Why do you think they can do that? If Biden wants to run again and the DNC doesn't support him it's effectively conceding the election.

I'm not convinced Biden really wants to run

Regardless the dnc leaked the michael Bloomberg sexual harassment crap as soon as they decided 4 years ago that they couldn't control him

So they have shown in the past that they have way more power than you give them credit for

RNC delegates are bound, DNC delegates are pledged. You are absolutely right, if biden wants to run and the DNC renegs on him it’s such a cluster**** that trump wins

I assume what would happen is DNC goes to biden and says step aside and support our decision and candidate cuz youre not getting the nomination. Biden can either abide by that or go gracefully or refuse it and the DNC is in tatters. Considering trump is now matching his fundraising I don’t see much reason for the dnc to be loyal to biden even before tonight

I'm pretty sure you are wrong and he isn't eligible

I've suggested this previously but no one addressed it to agree, disagree, or even laugh about it.

Replace Harris on the ticket with (Barack) Obama and the quiet understanding that he will be main decision maker.

Then if Biden dies or becomes completely incapacitated, Obama will take over the presidency. There is nothing in the constitution to prevent this from happening as far as I can tell. I have seen articles online debating this, but

by metsandfinsfan P

You think they can put in newsome and kick out Kamala?

I have no idea. Like I said, seems messy to me. It's a culture war bonanza of bullshit to overcome. Shits gonna get weird.

Cnn has 12 undecided voters .. they were undecided before the debate

They mostly all now say they have decided to vote for Trump

Newsom +800

Trump was -210 at this price

Line has now moved to trump -190, Newsom +650. Biden in between

Biden gives you the best shot....hopefully he wins. But none of these crazy options sound good when you're trying to be the sane party.

by StoppedRainingMen P

Harris definitely wouldn’t be newsom’s running mate if it came to that but the bench is so short that if you’re starting from scratch there aren’t many options. Butegieg? **** maybe throw a Hail Mary and go AOC?

The real Hail Mary would be Michelle Obama(who surely doesn't even want the job) with Kamala staying at VP(because that is the only viable way for that to happen and not be a big mess.)

Oddly enough, that would create a landslide victory AND maximum butthurt across MAGA nation.

Obama also gets a last lol too😆. Trump would lose his mind.

lol, the bros and the maga'ts think he's getting replaced?

hahahahahahhahahahah

come on man.

Despite Gaza, inflation, general discontent and candidate frustration I believed this to be true and assumed he would show up tonight like a bat out of hell and made clear the choice was relative sanity or Donald trump

By any objective measure biden failed at that. Dude was an absolute shell of himself

I don’t consider myself a bro or a MAGA but ya, I think he’s done. Maybe in a month I’ll look like a ****ing idiot for that but still

I suspect a lot of the overreaction to Biden's at times bumbling delivery comes from denial about his problems and his candidacy, and suddenly, when you can't really deny it, you overreact. Anybody with a brain not in denial knows Biden has moments like this, so to react so violently to it is really just a confession that you were trying to get away with some BS.

Trump brought some game, less lying than usual (which isn't saying much). There are monumental losing points on Trump's side, but much of the electorate doesn't care, and the fact that the Dems have made themselves so vulnerable to this movement is so bad. I've been saying for a couple years that some very bad senior moment by Biden could swing the election and a lot more. That might have been it.

Performance of the night goes to, of all people, Kamala Harris. I thought she might backstab Biden a bit indirectly, but she did just the opposite, and tried to focus the near hysterical media on the issues and the implications, not the senior moment. She did it well, strong, and seemingly from the heart.

Trump was more presidential than you'd expect for most of it. He also had more command and self-editing than I've ever seen with him. Of course the bar there is subterranean, but he was way above it for about 2/3rds of the action tonight. Trump with a 10-8 first round, middle rounds to Biden, late rounds to Trump. Biden just has a problem. He's spent decades reversing the aging process appearance with cosmetic surgeries and hair grafts, and the joke is now on his party.

Trump of course has a lot of points that should make him unelectable, but that ain't the way the electorate sees it. What an abomination that these are the choices .... apparently. And I do mean apparently. Newsom, Hillary, Whitmer, Michelle and others would make it much more delicious.

The two term amendment says that he can't be elected president, but nothing about becoming president under any other circumstances, and nothing about running for VP.

The relevant VP passage says that the VP must be eligible to hold the presidency, not to be elected to it.

A 2 term president is not permitted to hold any office that is in the presidential line of succession

The very last line of the 12th Amendment reads: But no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States.

Correct

This is why the debate was risky, even if biden is behind. It really would be a mess to push out Biden, bypass Kamala and bring in newsome. There is going to be a significant minority of dem voters put off by that forced transformation and more will elect to sit out favoring trump.

I work with people that confirm that skipping over Kamala at this point means small voter turnout

Where do you see that?

by metsandfinsfan P

The very last line of the 12th Amendment reads: But no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States.

Correct. But according to the 22nd amendment, Obama is only ineligible to be elected president, not to hold the office of President.

Id love for michelle to run and I agree with mets, they did this on purpose

RFKjr is always an option as a 3rd party candidate. He’s way more two clowns. He’s in way better physical condition than these guys.
