2024 WSOP!

The World Series of Poker has wrapped up its newest winter series and is announcing new details for the 2024 summer event in Las Vegas.

“…..Ty Stewart, SVP and Executive Director of the World Series of Poker. “But it’s time to turn the page and begin the countdown to 2024. Records are made to be broken. We’re busy on improvements to make sure 2024 is both the biggest and best event in poker history. Mark your calendars and bank those vacation days. We’ll see you in Vegas.”

The 2024 WSOP will take place at Horseshoe Las Vegas and Paris Las Vegas from May 28 to July 17, 2024, with the Main Event running from July 3 to July 17. The Main Event – poker’s undisputed freezeout world championship – will have four starting days, beginning on Wednesday, July 3. Players may also register directly on Day 2 on July 7 and 8.

The full daily event schedule for the 55th annual WSOP will be announced in early 2024. Fan favorites, including the Mystery Millions, Millionaire Maker, and the Senior’s Championship, will return to the schedule in 2024. …..”

Good post on X from player/YouTuber named Derek Kwan (@Kwansfull), about wsop attendance. MM and MS specific with some additional analysis on other events in the same thread later.

He was responding to a post by wsop in X about records being broken in ‘24.

The numbers are interesting, but interpreting them is really tricky, given some of the pretty significant macroeconomic factors at play. As others have stated, the pandemic effects were extreme, and I don't think we'll see the true end of them until next year at the earliest. Obviously 2021 was a total aberration, but as we saw throughout the travel industry, the pent-up demand resulted in a pretty big swing the other direction, and now this year we're seeing the delayed impact of a couple years of worldwide inflation. How much those factors have influenced turnout at the WSOP vs. the particulars of the schedule? Really hard to say without access to more data, at the very least the number of unique players and domestic vs. international players. It'd be great if WSOP shared even just the grand total of unique players for the series.

Paris hotel is kinda nasty. I played Salute to the Warriors a few days ago and there was a massive coach roach running around the men’s bathroom. It was like the size of a mouse.

I have some questions about late regging the ME. Plan is to register for Day 2D of the main; I'll arrive the night before and get my ticket then.

Then I believe there is a late reg line that we line up in, and as players bust, late reg players get those seats? What time would be recommended to start lining up, if say I'm hoping to get seated within the first hour of the first level?

You want to sign up early for late reg?

You want to sign up early for late reg?

Isn't that the smartest way to do it? If I pay my entry fee the morning of Day 2D, I assume there will be a longer line to register than if I do so at 8 p.m. the night before.

Then there's basically a second line where you are waiting for people to bust so that you can get your seat. So I'm taking waiting in two lines and taking care of the first line at night when it's shorter.

But this is also why I'm asking - I'm not entirely clear on the best way to do all this. I haven't been to the WSOP since 2017 when the ME late reg didn't exist and late reg was much less of a thing used.

WSOP has done a good job so far this year but seems it has reached capacity today.

Long "late"/alrernate reg line today for the Mini Main that's not moving since not enough tables/dealers.

Mini main was a **** show last year because of all the other low buy in events held around it. Just too many similar events in a short period of time.

Not 100% sure but I'm pretty sure they leave some open seats on the tables on Day 2 to fill in with late registrants. I don't think you are standing there twiddling your thumbs waiting for people to bust to get a seat.

How have the tourneys so far compared to previous years in terms of field sizes?

another update, now after 78 events WSOP numbers are up 0.92% from last year with 174,000 entries vs 172,000 for events that were played the year before. 99 events in 2024 vs 95 in 2023. If you count all events then up 3.36% or 178,000 vs 172000. Numbers have picked up in the last week, so that bodes well for main event turnout which I thought would be under 10,000 but now feel it might set yet another 10,043+ record.

Once you have your late reg ticket, you must be in the late reg line by 4:40 pm July 8 or you will be refunded. Day 2D starts at 12 noon. There should be NO wait to get a seat on day 2D if you have a late reg ticket as there will be plenty of tables and dealers. They likely will just pull big blinds from tables to form new tables and fill the empty slots with the late reg people. That way the late reg people do not all sit at the same new tables.

What’s up with several players in the PLO 50k wearing Maga hats? Especially strange from foreigners. Is it a form of a bet?

This is not how it works for this event.

Hey all,

For those wondering about the Landmark sattys, I can tell you about my experience yesterday in the 4pm $580 for main event seats. I haven't been to the WSOP since 2021 and was unsure if I would like the new format. There were 378 players with 18 main event seats available and 9K in cash for 19th place. Since 1 of every 20 players wins a seat, the Landmark was 20X the starting stack of 10K, so once someone hits 200K in chips they win a seat and the chips are removed from play. The first Landmark was hit with 36 players left, and when I hit mine I was the 8th one, and at that point there were 25 players left with 10 more seats available plus the 19th place cash for 9K.

As far as the play went, there was definitely more action in the later stages. Previously the big stacks didn't get involved much as they waited for knockouts to make the final batch of survivors. It's still somewhat of an all in fest as the shorter stacks try to double up and stay alive, but now the bigger stacks try to make that final push to break the 200K chip stack when they get within range.

The floor did say that if there were not enough chips left for someone to hit 200K for the last seat, it would be played out survival style.

Overall I did like the new format. The only oddity I can see is the scenario where the last payout is awarded with 2 players left leaving one person who lasted the longest with nothing. I guess they could still chop though.

Update, I talked to wsop staff. They said the wait in late reg line day 2 will likely be short. They will seat some day 2 tables with 8 players so the holes will be filled by late reg players. Pulling big blinds is possibly but not the first choice on how to seat late reg players.

Yet today's 800, plenty of space and no waitlists, smaller field. Same structure and smaller pricepoint. People really get tricked by the name and starting chips.

Not quite the same structure, but your point is taken. Also today is 1A of the ME

there is something wrong…. The target stack cant be 100k in chips.

They fixed it in person, its 20x stack to get to 200k. As usual, replacing it online takes forever.

Thanks for the info!

Did anyone here use the cashier check option to fund their account? That seems like an easy option, but I wanted to make sure I have all the steps correct so please correct me if I’m wrong:

Get cashier check from my bank made out to Paris Las Vegas hotel and casino
Give check to normal WSOP cage (with my ID)
Register for events online (even after they start?) via the brovo app
Print card at one of those machines in the WSOP area

I already have a ceasers card and a bravo app account so I should be good after those 4 steps, right?

Don't they hold the check for awhile? If you expect to be able to play after handing it to them you may be in for a disappointment.

Well ****, that was the plan.

I was going through the process of setting up a payfiniti account but didn’t feel comfortable giving them my full SSN so I guess my options are pay for events as I go with a credit card (3% fee) or bring cash.

Those are the only 2 options if I don’t want to give PayFiniti my SSN and don’t have time to hand the cage a cashiers check and wait a business day or more, correct? I was hoping I could wire or ACH the WSOP cage money but it says to go through bravo and bravo says go through PayFiniti.

Are you coming from another country? If not, why not just use cash?

I’m in the US. I’m just not a fan of traveling with that much cash. Last year I think I brought 2/3 of what I wanted and then increased my ATM limit for the rest. I just think it’s crazy the WSOP can’t figure out a way to ach/wire money to their own casino instead of a 3rd party I’ve never heard of.

I haven’t tried this, and maybe you have to have a certain gaming rating, but I imagine you could wire money to the casino cage and then withdraw cash there. Not sure of any fees, but it can’t be worse than the atm fees they charge nowadays.
