ex-President Trump

I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?

So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at low-info Boomers like my religions aunts. I have two questions:

a) Is anyone here who supports Trump bothered by lies like this?

b) Does anyone know what he's even talking about here? Like is there some grain of truth that he's embellishing on bigly?

You should know the answer .
Freedom to do what I want with my money ?

outlaw the NEED for tips, i should have written better.

RN in the USA a waiter takes like $3 per hour or whatever, can't survive without tips, people know that so they tip and so on.

For the same money spent by customers you can increase prices, increase the wage, tips disappear (or become rare, same thing).

And democrats can mandate this by law if they think it's better. But they don't and they blame republicans (??)

afaik democrat controlled states can just raise the sector minwage as much as they want and in some sense outlaw tips (or at least, make them not so common anymore).

Why don't they all do it?

California essentially did this through the fast food wage increase. they increased minimum wage to 20 dollars at fast food chains that had at least 60 stores nationwide, and that was a tide that is raising all boats as they say. restaurants are getting creative to make sure they stay competitive by increasing wages/benefits in addition to just the tipped wages.

which is good, despite the "woe is me, i'm just a small boy that owns 4 mcdonalds franchises, what shall i do?." bullshit.

i feel like you've answered your own question already. hospitality donors are stronger forces than individual servers. i dont think any of us are in here arguing that either party is without fault. i'm sure there are lots of establishment dems taking big money from restaurant franchises to allow them to keep the exploitation rolling.

i don't know much about restaurant server unions and their strengths but i'm guessing outside of hotbed areas they aren't particularly strong.

While this is probably true in theory, it would take a very long time to shake out.

Also, I'm amazed you are in favor of minimum wage laws. What happened to FREEDOM?

I'm not sure how the government can stop me from leaving a $20 on the table if I want to.

very much in line with how i always pictured you

Trump making pre-emptive excuses for the possibility of losing.

The former president pre-emptively delegitimizes elections so he can rationalize defeats.
If he loses, he says, “I told you the democracy is rigged.” If he wins, he says,
“The fact that I overcame rampant cheating makes my victory all the more impressive."

The same applies to the courts. If he’s convicted, he says, “See? I was right all along.”
If he’s acquitted, he says, “My success was even more impressive given that I was up against a corrupt system.”

And now the model is being applied to debates.

This isn't really unique to Trump as perpetual victimhood and persecution is the cornerstone of modern US conservatism. He has just packaged and branded it with his gaudy logo.

The no or little tip culture in Europe is great

I am not in favor. I am saying that democrats should pass all their marvelous socialists laws in their states before asking for them federally.

I think it's borderline criminal for democrats to ask x federally if the totality of democrat controlled states didn't pass x tbh.

It should actually be illegal to have them federally (see commerce clause discussioms) but that's another topic

In theory, same way they can stop you from buying things they decide you shouldn't be allowed to buy.

The constitution doesn't prevent making paying tips a crime (just saying, not endorsing)

So just moving on and ignoring all the requests to provide any evidence at all for your claims about Snopes then?

In practice, how would this work? Spy cameras to make sure I didn't slip the waiter a hundo?

Why don't they all do it?

The west coast states plus Nevada do require tipped employees to be paid minimum wage, but it doesn't seem to have changed the tipping culture.

ok so why are we reading about massive increases in populism in the countries that have the biggest welfare state ever or close to it like France and Germany?

no college debt, public healthcare, a lot of vacation days, mandated maternity and paternity leave (mandated to employees as well lol, you have to take it at least a bit), all your socialist dreams come true and...

Le pen gets 31% of the vote. and the "left alliance" , those to the left

I don't know really. I agree that populism can be either l or r. Many consider Bernie a populist, which is fair.

I've heard that a lot of parties in europe analogous to Dems, like Labour are drifting toward the dem model of austerity, letting corps dictate policy, etc. This is at best uninspiring, so they lose people.

Has gov become much more corrupt, as ours has? Can you make many millions as a politician? Do lobbyists write the laws? That's a driver here. (Drain the swamp.)

Immigration seems to be a big issue too. It seems like the only politicians who want to curtail it are rw populists.

A few Euro friends, who are not even RW, have told me about problems with crime among immigrant groups and how it's taboo to even talk about it, which frustrates them.

Also, given Brexit passed, obviously a lot of people don't like the EU and things likethat.

I'm not very knowledgeable on European politics, or even day to day politics in the US, but you asked.

California Split is the best gambling film ever, if you count casino as a mob film.

Robert Altman really captures the degen mind and there is a lot of poker, including a look at California card rooms back when they were even bigger cess pools.
