The costs of trans visibility
Yesterday, Dylan Mulvaney broke her silence: https://www.tiktok.com/@dylanmulvaney/vi....
For context, this is a trans influencer who built a 10 million strong following on TikTok. She took a brand deal with budweiser to post an ad on an instagram, and the anti-trans right went absolutely ballistic, calling for a boycott, condemning the company, and to some perhaps unknowable degree it influenced that Budweiser sales dropped by a 1/4 and
. Dylan speaks more personally about the effect of the hatred on her. What strikes me about this story is that it is just about visibility. This isn't inclusion in sports or gender-affirming care for minors, it was just that a trans person was visible. This wasn't even visibility in a TV commerical that a poor right-winger is forced to see, it was an ad on her own instagram page. We're all in our own social media algorithm influenced bubbles, but from my vantage point it really has seemed that in the last year or so things have just gotten worse for trans people and the backlash to even minor visibility is growing.
We need to do better.

Well the issue of social contagion in general is not made up though. Also tbh the societal and individual impacts of someone being socially conditioned into thinking they are gay will never be that bad. The worst that can happen is you have some unenjoyable sex and realize it’s not for you. The impacts of someone transitioning without actually being trans could be devastating, both to the person and for trans rights itself.
I know, I know, the regret rate has been shown to be incredibly low, but we have to be careful with taking past studies of trans regret rate and grafting them onto the period of time where social acceptance was at a fever pitch. And we definitely don’t want doctors rushing into things on the medical side.
That being said, if we can all just acknowledge that sometimes people do silly gender experiments and just normalize that over actually calling themselves trans, I think we will create an outlet for people to try before they buy so to speak without placing themselves in the “detrans” category. On that front, I’m very much against the normativity surrounding gender that states that a cis man getting in a dress is creepy, mocking, and wrong. Or that wanting to use different pronouns is mental illness. I think if the stakes around these experiments were lower, we would see the transsexual rate return to just above the historical figures which would be a drop off from what we are seeing now.
Nobody just decides they are trans one day and gets surgery in short order. That isn't how the system works. If there are doctors who supported that then they are quacks and should lose their license.
Giving any sort of credibility to the idea that people can be tricked into thinking they are a trans person when they really aren't is generally just harmful. It doesn't happen. Its a boogeyman used to scare boomers into thinking their children are going to catch the trans from some libral grade school teacher with no kids of her own. Its the type of **** Elon Musk uses to garner sympathy from morons while his trans child calls him an awful absentee parent
Maybe take a moment to reflect
Except homosexuality never had a massive spike coinciding with the majority of youth growing out of it on their own
It's amazing to see how these discussions completely melt your mind. Like this has been explained to you repeatedly and you still blurt out this nonsense
other than the fact that studies show the majority of youth phase out of their dysphoria which is cited by the specialized experts in europe leading to them changing policy, you make a great point
Three years ago, Davidson became the second transgender player to compete in LPGA Q-School, where she did not advance past the first stage. She tried again in 2022, missing the 54-hole cut by a single stroke.
This time around, Davidson tied for 42nd at Mission Hills Country Club with rounds of 72-72-69-71 to finish at 4 under.
Now the question becomes; are trans athletes allowed to improve?
I have no idea what you think this tweet has to do with the two statements that I made. If you could explain that to me, I would be very happy to reflect on those statements but as it stands I don’t see the relevance.
italians were gay before it was cool
leonardo, liberace, versace, berlusconi, mussolini, et al
I am totally in agreement that anti-trans people abuse the problems with the system as rhetorical devices, but I think we can only reject their fear-mongering so long as we also reject gender abolition and gender self-identification. What you said is very important: people that are not acting responsibly when recommending social and sex transition are quacks that don’t deserve to practice medicine. Which is a separate issue to whether some trans people are affected by a type of social contagion. For the most part I think you are absolutely correct that there are enough barriers that the vast majority people who are not trans won’t ever seek gender treatment, but we need to constantly audit whether the controls we have on such a problem are effective.
I’m not anti-trans, so I am definitely OK with at least some small percentage of people transitioning that later regret transitioning. But we need to make sure that percentage doesn’t get too high or we are are creating a treatment plan that does more harm than good, especially if we find that the treatment isn’t particularly effective even with those that do need it. Which I’m not claiming is the case, but that’s yet another complicated factor to consider.
