th minute and still didn't win.

Boomer MAGA chodes are getting scammed by shady gold merchants. Man, these people are born marks.

Wreckem, how much did you buy?

places like infowars aren't worth hundreds of millions of dollars because people just love the content.

the entire right wing ecosphere is just a grift ring and people are too racist or ignorant to know/care.

I love how the guy says "they don't publish the spot price of gold on their site so their customers don't know they're paying up to 100% mark-up". The fact that these people are too dumb to find the spot price of gold somewhere else and compare is just so obvious it's left implied.

exactly.. internet scams have been around from the the dawn of the internet. but the maga movement seems to have just brought them into a golden age. lol

when they were talking about how the reviews work, i was just thinking to myself about how a classmate of mine in highschool and his brother used to scam people during the early days of ebay.. and they would run dozens of "powerseller" accounts because you just bought and sold 10cent items and left reviews for other scammers. and then rug pull 1 giant sale and shut the account down and move on. this is just a matter of scale with companies instead of accounts.

Sadly it has nothing to with racism and the grift isn't reserved for the right Lets not forget the democrat darling SBF .

His grift wasn't aimed at any particular political affiliation. Your point that other scammers exist who don't target people based on political affiliation isn't nearly as smart or insightful as you seem to think it is. If you wanted to refute his statement, you would point out scammers advertising only on CNN and MSNBC.

the racism powers the party not the grift. MAGAs are blindly allegiant to the party because the party treats the "other" the way the MAGA's want them to be treated.

the grift is just included on top. the average MAGA gets nothing from the politics. there are no policies in there that benefit people.

also idk how you can think a crypto scammer is a)relevant b)more aligned with the democrats or c)is a similar grift to selling old people trumpy bears.

actually, i take that back. you're right. not in anyway that you meant it. not that SBF was somehow a "democrat darling" or that his scam was relevant to this.

but the people that fall victim to nft/cyrpto scams in general are probably squarely in the MAGA demographic as well. they are just the future gold scam/reverse mortgage victims.

I would like to call out that CNN is implicitly referred to as a left wing organization here. They target themselves towards the center and try to be unbiased, but because they report something closer to unbiased, they're considered 'left'. This is how MAGA has moved the political spectrum single-handedly. They even have their own media platforms that I suppose are off the spectrum propaganda.

Yes, reality has a well documented left wing/liberal bias.

Hopefully it soemhow had some value

A court-appointed bankruptcy trustee has indicated plans to sell off right-wing conspiracy theorist Alex Jones' Infowars media empire to pay some of the $1.5b (£1.18b) he owes to families of the Sandy Hook school shooting victims.

In a court filing filed on Sunday, the trustee, Christopher Murray, said he was planning to close operations of Infowars' owner Free Speech Systems and "liquidate its inventory".
