Moderation Questions and General Chat Thread

Moderation Questions and General Chat Thread

The last iteration of the moderation discussion thread was a complete disaster. Numerous attempts to keep it on topic failed, and it became a general discussion thread with almost no moderation related posts at all. And those that were posted were so buried in non-mod posts that it became a huge time drain on the mods to sort through them. Then, when off topic posts were deleted posters complained about that.

This led to the closing of the mod discussion thread, replaced by the post report/pm approach. This has filtered out lots of noise, but has resulted at times in the General Discussion Thread turning into a quasi-mod thread. This is not desirable, but going back to the old mod thread is also not a workable option.

Therefore, I have created this new moderation thread, but with a different purpose and ground rules than previous mod threads. The purpose of this thread is to provide a place for posters to pose questions to the mods about how policies are applied; to bring to the mods attention posts they think are inappropriate and reach the level of requiring mod action; and for mods to communicate to posters things like changes or clarifications to policies, bannings, etc.

Now let me tell you what this thread is NOT a place for. It is not for nonmoderation related posts, even if the discussion originates from a comment in in a mod related post. It is not for posters to post their opinions about other posters or whether a poster should be banned. It is not to rehash past grievances about mod decisions from months or years ago. The focus of this thread will be recent posts that require action now. Or questions about current policies and enforcement.

So basically, this is a thread to ask mods questions. Which means, pretty much that only mods should be answering those questions. If a poster asks why a particular post was deleted or allowed, only a mod can answer that. Everyone else who wants to jump in with their opinion or their mod war story needs to stay out of it. It just increases the noise to signal ratio and does nothing to answer the question.

Everyone needs to understand that this thread has very different rules than the old mod thread and any other thread. Any non-moderation post will be deleted on sight. Not moved to the appropriate thread, just deleted. So don't waste your time crafting a masterpiece post about wars or transgender issues or the presidential election and then post it in this thread. It will be gone. Also, this isnt a thread for general commentary about our mods performance. Posting "browser sucks as a mod" or any such posts that don't actually ask about a policy or request a mod action will be deleted. Everyone is entitled to their opinion about the moderation of this forum. But this thread isnt for complaining about mods. You are free to go to the ATF forum and make your concerns about modding in this forum there.

So with that intro, this thread is open for those who need to bring questions about mod policies or bring inappropriate posts to the mods attention. Again, it is NOT a thread for group discussions about other posters or for other posters to answer questions directed to mods.

We'll see how this goes. If you have what you feel is an open issue raised in the General Discussion Thread, please copy that post or otherwise reintroduce the issue here.

Thanks.

Watched that Lex Friedman debate with Finkelstein, etc... thought it was good mainly because everyone behaved civilized. I already knew basically all the arguments from both sides because I follow the thread in the forum. Losing the Zionist voices from the thread pretty much ruins it and what Mets said I doubt insulted anyone more than Victor calling people genocide lovers.
From Met's history in the thread I don't think anyone can call him m

I don't think you get it. Saying Palestinian parents are having children out of some patriotic duty is one of the worst things anyone could say. 2 weeks? He got off easy.

Maybe I don't get it but I guess I'm off when I don't think of Mets as some far right extremist either. So if that is something that a decent percent of Zionists think, let's hear it, not ban them.

OK sure. But he violated a direct order from Browser.

Well I don't know his previous violations but have to think they're pretty minimal, so I'd say it's a bit excessive. Anyways, I'm sure Browser will make a fair decision when he clears his head.

Mets ignored the order. We follow orders or people die, son.

Your hero Stalin would approve, especially of the starving part.

Have you finally lost the last marble you had left?

Oh so that wasn't a "no, u rejoinder" bc reasons.

There is a really nice Caitlyn Johnstone article on this subject Centrists are violet extremists

For the benefit of the hard of thinking, the "no u" part is the laughable assertion that the west was just as bad or worse than Stalin. Not "no u d2".

I have to imagine the West's body count by this point far exceeds what Stalin did.

they blame Stalin for all the Nazi deaths in WW2. Victims of Communism.

Lol. Run along to BBV chaps, the adults are discussing politics here.

So you think Stalin's body count is higher or you dismiss the idea that body count is the way to accurately measure how bad a regime is?

By today's definition he's center right.

"Body count" is a meaningless measure without context, such as time frame and reasons for the bodies.

Are you going to compare a soldier in active combat to a serial killer by body count? The point is so puerile as not to be worth addressing.

By the measure innocent people per unit time murdered for potical reasons, worked to death as slaves, imprisoned in abject conditions, starved to death, or otherwise genocided, Stalin doesn't have much competition. Just Hitler, Pol Pot, Mao, and the North Koreans, really.

I believe it was Stalin himself who came up with the phrase "you kill a few people, it's murder. You kill a few million, it's a statistic." It's widely attributed to him, anyway.

Yeah but afaik there's no actual proof he said this and if he did he's thought to be quoting a German writer's 1932 essay

https://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Politics/2...

There's no proof that Stalin ever said this, but even if he did, he would likely have been quoting a 1932 essay on French humor by the German journalist, satirist, and pacifist Kurt Tucholsky.

Much like Rousseau did with his "great princess," Tucholsky quotes a fictional diplomat from the French Ministry of Foreign affairs, speaking on the horrors of war.

"The war?" says Tucholsky's diplomat, "I cannot find it to be so bad! The death of one man: this is a catastrophe. Hundreds of thousands of deaths: that is a statistic!"

given our conversation about the Hamas charter, I dont think you are really able to reliably relay information or decipher it.

Or it could be that your claim was simply just y'know bull$hit.

Stop this derail please. Take it to the appropriate thread.
