ganstaman not the unhinged one after all

ganstaman not the unhinged one after all

The man issues me infractions for merely having an opinion and expressing it. In a thread where people constantly attack me, call me all sorts of vicious names, some even threaten to do me harm, I get an infraction for suggesting the thread would be better if he stopped posting in it since he doesn’t contribute anything.
I guess people with thin skin shouldn’t be moderators.

"transphobia?" I've read the thread. I would say there is not a soul in that thread who is afraid of trannys.

The term "tranny" is generally considered offensive. I believe the previous mod of Politics didn't allow it in that thread. Also, transphobia does not mean the fear of transgender people.

Gregorio, don’t let Meisner groom you.

Think we're getting a little off-track here; we already have a thread in the Politics forum for discussion of transgender issues. This is the thread where we discuss how unhinged ganstaman is.

by Meisner P

Right on cue, the other poster from the trans thread who doesn’t answer simple questions and cannot back up his claims. I’m not 100% certain you and gansta aren’t the same person.

LOL. What's it been, a month or two since you were told what thread that discussion belonged in, I posted in it, but you didn't care to continue? The thread's still there; you can continue the conversation any time.

by ganstaman P

I made a spelling error around 20 years ago and have carried it around with me ever since. I think it was my brother who pointed this out to me before I noticed myself.

gangstaman was banned 12+ years ago and has zero posts - I could fix your name with a few mouse clicks, just say the word. 😀

Ganstaman’s “unhingedness” is not on display here….perhaps a title change is required.

Oh look, a duplicate thread for awful people to "debate".

Hey, just as an aside, if I'm going to quit being a mod and I go on a rampage banning idiots, will there be any sort of long term consequences, other than being demodded? Hypothetically, of course.

Edit: by "awful" I mean Meisner, of course

A phobia is an overwhelming and debilitating fear of an object, place, situation, feeling or animal.

So I'm an idiot, eh? Well, since the forum clearly allows name-calling, **** you you *********** ******!

He knows this of course. It's one of the top talking points of people who are transphobic

You spelled awful wrong. I called you awful. So, you have a little homophobia too, to go with your transphobia. I'm sorry you have so much hate in you.

Hey, now Meisner can complain how unhinged I am as well. Since I gave him 20 points rather than zero, clearly I'm infinitely more unhinged!

Here, let me help you.

transphobia
noun
trans·pho·bia ˌtran(t)s-ˈfō-bē-ə ˌtranz-
: irrational fear of, aversion to, or discrimination against transgender people

Exactly. Even the definition you provided says fear of. Nobody fears them. Nor does anyone who has posted here hate them. Most of us are concerned that we doing a disservice to these people, especially the children.
I do not advocate discriminating against anyone, even trans people. We all share this planet. We are all having a human experience.

If you use the word "transphobic" to refer to people who are not afraid of trans people, then what word do you have left to use for people who are afraid of them.

It makes a lot more sense to use it in the logical way, the same as other words ending in "phobia" or "phobic".

We have other phobias which aren't fears. Eg homophobia, photophobia, and phonophobia. Molecules can be hydrophobic. Language is not always logical, and we shouldn't expect it to be.

Is this a big problem in your mind? I can't imagine there are that many, if any, who are afraid of transgender people. But if there are, we can just use the same word because...*gasp*...most words have multiple meanings.

Like...

homophobia
noun
ho·mo·pho·bia ˌhō-mə-ˈfō-bē-ə
: irrational fear of, aversion to, or discrimination against homosexuality or gay people

or

arachnophobia
noun
arach·no·pho·bia ə-ˌrak-nə-ˈfō-bē-ə
: pathological fear or loathing of arachnids and especially spiders

or

cynophobia
noun
cy·no·pho·bia ˌsī-nə-ˈfō-bē-ə
: pathological fear or loathing of dogs

More importantly, what does this have to do with the hingedness, or lack thereof, of ganstaman? We're losing track of the important issue here. :p

Homophobia to me always has meant fear of homosexuals or homosexuality. That is what it originally meant and is still the primary usage as far as I have noticed.
I just don't hear it used much to refer to those who don't like gay people.

Arachnophobia of course primarily means fear of spiders. I've never heard of anyone who "loathes" spiders for any other reasons.

All the other words mentioned above are scientific terms not in common usage.

Sure, words can have multiple meanings, and the meanings of words can change. But these words are more often used to shut off reasonable debate and really are nothing other than childish name-calling.

I have seen no one here recently express anything amounting to hatred of trans people. "Transphobic" is being thrown around against people who express the view that children should not be given trans-related hormones, etc. I agree with that position, and I am nowhere near transphobic in any definition. In fact I probably have more experience interacting with trans people than anyone else who has been active in the current debate.

Chillrob, you are a beautiful and wise person.

i like gansta, unhinged is not something i would use to describe him

i also think meisner is very bad at communicating without insulting others, even those who agree with him

having said that, i think it's difficult to maintain objectivity in a thread in which you are one of the most active participants within and thus i think gansta is in a difficult spot here and going to make mistakes as a result either through inaction out of fear of bias or via bias, it's a lose lose proposition which is why i don't think mods should be modding threads in which they are actively refuting things other people say

i also feel like meisner, although he may deserve it, is a bit ganged up on in the thread

you'll often get a situation where I, someone else, and meisner will all have very similar sentiments come out in a 3 post burst in which we all agree - what will nearly always happen is the more carefully constructed posts someone like chillrob or myself created will be left ignored and then 5 separate people (gansta included) will all quote post and attack his poorer constructed argument and wholly ignoring the others which say the exact same thing

it's very tribal in there and it's quite obvious a lot of the posters are just trying to gang up on meisner rather than have a genuine discussion because nobody in there is going to ever change their mind anytime soon

so i am quite sympathetic to meisner's interpretation of the things with the obvious caveat that if he learned to read the room, interact better with otheres, and post better he wouldn't face this kind of gang treatement to this extent

I suggest that all this discussion about word definitions and transgender issues go back to the transgender visibility thread in politics, where there have already been posts on these topics and so the conversations can continue rather than rehash the same arguments here.

There will be no consensus reached on this topic itt just as there will never be in the politics thread. But the ATF forum isn't really for discussing hot political/societal issues. If there are additional pieces of info pertaining to site wide rules or moderation policies then by all means discuss them here. But the actual transgender issues discussion belongs back in politics.

And just a reminder, the rule against personal attacks is a site wide rule so please be mindful of that. Insults never improve anyone's debate position.

Thanks

Edit; I was 0/3 on names. I thought at first it was gangstaman, chillirob, and Rocco, not rococo.

That seems like a good idea. I hadn't even realized this was in About The Forums.

That's because Politics forum regs are always ready to lay down anytime and anyplace. 😉

i have completely read this thread in its entirety, and profoundly thought about every response and am now ready to make my response public.
first off: THERE ISN'T A G? WTF?

where did i keep thinking there was a g in his name. DAMMIT!

I disagree with the bolder. The rest is fairly accurate.
If you look back to my first posts in the thread, I was civil. I merely made my point, posted evidence, studies, whatever, but almost immediately I’m called names like “transphobe”, “hater,” etc simply because I had the balls to express a dissenting opinion. So, I figure, hell with it. No more mister nice guy.
And you cannot dispute the excessive name calling and outright threats toward me. I’ve threatened no person in any thread.

I’d like to assess this mod points for bypassing profanity filter. Thank you.
