Politics and Society Moderation Discussion Only Fans Thread
Hello everyone. I've closed the previous mod thread, and opened this to capture all issues related to moderation policies and actions going forward. I'll kick it off by reposting my intro post from the other thread. Again, I'm happy to be here and look forward to hearing from you.

Hello everyone.
I'm very pleased to have the opportunity to serve as a moderator in Politics and Society. I asked for this position because I believe we are experiencing a polarization in our politics and society unseen since the 1960s. We may well be at a juncture from which we will either make great progress or suffer great setbacks in regards to our democratic foundations and civil rights over the next few years. So I believe it is important to maintain a forum for discussing these important topics. When the other mods had to step back a bit due to their real life time obligations, I asked to join the mod team to help keep the forum going.
I have not followed this forum in the past, though I have been reading through threads the last few days and made a few posts. This has allowed me to get a sense of the initial impression the forum likely makes on new readers who are deciding if our forum is a place they would like to visit regularly and participate in. While I see some familiar names from the live poker forum, many of you I have not had any interaction with to date. I have no preconceived notions of anyone's posting behavior and will essentially start from a clean slate.
I will shortly post more about my modding approach and give my initial impressions of the forum based on my observations over the last several days. I will be soliciting your input on things you like about the forum that you want to remain, and things you don't like that you would like me to change. Your candid input and feedback is very important to me. Especially, please don't hesitate to let me know if you think a policy or a proposal is a bad idea. I'd rather hear it before it goes into effect than after.
My overall modding principle is simple: Be Nice. Disagreement need not be disrespectful, and everyone must be treated with respect. Calling a poster derogatory names or hurling snarky insults never usefully advances a discussion. It just bogs things down and turns off many would be participants. And it's not nice. Don't do it.
My goal is to have a forum where people with a wide variety of opinions along the political spectrum enjoy expressing and debating their views in a spirited manner, free from insults, bigotry and denigrating comments. If you enjoy discussing these important and often polarizing issues in a passionate, yet respectful manner, I look forward to getting to know you and working with you to create a forum people will enjoy visiting and contributing to. You can be as committed, determined and relentless as you like in advocating for your position. Be persuasive, thought provoking and challenging. But be nice.
I want to thank tame_deuces and King Spew for their support in bringing me onboard and for all the time and effort they have put into making the forum better. While I am taking over most of the day to day modding responsibilities, both are retaining their mod status and superpowers, and will be supporting the forum as their availability permits. And I personally welcome their continued advice and feedback.
Again, I am happy to be here and look forward to getting to know you.

Let's see (not in particular order):
Calling another poster a racist clown; a pedophile; a racist and a nazi; and telling one to **** off.
Self-inflicted wounds are the most painful.
π
Congratulations, you have now added "emotional blackmail" to your asenal.
Last time when you left, I could hardly contain my enjoyment. But I did say, privately, to someone - I don't want to piss on the guy's grave, man, He was a decent guy, just a **** mod.
You've opened this door now. Well done, you.
They're there. I know where they are. If you really need to see them go find them. The site even has tools to make it really easy.
For sure. Do you like how I'm skirting on the fringes of literally every single stated rule when I post latterly, because I don't want you to get me on a technicality?
This should be fun place. Not a place where some sefl-appointed dictator is standing there wielding a masive hammer over everyone. You will kill this forum with this approach.
The fact that the moderator of a politic and society forum, when pressed to present a view on one thing related to politics or society, says "use the search function", is a bit telling.
No, man, I want you to say something you think. Here. Now. And commit to that opinion.
what browser did is a very good thing
people here have long ago ceased having productive discussion and just toss insults
just look how once browser forbid calling people bigot or transphobe all the trans threads died overnight because many don't want an actual discussion
just look how when 3 posters all say the same thing in a series of posts, all the responses will ignore the two more reasonable posters and just quote respond attack to the 3rd one which was made by a newish account
it's tribal and unproductive - better to have no discussion at all then just having 2 sides play hot potato but instead of a potato its aids
Also, while you're on the unicorn search, maybe you could link one post where someone says they agree with your moderation policies.
I dont mind playing catch and release with you. Im glad you arent crossing the line because I dont enjoy banning anyone, and I dont want to ban you. But if I got off on mod power as you say, I wouldn't need a reason. I could just ban you at any time and make up any reason. That's what dictators can do. And no mod can undo another mod's ban. But for the record, I didnt appoint myself. I was appointed by the bigger dictators.
It should be a fun place. Some people think it's fun to call people names and insult them. Most people outgrow that by high school, but some carry it with them for life and end up on anonymous internet forums, the last bastion of name calling without real life consequences. But the problem is that other people dont think its fun to be insulted and called names. They think its fun to participate in a forum without the insults.
Since that means both types of people cant have fun in the same forum, forum owners have to decide which group to accommodate. The owners here went the fun without insults option.
No need for a link. Look at the post directly above yours π
did he ever offer to stake you in exchange for pics?
he was just temp banned right?
One week.
See, this is how disinformation starts. I never said use the search function as you quoted me as saying.(when you put words in those little "" symbols it means those were my exact words).
I would have thought that someone who has been around here for 10 years would know you can click on a link in a posters profile and see the last 250 posts made by that user. No need for the search function. That's why I never said use the search function.
It doesnt really matter what you want. I want to win the Thai lotto today so I can afford to give up my lucrative mod salary and surf the entire internet responsibility free. But its not likely to happen. We dont always get what we want.
This is the allocution of someone who is guilty. An innocent person just sends the links.
Sorry, but even my google translate app can't figure out what that means π
OK. I give up. Here is a post I made in the Trump thread contributing my thoughts on a political topic not modding.
But interestingly, just 6 posts later in the very same thread, you made a post displaying your contribution to a political topic outside the moderation thread.
LMFAO. π
I remember when i acted like a pompous ass and bitched and moaned about mods who do this thankless job for free
Good times
I stand erected.
Nah, for real, alright, you get this one. You got it.
We live to fight another day.
All good.
The details to some of this drama are so wild
This probably accounts for 80% of the on-topic posts in the moderation thread.
100%. This subforum has been much better this past week than it has been since t_d left.
I personally get 0 "power satisfaction" or whatever from banning someone. It's always met with attacks from those who think any form of enforcing rules is tyranny, and little thanks from those who benefit from it (which is usually 100% of the users). Thanks to all the mods here for your efforts, it's easily the most difficult subforum to mod that I've seen on 2p2. Unfortunately I have not been doing my best to make it easier to mod, and I apologize.
I, for one, appreciate the moderators’ attempts to re-socialize some of the hooligans
Schlitz mmm has received a substantial temp ban for egregious unprovoked personal attacks on another poster. I left most of the posts up but deleted the worst one that I would never allow to remain up. It seemed to come out of the blue, but his user notes indicate previous warning and bans for similar outbursts, which was considered in deciding appropriate action.
