[WPT Global] Official Thread

Hi 2+2ers,

Welcome to the official WPT Global thread!

WPT Global is the real-money online poker business of the World Poker Tour, and we’re about to celebrate our two-year anniversary, having launched in April 2022. After such a short time, we’re already the third-largest online poker room in the world (ranked by PokerScout.com, based on cash game traffic).

We’re joining TwoPlusTwo to share information with you, engage with the community, and answer any questions you might have.

WPT Global is special for a few reasons:

  • Our modern platform has been built from the beginning to leverage AI technology. We use this in two main ways. The first is to protect the games by detecting collusion, bot use, RTA use and other forms of cheating extremely quickly. We have the best Game Integrity tech I’ve experienced in my 19 years in the industry, and a team of around 50 people using it.

  • The second way we utilise AI technology is in managing our ecology. We ensure that games are sustainable and beatable by reserving seats in every game for casual players and limiting the number of seats per table that can be occupied by highly skilled professionals. I’ll go into more detail on this point later, in the below FAQ, but the net result is - we have the softest cash games you’ll find online, and typical win-rates for regs are 5-10x higher than elsewhere. (If you don't’ believe me, just try them and see for yourself).

  • We have had a large liquidity pool from the very beginning, especially in cash games. This is because we partnered with a couple of successful Asia-facing poker rooms to bootstrap their liquidity. Most poker startups face an enormous challenge in growing their liquidity from scratch - this solution allowed us to launch with cash games running 24/7 and it contributes to our soft player pool. Now, WPT Global is a large poker site in its own right and less dependent on the Asia liquidity, and we’re growing our games in US Dollars all the time.

  • There is enormous value on offer - our explicit aim is to pay back more to players via promotions and giveaways than any other site. Check out our current promotions here.

  • Global Spins is our unique twist on the Jackpot SNG concept, with a progressive jackpot and the lowest rake in the industry (5%).

  • As part of the World Poker Tour family, we’re the best place to qualify for WPT events around the world, like the WPT World Championship at the Wynn later this year.

Some of you might remember me and my colleague WPT Global Peter from our previous roles. Many years ago, I was one of the first site representatives ever to engage with the 2+2 community, as the first PokerStars representative in the ‘PokerStars Software Improvement Thread’. Later, Peter and I ran the ‘Official MPN - Microgaming Poker Network...’. You can expect a similar level of transparency and responsiveness here. While I don’t promise to respond to every single thing, no constructive question or criticism is off limits.

I look forward to engaging with you all!

All the best,

Alex Scott

FAQ

You can also read a more general FAQ on our website, here.

What countries is WPT Global available in?

Currently, we have a .com licence and have not entered any regulated markets (although we will start to do so later this year). We’re open to most markets that have yet to regulate, including Canada (except Ontario), Ireland, New Zealand and most of Latin America, Asia and Africa.

We don’t (yet) accept players from the US, UK, Australia, Russia, and most of Europe. If you’re from one of these countries and want to qualify for WPT events then Club WPT might work for you!

See our Terms and Conditions (section 2.5) for more detailed information.

How does the ecology management system work? Do you ban winners from playing at WPT Global?

Our ecology management system is specifically designed so that we can run sustainable games without having to penalise winners.

In cash games, our AI technology measures the skill level of every player and predicts their win rate. The model is highly accurate and continually updates so that it cannot be abused or ‘gamed’.

We reserve a number of seats at each cash game table for players that fall into one of our ‘casual player’ categories. In our most popular game (8-Handed NLHE with an ante and a straddle) we reserve six of the eight seats for casual players, which effectively means that highly-skilled pros can only occupy two seats.

Because there is plenty of liquidity, if you find yourself categorised as a pro, you can still always find a game to play at any stake, and you can guarantee yourself a seat in a great game if you start a table, since our ecology management system ensures that only one other pro can sit with you.

The system does not categorise players by their actual win rate, but by how skilled they are. If you have a great run of luck, you will not necessarily be categorised as a pro, and vice versa, you will not necessarily be categorised as a casual player if you run bad.

We find that once players get used to the system, they love it. Both pros and beginners have a better experience because we eliminate some of the common predatory behaviour that occurs elsewhere, and pros can achieve significantly higher win rates. I encourage you to give it a try!

What’s with the games in CNY currency?

Because we partnered with Asia-facing poker rooms to launch, some of our games are in Chinese Yuan (CNY) currency. At the time of writing, the exchange rate to the dollar is about 7.25 CNY to the USD. As we’ve become less dependent on the Asian liquidity we have introduced more USD games. Most cash games and all tournaments including Global Spins are now available in USD, and for those of you that want to play in the CNY games, there’s a handy currency converter in the lobby, and the ability to change the stacks to BB.

Good morning, Alex,

I understand that the community is currently dissatisfied with the recent changes. However, I believe we need to allow a few months to truly evaluate whether these changes will yield positive results.

I have a question and a suggestion regarding the rake.

Question: How do you plan to allocate the rake that will no longer be distributed to the players?

Suggestion: I suggest reconsidering the distribution of funds to affiliates. Instead of continuing to provide affiliates with a perpetual commission for referring players, it might be more beneficial to redirect a portion of this money to the players who actively spend time in the room. Perhaps setting a time or financial limit on affiliate commissions could ensure that more of the rakeback is awarded to the players themselves.