I’m never going to throw trans people under the bus to do so, in fact in my view I’m trying to make the strongest possible argument to protect trans people. Not that you necessarily care about my motivations, just putting it out there.
first would be to maybe think about who and what is actually making fun of women's sports, the second would be to not demonstrate you completely miss the point(s)
and weren’t the ones constantly making fun of women’s sports 5 years ago.
I don't watch womens sports. I love sports but I can't sit through jr high level competition when there's endless entertainment. Women's golf and tennis is decent but I'm still never going to be a fan. This isn't me pretending I have a raging passion for womens sports. I happen to have a decent understanding of the human experience and at least an average moral compass which is why if find all this nonsense repulsive
Now I’m legitimately curious, what exactly do you think is the crossover between people who would never watch women’s sports and people who think trans women are just men putting on dresses to try to get glory in women’s sports?
I think being anti-trans is an amazing predictor for never watching women’s sports, but I could be wrong about that.
Edit:
I posted this before your edit but that’s actually hilarious that my prediction was borne out in real time
Both men and women are allowed to improve. Thanks for clarifying this topic hasn't completely melted your mind. Like yes a div 2 golfer in the mens div is now on the tour and swimmers ranked in the hundreds w/ men taking gold vs women is a story of improvement. incredible
I have no idea how any of this could somehow be twisted in to something clever. Like yeah theres also a correlation between ice cream consumption and shark attacks therefore -insert lol theory
I just spelled this out for you
You think it's contagious?
(I have three boys myself between the ages of 9 and 3, and they have a trans friend who's 7. Somehow my kids are very in tune with their penises, nonetheless.)
This is such a silly way of using correlation is not causation, especially since I would absolutely agree that there is probably a third factor that is the cause of both positions. The point isn’t that being anti-trans causes you to hate women’s sports or vice versa so you actually have zero point whatsoever if that’s your point.
All I’m pointing out is that it’s utterly ridiculous and clearly a cynical use of a wedge issue for the people that probably would probably have no problem for women’s sports to be abolished to be crying about trans women in sports.
I say that as someone who thinks people who went through a male puberty shouldn’t compete in women’s sports and also thinks women’s sports is generally a good thing.
What are you smoking?
again, this is my point. It is incredibly clear
yeah but like i think i've said this enough before you came up with your theories, mind reads, and witchcraft. But again, let me be clear
Worth considering
4 out of 5 kids who question gender ‘grow out of it’: Transgender expert
A psychiatrist who has presided over youth gender transition treatments for more than a decade says “four out of five” gender-questioning children eventually accept their bodies if no medical interventions are carried out.
Dr. Riittakerttu Kaltiala — described as “Finland’s leading expert on pediatric gender medicine and chief psychiatrist at its largest gender clinic” — made the claim in an interview with the liberal newspaper Helsingin Sanomat earlier this week, according to Tablet. The doctor said data from 12 separate studies supported her claim.
OK
They're not misgendering people. That's a man pretending to be a woman playing golf. Not sure when Riley Gaines was making fun of herself but you should
It could've been true. I think that's the real satire here. That your side has gone so far that a new sexual orientation such as demibisexual could actually be a real thing.
I watch women's sports quite a lot tbh. Also not a Trump supporter but 100% support that women sports should be for women only. Not for men masquerading as women.
Well that proves it. The Horror his boys aren't trans even though they hang out with a trans aged 7(yeah right) so therefore social contagion isn't a thing.
/thread.
I’d love to know which poster here I allegedly attacked personally. I’ve been nothing but civil while being called names and attacked (both openly and behind the scenes).
Anyhow, for those of you who question the social contagion theory, what are your thoughts on Dr Erica Anderson, one of the leading authorities in gender dysphoria saying, “I think it’s gone too far.” She’s come to believe that some children identifying as trans are falling under the influence of their peers and social media.
Wtf is a trans 7 yr old
Wtf is social contagion? Sounds like some commie non freedom bullshit
Ok I can see the delulu here.
Is this an attempt at irony or are you actually claiming a 7 years old can be trans?
Again, if you at least made a small effort to hide that you hate trans women with a passion, people would probably take your position on trans women playing in sports more seriously.
I watch women's sports quite a lot tbh. Also not a Trump supporter but 100% support that women sports should be for women only. Not for men masquerading as women.
Do you have any reading comprehension whatsoever?
Have exactly 0 hate towards any human being. Quite frankly couldn't care less about them or you for that matter.

No irony. That person genuinely believes his 3 boys have a 7 year old trans friend.
