SIDES - Inaugural Game Thread

SIDES - Inaugural Game Thread

In this thread, we will play a new word game called Sides. It's somewhat similar to codenames, but cooperative and different.

Sign up with /in below if you want to play.

In this game, a target word will be randed as will a row of 7 cards that have letters on them (most 1 letter, some 2/3/4 letters).

2 people will be the guessers and everyone else will be able to give a clue.

The clue given must start with the letter on either the first or last card (the 'sides' of the row).

We discuss as a team who will give the clue with open discussion in the thread such as "I have a 7 letter word starting with a C"

Once there is some agreement on who gives the clue, that person will bold the clue they want to give in the thread.

The two guessers will then discuss in the thread and bold their guess. If it's correct, we move on to the next guessers and the next word. If wrong, then the clue givers post some info like "you are warm" or "you are about 30% there" etc to give directional info on how on track/off track their guess is.

Then they discuss and give another clue. But the person who bolded a clue cannot give another clue for the same word until everyone on the cluing side has clued a word (if we take that long to get the word), so one person can't hog the cluing.

Clues have to be one word, or an acronym, etc like in codenames; they can be hyphenated words

We can also give some info on how the clues relate to each other, or even say a clue is a 0 clue, so the opposite of what cluing for (e.g., clue 'colorful' as an opposite clue because the word is zebra)

I'll provide more details and examples in the thread in the morning, but this should be enough info for you to /in and join so we can play.

First to mind is judge, which makes G5 gavel.

Heh I don't actually know this so...good you do! It's a judge then? First thought was the new vampire nic cage movie or whatever but I don't remember the actual name haha

If it's judge gavel makes sense, g8 could be Ginsberg(and that's close to the end of my judge knowledge)

If you can decipher what the Ks would be id feel good to fire it

Judge Reinhold is an actor and hits this pretty squarely:

Does anyone know the r8? It hits exactly 1 word.

And yeah,
G5 works for gavel
G8 works for Ginsburg
K5 works for Kagan

R7 could’ve worked for Roberts but was unmentioned, perhaps because it’s much more common and it could’ve led us to Julia instead of John.

I’ve probably quite literally only ever heard the word Reinhold through the context of the actor Judge Reinhold.

G8 was only mentioned by Nich in his long list of options he then told us to disregard. The bulk of the conversation has been between R8, G5, and R9 (which I don’t have a word for yet).

R3 could be Roy (Judge Roy Bean)

Haha, pretty sure that’s Renfield. Close tho!

Oh ok I didn't know the actor

And yea Renfield lol!!!

Fire imo unless you have any other thoughts to it

judge

r3 or g8 or k5 or g7 or k9 or k7

RBG
Ginsburg
Kagan
Gorsuch
Kavanaugh
Ketanji

But then I realized those could get you to say Supreme Court instead

Yeah once D1 said it hits exactly one i remembered Judge Reinhold and knew you would also

Yeah, should probably be careful about posts that specific during discussion. I was never not bolding judge, but I also knew I didn’t need to bother with bolding another word along with it.

Fwiw, I would've said the same thing even if it was multiple words...it's just the easiest way to discuss clues.

Yeah he just meant that the clue wouldn’t be ambiguous…it would lead to one answer

r9 was Rehnquist, who was the chief justice before roberts

ah, yeah

I was off of the justices at that point since didn't want them to guess Supreme Court or justice or similar

Round 3:

Cards used: 2

Guessers: ibd/nich

The Board:

EF | B | DL | T | A | S | UNKQ

The target word:
someone please pick a random number in your head between 1 and 439 and then look at that row in the google doc and pm bolt2112/doctor zeus/d1iabolical/filthyvermin/amazingervin the word

link: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1...

PM's sent

F8 ok
Very good k6 imo

If the k6 is what I think it is, that might lead to the wrong word imo.

I think I like the f8 better. B4 would pick it up if it misses too.

I'm not 100% sure what the f8 is but can think of some various stuff for F

I cant see how....so i think its different

Mines quite british tho

Yeah just bold the k6 then since nobody else seems interested.

I think I know what it is but not sure.
