US Immigration Crisis

US Immigration Crisis

I didn’t see an immigration thread so I figured I would add one. This problem seems to be worsening everyday of the current admin. Hopefully some of our new elected officials can help with this. Mr. Luttrell is a great start

Thinking you could triple the wage of everyone involved in getting chicken to the grocery store and chicken prices would go up by only $0.03/pound is one of the dumbest things I have ever heard, sir.

And posting a 128 page PDF with almost no context is nonsense.

it was not shared without context, it's called a 10k and details the companies financial status, if you even skimmed that, you'd see they'd be just fine increasing wages from $7

their shipping costs alone went up by over 400 million dollars last year, they gave out tens of millions in stock options and bonuses to the executives

the cost of chicken dropped from 4.35 per pound to 4.08 in the stores despite adding over 500 million in additional costs last year

they'll be fine

A way to make a stronger claim on your side would be to guesstimate the total wages being paid right now in the slaughterhouses and point how trebling them would have little impact on gross margins

yeah that's fair but it can't be done because they don't breakdown what percentage of their employees are line workers and how many of them are part time

they have 120,000 employees in America and line workers make about $15 an hour

maybe it's half that amount, maybe 3/4 are line workers, maybe even 1/3 - it'd be dangerous to assume what it is

this is also the kind of industry that probably relies heavily on part time labor, so again, you can't just do x workers x $9 more an hour * 40 hours a week

Mcdonalds has increased wages significantly post covid, they are also doing better than ever

I feel like $18 for a big Mac is eventually going to hurt then. I've already reached the never-going-there-again stage myself.

Senior coffee is over $1 now too. Not good.

We shouldn’t even be entertaining the idea that increasing the cost of labor by 200% will increase the price of chicken less than 1%.

I think an end result would be the executives not having as much profit to pay themselves so much or do large stock buybacks but that's just crazy talk.

The people who died fixing potholes at 1am on the Baltimore bridge were from Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala and Mexico.

These are the people that Luciom thinks are drags on society and should be shot if they try to cross the border.

They've moved all their deals over to the app. Its incredibly cheap to eat at McDonalds still.

I got a quarter pounder and a spicy mcchicken for 3 dollars last night

After you're in Latin America you have to easy yourself back into US fast food. I'll be starting with In-and-Out

Your just assuming they were here illegally ?

He's assuming that Luciom feels the same about all people from those countries regardless of their immigration status.

Thats a smart play for them. I ate at mcdonalds once in the last 5 years, only becauae i ended up there with no real alternative and dont use the app. So i over paid for complete dog **** food. The app gets people in the habit of eating their garbage more consistantly.

Theyll probably start charging a yearly membership plan like costco.

No, I'm just assuming Luciom doesn't want people from Latin America who have useful skills and will do the work that people need to do stuff like drive across a bridge or eat food instead of PhDs to be allowed in. I say that because I read what he posts.

There is something like 55-60% chance they are here illegally if they are from the northern triangle

I'm going to guess that it takes about a day to be trained on fixing potholes. Could be just an hour or two but by the end of the day they're fixing them all by themselves and feeling comfortable about it.

And this legal vs illegal is transparent bullshit. No one who says this wants anywhere near the numbers of people who come and want to come here.

And anyway, they likely weren't. Two thirds of Guatemalans and Honduras in the US are currently undocumented. The one guy I saw any details on had been in the US for 18 years and likely got some kind of amnesty or something in that time, but most likely originally just crossed the border without permission.

Is there anything wrong with having immigration targets . Here in Canada we have some of the highest immigration rates with us taking almost 1/2 million folks in 2022 . We are also selective in whom we bring in and also allow seasonal migration from Mexico. The issue were running into is we do not have the housing for these individuals which results in driving up housing prices and rents .

By all means, stop allowing in people who do construction work. That ought to help you with your housing crisis.

Yeah, people with $0 in their pockets are the ones driving up housing costs.

Three families from Honduras moved into the 2 bedroom house across the street and real estate prices are skyrocketing!

Yeah, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, The UAE have this model for labor. How enlightened of you Canada!

Those are the people we do want coming into the country. We have a shortage of trades . Trust me I build houses I have looked into bringing in temporary workers from Mexico. I personally do not care what color my trades are . Though I do not pay cash under the table

You do realize with legal migration they need to live somewhere and generally rent. I know from my history with rentals immigrants are by far better tenants than fair skinned white folks 😀

Try googling supply and demand that may help you understand a housing crisis

you have this odd and mistaken obsession with a false belief that the lack of low income housing is due to not enough workers to build it when it's rather that developers pursue higher ROI projects and only build this stuff when the government mandates or subsidizes it enough to where it has the same ROI as building high end properties
