the idea that there is a singular "best" person for a job is so dumb.

In every army course there is a Top Candidate, runner-up, and maybe a third place depending on class size.

Then the rest are divided into top third, middle third, bottom third.

I assume there's a similar process for police courses, and secret service courses.

And people go on a number of courses throughout their career. And all these records are saved. You can look at a 10 year veteran and see how they did on basic training, their trade qualification, and a number of other specialized courses. there are also quarterly reviews. so there's a lot of data to separate the wheat from the chaff.

it's like for any job. you get a number of applicants, you look at their qualifications, conduct interviews and hire the person you think will be best for the job. of course if you're hiring 10 people, and you are required to hire at least 30% females, you may not necessarily be able to hire the 10 best people you believe to be best for the job.

USSS DIRECTOR: SNIPERS WEREN'T ON THE ROOF BECAUSE IT’S SLOPED

USSS Director Kim Cheatle on why there weren’t snipers on the roof from which Trump was shot:

"That building in particular has a sloped roof at its highest point.

And so, you know, there's a safety factor that would be considered there that we wouldn't want to put somebody up on a sloped roof.

And so, you know, the decision was made to secure the building, from inside."

safety first

I mean, horsenut quite obviously has a point there. Obviously, some people are going to be better candidates than others, and this goes for any job. And of those, some will be the best. This seems like a silly hill to die on.

as long as they aren't women

This is just silly. There's plenty to rake this guy over hot coals over. This isn't one of those things.

why not?

Its bigotry literally lifted from the textbook. Quite a teachable moment for any reasonable human bean with a modicum of introspection and empathy.

Like, its not even debatable. Creating a fantasy scenario where a woman is a DEI hire so that you can lambast the woman, the org, and the hiring process is objectively bigotry

And yeah, Housenuts is on the record as calling Harris a DEI hire. So we've seen this before from him

Dude, he is criticising the agent in the picture who is ducking instead of covering the target. The DEI stuff all came after you guys piled on to him claiming he was criticising her because she is a woman.

I didn't know his comments about Harris, I was just going by what I've seen ITT.

by housenuts P

The Secret Service Director said it herself.

"I'm very conscious as I sit in this chair now, of making sure that we need to attract diverse candidates and ensure that we are developing and giving opportunities to everybody in our workforce, and particularly women," Cheatle said.

Rather than hiring the best candidates for the job, she wants to hire a diverse work force. Reap what you sow I guess.

Most people would say that attracting more candidates increases the chances of finding the best candidates.

"He wiggled his way into this corner after you guys engaged his talking points" (aka had a conversation)

Not exactly blowing me away with this one

And what happened in reality?

He said that creating quotas means you don't always hire the most qualified candidate. In and of itself, I agree with this POV. In fact, it seems rather self-evident to me, but I'm prepared to be persuaded otherwise.

And as Trolly pointed out the quote literally talks about attracting candidates. There is nothing there that mentions quotas or making compromises.

Maybe you can learn something from this too.

Ok, if it's just about attracting candidates and there are no hiring quotas involved, I stand corrected on that point. I still disagree with the point "it's silly to say that there is a best candidate for a job", which is what I originally objected to.

i guess i should have provided a better quote. she stated the secret service wants to hire 30% female by 2030

Silly me for reading what was posted instead of whatever damning quote this guy meant to post.

You might be shocked to learn that the 30x30 initiative is not some half cocked secret service initiative but is a nation wide initiative meant to fix the image issue law enforcement in the US suffers from currently supported by "more than 240 law enforcement agencies"

So, there are plenty of examples of people acting less than heroic in the face of danger. Off the top of my head I can think of the security guard at the florida school shooting and the guy in charge at uvalde. However, there isn't any discussion of how women can't do the job or DEI. There's a double standard here.

There is a consistency with all the shootings though. Someone that shouldn't have access to a high powered assault rifle got access to a high powered assault rifle.

From what I remember, the both the Florida guy and the Uvalde cops caught a lot of ****, so I'm not seeing the double standard.

Obvs agree re: gun control point.

In April 2021, before Cheatle was appointed director, women outnumbered men for the first time in the graduating Special Agent Training Class. Still, women comprise just 24% of the agency’s total workforce of over 7,500 employees.

So you are telling me that this director wants to increase female representation by a resounding.... 6% in the next 6 years? Clearly they are gutting the foundation of the service to make all these DEI hires.

This tends to be what happens when I spend more than 3 seconds regurgitating a headline btw.

Also, the Secret Service does a lot more than just protect VIPs. They investigate financial crime, in particular counterfeiting and identity theft.

I also called out the Uvalde cops in either this thread or the other one.

The wokeism is really frustrating to deal with.

You call out a white male for doing a bad job, everyone applauds and agrees with you.
You call out a female or a black person for doing a bad job, and the woke left calls you racist and a bigot.

Let's try to be a little more reasonable.

by coordi P

For all you know she was top of her class in "throwing body in front of president" and "holstering weapon under duress"

Thats kind of the point of calling all this bigotry, but I wouldn't expect you guys to understand the nuance there

given all the inherit physical advantages men have, do you think there's even a 1% of that being true?

There were like 20 officers who actively watched the shooter set up for 20 minutes where if they did their job she wouldn't have been in that position.

Its telling that you single her out.

Its telling that you called Harris a DEI hire.

When a pattern emerges you can't blame people for noticing.
