[WPT Global] Official Thread

Hi 2+2ers,

Welcome to the official WPT Global thread!

WPT Global is the real-money online poker business of the World Poker Tour, and we’re about to celebrate our two-year anniversary, having launched in April 2022. After such a short time, we’re already the third-largest online poker room in the world (ranked by PokerScout.com, based on cash game traffic).

We’re joining TwoPlusTwo to share information with you, engage with the community, and answer any questions you might have.

WPT Global is special for a few reasons:

 • Our modern platform has been built from the beginning to leverage AI technology. We use this in two main ways. The first is to protect the games by detecting collusion, bot use, RTA use and other forms of cheating extremely quickly. We have the best Game Integrity tech I’ve experienced in my 19 years in the industry, and a team of around 50 people using it.

 • The second way we utilise AI technology is in managing our ecology. We ensure that games are sustainable and beatable by reserving seats in every game for casual players and limiting the number of seats per table that can be occupied by highly skilled professionals. I’ll go into more detail on this point later, in the below FAQ, but the net result is - we have the softest cash games you’ll find online, and typical win-rates for regs are 5-10x higher than elsewhere. (If you don't’ believe me, just try them and see for yourself).

 • We have had a large liquidity pool from the very beginning, especially in cash games. This is because we partnered with a couple of successful Asia-facing poker rooms to bootstrap their liquidity. Most poker startups face an enormous challenge in growing their liquidity from scratch - this solution allowed us to launch with cash games running 24/7 and it contributes to our soft player pool. Now, WPT Global is a large poker site in its own right and less dependent on the Asia liquidity, and we’re growing our games in US Dollars all the time.

 • There is enormous value on offer - our explicit aim is to pay back more to players via promotions and giveaways than any other site. Check out our current promotions here.

 • Global Spins is our unique twist on the Jackpot SNG concept, with a progressive jackpot and the lowest rake in the industry (5%).

 • As part of the World Poker Tour family, we’re the best place to qualify for WPT events around the world, like the WPT World Championship at the Wynn later this year.

Some of you might remember me and my colleague WPT Global Peter from our previous roles. Many years ago, I was one of the first site representatives ever to engage with the 2+2 community, as the first PokerStars representative in the ‘PokerStars Software Improvement Thread’. Later, Peter and I ran the ‘Official MPN - Microgaming Poker Network...’. You can expect a similar level of transparency and responsiveness here. While I don’t promise to respond to every single thing, no constructive question or criticism is off limits.

I look forward to engaging with you all!

All the best,

Alex Scott

FAQ

You can also read a more general FAQ on our website, here.

What countries is WPT Global available in?

Currently, we have a .com licence and have not entered any regulated markets (although we will start to do so later this year). We’re open to most markets that have yet to regulate, including Canada (except Ontario), Ireland, New Zealand and most of Latin America, Asia and Africa.

We don’t (yet) accept players from the US, UK, Australia, Russia, and most of Europe. If you’re from one of these countries and want to qualify for WPT events then Club WPT might work for you!

See our Terms and Conditions (section 2.5) for more detailed information.

How does the ecology management system work? Do you ban winners from playing at WPT Global?

Our ecology management system is specifically designed so that we can run sustainable games without having to penalise winners.

In cash games, our AI technology measures the skill level of every player and predicts their win rate. The model is highly accurate and continually updates so that it cannot be abused or ‘gamed’.

We reserve a number of seats at each cash game table for players that fall into one of our ‘casual player’ categories. In our most popular game (8-Handed NLHE with an ante and a straddle) we reserve six of the eight seats for casual players, which effectively means that highly-skilled pros can only occupy two seats.

Because there is plenty of liquidity, if you find yourself categorised as a pro, you can still always find a game to play at any stake, and you can guarantee yourself a seat in a great game if you start a table, since our ecology management system ensures that only one other pro can sit with you.

The system does not categorise players by their actual win rate, but by how skilled they are. If you have a great run of luck, you will not necessarily be categorised as a pro, and vice versa, you will not necessarily be categorised as a casual player if you run bad.

We find that once players get used to the system, they love it. Both pros and beginners have a better experience because we eliminate some of the common predatory behaviour that occurs elsewhere, and pros can achieve significantly higher win rates. I encourage you to give it a try!

What’s with the games in CNY currency?

Because we partnered with Asia-facing poker rooms to launch, some of our games are in Chinese Yuan (CNY) currency. At the time of writing, the exchange rate to the dollar is about 7.25 CNY to the USD. As we’ve become less dependent on the Asian liquidity we have introduced more USD games. Most cash games and all tournaments including Global Spins are now available in USD, and for those of you that want to play in the CNY games, there’s a handy currency converter in the lobby, and the ability to change the stacks to BB.

This is not a bug, they use the feature "table change" and move to the new table with empty seats, but they cannot sit because your "fair game", the same when they see table with 1 player, then they open table, but during that time 1 more player sit down then he cannot sit anymore because of the "fair game". He can only sit on the table when that table appear on his lobby.

P/s: I just explain why and not criticize "fair game".

No, it's a bug, this has nothing to do with the fair game system. You are supposed to be always be able to sit headsup or as a third player even if your tagged pro.
Also happen's only at 10/20/40 for me
sometimes I can't even sit an empty table because of that bug.

Alex, this bug has been happening for over 3 months btw and reported many times here - WPT is very slow at fixing this.

I’ll be honest I’m super confused at the decision to remove rakeback to regs, rake was already super high in bb/100 yet the site was growing very quickly

now you guys choose to shoot yourself in the foot for (hopefully) short term profit? it is such an incredibly greedy decision this is beyond me

by Thuylinh296 P

But the problem is there are 2 players sat at the table before player C(but they never play even 1 hand or play against each other), so does C get the rakeback for opening the table? I understood that if player A and B played even 1 hand, player C will get nothing but here they never play, just sit and leave.