This is good advice, I saw in Vietnam many agent scams money from player(rakeback) or at least not transparent about rakeback.

Hi Alex, I was curious as to whether the decision makers have any idea what HU winrates look like? If they did they'd know that the regs starting tables and generating action for your site, are looking at a best case scenario winrate of around -15bb/100 (After the 20% rb). How can they possibly justify this?

Unfortunately this fix has been pushed to August. Nobody's more disappointed about this than me, believe me!

Hey Alex, any updates on this?

Screen recording is fine, screen sharing (e.g. Teamviewer) is not. Your best bet is Windows' free built-in screen recorder: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/...

Hello , Alex !
For safety purposes i decided to clarify once again that "screen recording is fine" with WPT Global support and their answer surprised me :
"The customer should not install any software so it cannot be detected by the security team because this may lead his account to be banned. But screen recording is fine you can do it using mobile phone only without installing any software" .

Do they suggest me to record my full poker session holding my phone in my hand and recording my monitor on phone's camera? . It's insanaly uncomfortable and my phone is connected to my PC all the time with mobile internet turned on. If my main internet goes down, i immediatelly switch to mobile internet in several clicks.

I use windows 10 and really don't want to upgrade to 11 , since when everything works fine it's best not to experiment and upgrade windows , because you never know what can go bad after this upgrade and how many programs will you have to reinstall\reconfigure.
Windows 10 have in-built recodring (windows key+alt+G) , but unfortunatelly, it can only record the whole screen ( which has 4k resulition in my case and will have huge file size in the end) .

I found this ( https://www.flashbackrecorder.com/ ) program for screen recording. It's free and , most imporatnly, it can record just a selected area of the screen and not the whole screen. I am allowed to use it ?

Of course it's fine. Use OBS studio it's much better.

Honestly whoever answers customercare for wpt are surprisingly ignorant about everything, it's always total nonsense and except answering fast it's always ******ed answers from them (they are just lost/incompetent)

Gamesecurity email support on the other hand is doing a good job from my experience

You should use OBS and streaming to Youtube(make it private), then you can watch again your poker season easily.

Hey Alex, any updates on this?

Not yet unfortunately, it's scheduled for the release after next so I suspect it will not be released for another few weeks. I share your disappointment, and I know that a lot of players are waiting for this upgrade, but obviously we can't release it until our team has worked out the kinks.

That's a strange answer, please let me know who responded and i'll follow up.

Any software that simply records the screen is fine. Sharing your screen is not. Windows 10 also has built in screen recording functionality: https://www.zdnet.com/article/how-to-scr...

Standard answer.

like 75% of the answers I get from customer care are pure non sense always. I usually get a good answer when it's forwarded eventually to the right team.

Whoever runs "customercare" need an extended training regarding the company's and how poker work's

Thanks for getting back to me Alex. Just regarding the burner accounts, I'll say the following:
(i) I think it would be helpful to check the winrates of existing regulars and recreationals (i.e. old accounts) and compare how they have performed over the last two months compared to out they have performed historically. Please filter for NL4k and NL2k. If you are looking at the entire pool irrespective of stakes, it will skew the results and I

Hi Alex, do you have any feedback on the above? Have there been any developments with regards to finding a solution for this? I still see on average about two of these burner accounts per table. Thanks.

More rake less RB is better?

Wptalex says a lot of these accounts are bonus abuser but i dont believe it, you need 10's of thousands of hands to unblock the welcome bonus and all these accounts that we see have a few hundreds hands and have all the latest players ID

the latest players id's are 6 884 000 and it will keep going, they gonna keep having the lastest ones as weeks and months goes on

by nofamily P

More rake less RB is better?

This makes no sense to increase rake in 50 100. Its not even listed as highstakes and RB is only 20% for table starters. And for those who join later they get absolutely rekt from 0 RB.

I am pretty sure that's the point. Nobody would make this system if they weren't trying to make sure everybody loses.

Is there an approximate date for a change to be made in the room so that our played hands can be downloaded?

lol, pure crooks.

Legit robbery. “Good news RB is now 40% for table starting in 100/200/400+ but we are increasing rake from 4% to 5% in 50 100 200+” the hell is this? 50 100 200 is the highest stake game that runs daily and they chose to increase rake yet kept everything the same.

Not sure if you saw but they also increased from 1 straddle to 1.5 straddle.

Probably a 60%~ rake increase.

You add the rakeback removed and its now what, a 200% rake increase in a few weeks?

CROOKS.

Alex,

Best rake, they mean...highest rake?

Or what do they really mean by "best" I'm very curious

As long as I’m concerned, in most of the platforms both online and live, the higher the stakes the lower the rake in terms of bb. Am I correct? Or am I just a silly one? Why is it opposite on this site where higher stakes have higher rake rate and also higher rake cap? I dont understand this. Can someone help me to clarify the logic behind this? Is it because people in higher stakes have bigger bankroll so they dont need to care about rake or something?

You are correct, it’s just greed. As you can tell from the past month, they’ve been cutting down rewards and now increasing rake even more.

Do other players use HUD on WPT, do you think? Even if it’s not allowed? Is it even possible? No handhistory is saved.

Is anyone else having problems with the betting bar? When I hit the raise button it goes straight to all-in.

Yes I can explain it very easily.

GREED
