The Dems are doomed. Might as well put Kamala in there and they can get their virtue signal check box that they put a woman of color in for president and those racist republicans demonized her. Can get some woke points out of the election at least.

I haven't researched the issue but I suspect that this Georgia law professor may have the better of the argument. But I agree with Crossnerd that Barack Obama would not accept the position of VP and certainly would not accept the position of VP to Biden based on an unspoken agreement between the two of them that Biden would step down. This is partly because I'm sure he is enjoying his life now and partly because he thinks that dynastic politics are bad the country. The former factor, and to a much lesser degree, the latter factor, almost certainly are considerations for Michelle Obama as well.

I suspect that the end point of David's argument (for those few who can't see it coming) is that Obama specifically and Democrats generally must not really think Trump is that dangerous if they are resistant to this sort of gambit.

How do you rate this? I ask because VP is a pretty worthless position unless the President dies.

Given that, and given that it was generally accepted that the gambit was totally legal, almost certain to stop Trump, and that any alternative would almost certainly not, do you really think that most Trump opponents would find it laudable if he declined?

If the gambit is proposed Obama might decline due to the downsides mentioned by you and crossnerd if he thinks it is likely to not work. Don't' think he would if the outcome totally depended on his decision. But it would be hard for me to prove that.

i'll admit i have not closely followed her time in office, but the only things i'm aware of to date:

1) posed for vogue and lost her **** when they went with her posing in converses for cover photo
2) released a curated video where she taught kids about space, but then it came out that the kids were paid actors that had to audition to be part of the skit
3) briefly served as "AI Czar" giving speeches indicating she had no idea what AI was
4) cringe 60 minutes segment where she gives them a tour of her VP office with a desk that is completely bare, inside and out, as if she has not worked there

basically zero performative wins and a bunch of Veep-level blusters, but maybe i'm missing some good stuff

for the desk, to be fair it's the ceremonial office - but she then heavily implies that it is her working desk afterall, talking about always having thurgood marshall bust by her side

even if its not her regular office, it's hilarious that she pretends like it is and doesn't realize how stupid she looks when she then shows the desk which was never used

It's not about Biden's age nor cognitive capabilities.

Also the people calling for Biden to step down need to take a hard look in the mirror and ask what led them to just accept a talking point from Trump.

I think Biden should step down, and I have never said anything good about Bernie. I don't think Bernie should have even been on any democratic primary ballots, as he is not a Democrat.

Bill Maher has been saying Biden should step down for months, and he is no leftie. The entire NY Times editorial board just called for him to step down, and I don't recall them being big Bernie supporters.

I think the Dem idea was to wait until after the primaries because they couldn't risk the people choosing a dem candidate, but they wanted the debate to happen early enough where they could set the stage that biden isn't well and they need to replace him before it is too late.

I think whoever the Dem chooses has to run away from the "democracy is on the line" since the people didn't get a chance to vote for him in a primary. He/she also needs to distance themselves from the dem party a bit and claim that he/she has been trying to get the dem party to come clean that biden isn't well and hasn't been well for the last 4 years.

I think the Dems also need to concoct some kind of freak accident that occurred a day or two before the debate that biden was in. I don't think enough dem voters have drunk enough of the kool-aid to completely forget that Dems have been hiding biden in a basement since before the last election except for some teleprompter reads and to answer a few questions the team was able to practice with biden before he got in public. There are hours of videos of biden's team running between biden and the press yelling "no questions" during different events. Dems must convince people that biden was cognitively sound a couple days before the debate and then move a piano dropped on his head and now he is having trouble thinking on his own.

If a piano fell on his head I wouldve expected him to sound better.

Or he could just say “Thought I could do it, but guess I can’t”.

Don’t give the dems credit for any planning dude. They just wanted to keep their heads in the sand and hope he held together