My understanding is that yes, Player C will get rakeback here (since you specify that Player A / B left the table). I am not 100% sure what would happen if they didn't leave the table and just didn't play a hand, but will try to find out

Not shooting at you here but now knowing this when it's 100% obvious that it should be show's how unorganized WPT team is and how bad the software is regarding this kind of stuff.

I think you guys should work on fixing all the basic issues on the site before adding additional stuff that your team in unsure of.

Reduce the rake 2-4handed to give a chance for regulars that really wants to play and get games going.

I find it very hypocrit that you guys are raking a ridiculous amount 2-4 handed knowing it's not sustainable while saying that you want to promote starting games.

It's either you accept everyone will bumhunt heavily on your site and be predatory around whales or you make the games beatable for regulars.

If your promotion is that the first two players to start the games get 20% rakeback on the table - don't you think those two players should play rake free as well ?

Alex, at 6max you can see some tables and some not. why is this? the other day a rec was playing a reg and I tried sitting, didnt allow me, and then another reg was able to sit. while I was still unable to. and AFter I couldnt even find the table on the lobby. why does this happen?

you will most likely be categorized as a professional and will have restricted access to most of the games when another reg with a fish is already playing.

This will be due to the fact the other reg has somehow cheated the fair play system, and is marked as a VIP

by joako21 P

but they say it shouldnt work that way...

I have screen shots on my phone I will post them later, many times Im not allowed to play HU and its not a bug for a certain stake because its on diferent stake... also I have seen many tables with 4 or even 6 recreationals and Im not allowed to play, but at the same time Im allowed to play with 5 regs on other table...

also the other day I was about to sit 3 handed wiht a reg and a recreational, and one recreational beat me for the sit and suddenly I wasnt allowed to play... that guy just cant be tagged as a HSP he was a 40/5 or something like that...

so clearly the software dont work the way they are saying

Hello Alex,

I’m curious about the affiliate commission changes and have two Questions

1. Are there now cases where regs, who aren’t tagged as High-Skilled but have a solid win rate (e.g., 10 big blinds per 100 hands), end up earning more than pros? These pros might have higher winrate but no longer receive the 40% rakeback. If so, doesn’t this go against your intentions?

2. Additionally, wouldn’t it make sense for High-Skilled Players to widen their preflop range slightly to avoid detection, while still dominating postflop?

Hi Alex

After the day wpt stop paying affiliate commission for HSP, so many reg create new accounts and play. I can easily recognize them (through their play style, their playing time and of course the way they bum hunt) because I battle against them everyday. Some of them try to avoid AI detection by playing at micro and mid stake at the same time (they go all in with any two cards at micro table to fake stats too). Can your AI detects them? And do you have any plans to stop this problem? I try to report them through customercare@wptglobal.com but nothing happens. Please check these accounts, some of them may have the same IP with their old accounts: mrblue1986 (kemsu01), brave88 (kitmepro88), Latini68 (Nina218). Hope to see new improvements in our games.

Thank you!

Our final day of the Summer Festival is a big one with over $2,000,000 GTD! Some more flights will run for our multi day events, before the Day 2s start. Listed below are the larger feeders that will run today (and there are many feeders to most of these too). You can begin to qualify for our $1,000,000 GTD $3.5K WPT Championship for $0.11!

I got a ticket for the 220 championship that was given me as a present I guess, I didnt receive any mail or communication via client. Unfortunately there are no flights anymore, can it be converted to another ticket please?

There is a flight currently running for the $220 Summer Festival Championship and it can be used for that

No, there was one more flight

We're making a couple of changes that will be interesting for many of you posting in this thread, effective today.

1. Table Starter cashback is being increased to 40% for High Stakes games (everything in the high stakes tab of the client, which is 100/200/400 bomb CNY and 25/50/100 USD and higher).

2. Affiliate commission is being made more generous - details will be shared with all affiliates this week.

2. Additionally, wouldn’t it make sense for High-Skilled Players to widen

1. I suppose that is possible in theory, if such a player has a rakeback deal through an affiliate, but such cases would be pretty rare.

2. No, this wouldn't help them to avoid detection.

the 40% Table starter in HS is such a niche pool compared to 95% of the player pool. nonetheless this is a great start in revoking some of the changes.

Thanks Alex

Why do you guys insist on making the same mistakes that killed so many other poker platforms only to then ''fix'' the problem a month later?

Then here come Wpt global, ghost town with all 1/8 2/8 table.

No game almost have been running at those stakes sincd the changes.

Sadly, this change wont do much.

Yeah, I dont get this. Why don't they focus their business on majority of their customers? (i.e. Low to Mid-stakes cash grinders) Its so confusing how, they're pouring money into parts of the platform that majority of the players don't know or care at all. The Festival for example was a huge L for them, I checked the overlay for the 3.5k ME they lost a cool 236k pre rake and post rake still lost 170k. Same went for the $220 PKO lost 55k post rake with all the overlays.

Poorly ran company who thinks they need to reinvent the wheel when all they had to do is learn from the mistakes made by literally everyone before them.

The only person happy about this change at highstakes are the 1-3 crushers that hold the lobby.

Nobody will play them even with 40% RB
When a fish join the crusher get 40% RB and rest of the table Nothing

Haha incredible useless decision by wpt.

Even the the current table starter crap is a joke, they forcing regs to either HU each other, play tables with no RB or have like 10 empty tables open sitted. It sucks because us grinders want to put hours in and when i look at the lobby with 5 tables all 1/8, I just want to close the app because I don't want to get rape in rake playing a reg HU or be the 6th guy sitting there and wait hours to fire one table.
