For whatever it’s worth, not all the families that were torn apart were themselves all racist bigots. It only takes one in a family to tear it apart. Believe me. It’s how I lost mine. The pain has been unbearable.

(Edit- we had a qanon casualty, not a rioter, but they managed to get similar results)

I feel you, absolutely true. I tend to generalize a bit too much from time to time. I'm sorry to hear this. Similar thing happened with my family. It's essentially two families now, and the older members still don't understand what they never hear from me anymore.

But I get it. Gotta defend the faux democracy with its fake elections whenever the team you root for wins

Right, better to just subvert the entire thing and kill police officers when your team doesn't win. At least you are a consistent clown show..

by TBobLP P

Oh, so I don't have the choice of which museum to visit now? **** off with this lame attempt at whataboutism.

Crazy how often people incorrectly use the term whataboutism. It’s the canned response to any criticism of something or someone you like. That’s not what whataboutism is?

Also you can choose to do whatever you want. I just found your highroading about museums pretty silly

Man how did I know the card carrying liberal was going to bring up a cop dying!

Their ultimate trump card!

Our older members are all dying now from heart complications that are likely Covid related because they’re all anti-vax and have had multiple reinfections. Oh, and they are deeply suspicious of the medical teams that continue to save their lives. Really great stuff all around.

Anyway, I didn’t mean to nitpick you. I know what you meant, it just makes me so sad these days.

Amazing someone could still use that in a conversation with me as some kind of gotcha

by TBobLP P

What do you know, no citation for that made up claim..

by TBobLP P

A few hundred? 900 people are serving close to 900 years in prison for crimes related to the insurrection. You're not wrong about Bernie getting completely shafted and I would never defend that. But man, you just love to make **** up and then downplay and minimize actually verifiable data. Wonder why that is. Can't make your point with facts alone?

I’m not in the habit of providing footnotes and a bibliography for every off hand post I make on an Internet forum.

A festivus miracle

It’s just weird. You can ask me for a citation if you want. But just going “lol no citation” without even asking? Like you could do that to literally any post anyone has made.

I mean… you did downplay the widespread violence that has become a defining characteristic of the riots. It was not just milling around aimlessly, as you said. People* were killed.

But imma let you guys finish

Thank you for continuously providing cheap entertainment in this thread, birdman. Truly.

Just because I know that all cops are bad, doesn't mean that I believe they all should die. I hope that helps.

I mean… abolish the police but let’s not murder them seems fair

The real significance of the J6 thing is that it was a likely at least partially organized/instigated by the FBI and has been and continues to be used as a pretext for increased militarization and violent retribution by law enforcement against other protests (almost all leftist). And of course democratic advocates support it because it was “Trump supporters” who were behind j6

Don’t know how my position became “murder the police”.

I must have missed where I pushed for that

My new way to let everyone know I’d have good.trademark politics is to tell people I’m going to museums

i just realized!!! i love birdman and crossnerd, and they are both really similar!!!

they are both hilarious, and can be completely uncompromising... like when they get the bit between their teeth, then can just go! like a champion race horse running 100 mph. and that passion, and clarity of vision can get them in trouble.

like this back and forth between birdman and tbob rn... birdman has has this exact back and forth with...

crossnerd
wellnamed
eyebooger
kokiri
uncledynamite
iamnotaww
mets
vr
mark
doctorz
monte
herbie
even me to some degree

basically anyone who's posted in here lol

and he's not wrong!!! his points could be made more gently... but idk.. maybe they wouldn't get through as much if there were. idk... idk what the answer is. but birdman has changed the way i think.

i know 100% my heart is good, and crossnerd's heart is good. but on a few things i think we were both wrong and birdman was right. and i think maybe the same thing is happening again with tbob. idk tbob irl, but i'd be shocked if he wasn't a genuinely really great person, all around. like shocked.

it's so easy to just see "maga bad! trump bad! republicans bad!" and forget how truly evil the dems are.

like birdman makes a great point about how powerless the jan 6th rioters are, and how much energy we focus on hating them... meanwhile the DNC rigged the last two primaries to successfully overthrow democracy... and while we do hate them for that, it's not even close to how much we should, compared to how much we hate the jan 6th rioters....

if that even makes sense? lol

jan 6th rioters damage to democracy - 15 points

dnc damage to democracy - 1,000,000,000 points

jan 6th hate - 25 points

dnc hate - 200 points

it's just all out of whack

I mean… you did downplay the widespread violence that has become a defining characteristic of the riots. It was not just milling around aimlessly, as you said. People* were killed.

