SIDES - Inaugural Game Thread

SIDES - Inaugural Game Thread

In this thread, we will play a new word game called Sides. It's somewhat similar to codenames, but cooperative and different.

Sign up with /in below if you want to play.

In this game, a target word will be randed as will a row of 7 cards that have letters on them (most 1 letter, some 2/3/4 letters).

2 people will be the guessers and everyone else will be able to give a clue.

The clue given must start with the letter on either the first or last card (the 'sides' of the row).

We discuss as a team who will give the clue with open discussion in the thread such as "I have a 7 letter word starting with a C"

Once there is some agreement on who gives the clue, that person will bold the clue they want to give in the thread.

The two guessers will then discuss in the thread and bold their guess. If it's correct, we move on to the next guessers and the next word. If wrong, then the clue givers post some info like "you are warm" or "you are about 30% there" etc to give directional info on how on track/off track their guess is.

Then they discuss and give another clue. But the person who bolded a clue cannot give another clue for the same word until everyone on the cluing side has clued a word (if we take that long to get the word), so one person can't hog the cluing.

Clues have to be one word, or an acronym, etc like in codenames; they can be hyphenated words

We can also give some info on how the clues relate to each other, or even say a clue is a 0 clue, so the opposite of what cluing for (e.g., clue 'colorful' as an opposite clue because the word is zebra)

I'll provide more details and examples in the thread in the morning, but this should be enough info for you to /in and join so we can play.

I like i9

What's the bink equity of i9? I know my P11 has some Shadowfax risk, but I'm confident that one or both of the guessers will pick it up.

Very high imo. I think it will hit about the same amount of words as most/all of these other clues, except there is no chance of a shadowfax.

Admittedly I don't know what a lot of these clues are, but I can take a guess at your line of thinking for them.

Hmm my i9 is never a shadowfax

Tbh its not a huge bink, but l3 always gets it

Go p11 for the bink.

Why are we risking a shadowfax when we have a perfectly cromulent clue?

I don't think i9 binks. And I don't think my shadowfax is that obscure.

Ok well I don't know what it is, but I don't really care if you're sure it hits.

I do think i9 binks with all the info they now have tho, and it's super safe.

Go for it.

inspector

No Sherlock or poirot so prolly not detective version

I was thinking from the beginning that d9 or l3 was Dalmatian or lab so was thinking fireman angle and there are fire inspectors but don’t really see that

Gonna have to noodle on this

Could also be vet with Dalmatian or lab

P3->s7 would be paw or pet surgeon

Dunno

First word that came to mind to me was gadget

Followed by health & safety

yeah, but if they didn't capitalize inspector for gadget then I dunno what to say

gonna take a harder look at this; feel there are plenty of clues to figure this out

Eh idk may not have occured to capitalize

Could be the other stuff and having to do with food

If it's lab could be like a microscope and totally different realm of inspector

Inspector -> d9/L3 gets it so we just need to brainstorm d9/L3s

D9 detective
L3 law

Did they clue Peralta p7?

by IBeDrummin P

I9 to D9 should do it. Nothing coming to me as a straightforward 1-shot. P3 to S7 could be a way there from the left side.

Probably on I—>D for now

Inspector -> detective

Or

Pig -> station

Both could be for “police” or “police officer”

But if it’s police officer seems like would be simpler and not need a ton of shadowfaxes?

Maybe investigator or something?

I agree w u about the police thing

Think to bink this in one we need to figure out some of the shadowfaxes

It’s likely they are famous police officers or investigators or something like that if the word is police or investigator or similar

Mystery? Sherlock?

If it's inspector into detective how would that help us

I don’t know; pig to station or sergeant seems more direct for police officer

Need more d words beyond detective and dalmation and L3 beyond law and lab

If mystery they’d do investigate not inspector (or Scooby)

If Sherlock they’d insta clue Holmes no discussion

2+2 is back!

Well what about the health/food/safety route? We should keep it movin

I don’t even know what word you want to guess for those?

The word health or safety or food?

Food and health would be different words and I doubt safety is a word

I think we need to go with police officer or something similar

I'm fine with that if you wanna fire it...we should keep it movin