The original context of the discussion was the political significance of the J6 riots/protests/whatever you want to call them.

Filthy referred to the movement as an attempt to overthrow the US government, and TBobLP said they were trying to install Trump as a dictator and also implied the movement was specifically racist and bigoted. I was responding to that context. So when I say "a bunch of idiots milling around taking pictures in the office of the world's biggest insider trading cartel" I was speaking specifically to the political aspect.

Of course there was some violence and a cop did die. I personally don't feel that there was specifically anti-cop politics behind what happened on J6 nor an attempt to specifically target police officers in a politically motivated fashion. But happy to discuss that side of it if people feel different.

The points I was making were

1) As much as democrat-stans love to pretend that Trump is specifically biggoted and racist he's not. He is absolutely biggotted and racist but so is Biden or any other President. I don't find support for Trump over Biden to be a line of racism vs anti-racism. Perhaps there is a continuum there and happy to elaborate on that nuance if you want.

2) What ultimately happened on J6 did not even remotely constitute an attempt to install a dictator. That is what I meant when I said "bunch of idiots milling around". Because even though someone died and people got hurt there was zero organization or concrete things happening to this end. It was just a bunch of foolish misguided people doing a whole bunch of nothing (from a political standpoint).

3) Additionally I was attempting to point out that the US has always been and continues to be under a dictatorship which further makes the idea that Trump is a dictator or wants to be a dictator or that his supporters want him to be a dictator silly and moot.

4) Lastly I was trying to make it clear that US elections have always been and continue to be a total sham.

I did not feel that one police officer dying was relevant to any of those points.

I have come to terms with the fact that the two parties represent morally opposing views while simultaneously worshipping the same masters. That realization is in large part due to being exposed to radically progressive discourse like Birdman’s. So there’s that I suppose.

I don’t actually want to be involved in the argument though so I’m gonna stfu for now 😀

i had to read this sentence a few times, cuz i was sure you were saying "the two parties do NOT represent morally opposing views" lol

like people point to abortion, and/or maybe racism as the biggest difference between the repubs and dems... but like idk man... i don't think they even really differ on those!!!!

like the dems could have protected abortion rights if they wanted to, but they never did!!! they don't really care. and they loved having the threat of abortion hanging over the heads of voters... they ****ing love repubs trying to over turn abortion rights.

I mean, in some ways yes, but also having spent a lot of time with specifically the Christian Right, they are the worst people. And I’m not just saying that bc they worship an all-powerful deity who allegedly came to earth and impregnated a teenager without her consent or the fact that Christians are the oldest arsonists of universities and libraries, or the fact that they routinely and uncritically hold back the development of society and science because some 2000 year old book written by Stone Age peasants and edited by numerous kings and popes tells them to. They are genuinely terrible. And it is not lost on me that the first thing the rioters did when they breached the inner chambers was to pray together. It’s impossible to reason with anyone who believes they are on a mission from “god”. At least with liberals when discussing morality and ethics, I don’t have to deal with that extra level of psychopathy, oh the Bible says so or whatever.

Yeah I don't think there is any specific direct political significance from j6 other than policies that may result from it, which I would call secondary or something like that.

And trump potentially being denied from the ballot which I would consider direct and potentially significant.

lmfao! 😆

so good!!!

and you didn't even mention some of the biggest evils! lol

i forget the names of all the doctrines, proclamations or whatever bullshit lol... but one was the christian leaders picked some line of longitude, and said everything on one side of it belonged to whichever band of christians, and everything on the other side belonged to another band of christians.

and any christian could just take any land that belonged to anyone who wasn't christian... i wish i could remember that proclamation, cuz it's a big one. and it was used to justify genocide, and the stealth of so called north america, and south america, and africa, and australia... and they tried it in asia, but asian militaries were too powerful.
