The costs of trans visibility

The costs of trans visibility

Yesterday, Dylan Mulvaney broke her silence: https://www.tiktok.com/@dylanmulvaney/vi....

For context, this is a trans influencer who built a 10 million strong following on TikTok. She took a brand deal with budweiser to post an ad on an instagram, and the anti-trans right went absolutely ballistic, calling for a boycott, condemning the company, and to some perhaps unknowable degree it influenced that Budweiser sales dropped by a 1/4 and

. Dylan speaks more personally about the effect of the hatred on her.

What strikes me about this story is that it is just about visibility. This isn't inclusion in sports or gender-affirming care for minors, it was just that a trans person was visible. This wasn't even visibility in a TV commerical that a poor right-winger is forced to see, it was an ad on her own instagram page. We're all in our own social media algorithm influenced bubbles, but from my vantage point it really has seemed that in the last year or so things have just gotten worse for trans people and the backlash to even minor visibility is growing.

We need to do better.

I'll or I will, there/their/they are and your/you are/you're would be a good start. For a guy so concerned about people wanting preferred pronouns, you sure **** up the grammar rules and contractions on a regular basis.

It still allows for a child to make life altering decision on their bodies which is disgusting the first phase in transitioning .

Not without the diagnosis and approval of medical professionals.

Another important thing to note is that this law does not apply to every transgender person who wants to transition in order to reduce the gender incongruence they feel. It is limited to those whose depression or anxiety is so great or ability to function has been so debilitated that they have, in fact, been diagnosed with the mental disorder of gender dysphoria.

Please tone down the insults. If someone thinks another poster misrepresented an article's content, just state why and point out the discrepancies. No need to start attacking the persons reading skills or education. Likewise, if you think something starts us down a slippery slope, say so. But posting as if the action under discussion has already taken us down the slope isnt posting in good faith.

Thanks

Again my apologies on my grammar as well. I spent most of my childhood up till grade 9 in Hospital wards and some years missed 1/2 a school year and it took me 3 tries to barely pass English 30

If there is anything else you wish to point out as my short comings and insults please feel free to list them all and I will work on them

I hope you get the enjoyment out of insulting and trying to demean people that do not live up to your standards

Or maybe like Montreal you could point out that i suffer from Mental Health issues

Not without the diagnosis and approval of "medical professionals".

FYP. A "medical professional":

And this proves what, exactly?

And those are the so called medical professionals?

the mental gymnastics done by the gender spectrum folks is impressive, they would clean house if it were an olympic event

by rickroll P

they would clean house if it were an olympic event

That event is only for women.

Does a chicken commit suicide? Wtf?

by lozen P

Yup.

Kinda amusing how the most viral and frequently posted of all of Matt Walsh’s “documentary” clips trying to get gotchas is a complete nothing burger. Campfirewest really can’t figure out that the bit about suicide was talking about how humans have a much more complex sense of things - including gender identity - than chickens? Utterly banal.

what part of that was a gotcha uke?

I also think uke tried to insert a fake 'implied gotcha'.

I think he seems like a fairly reprehensible person from what I have heard about him, but she sounded pretty stupid talking about chickens and gender identity.

Does a chicken commit suicide? Wtf?

It was misgendered

Uh HE brought up chickens and she, rather correctly if slightly inarticulately, pointed out that the kind of conversations about gender identity we have in humans just isn’t relevant to chickens. Like the dude traveled around pretending to have serious conversations with experts but was actually making a “documentary” trying to collect as many clips of people looking as stupid as possible as gotchas. And his best most viral example of that is just a nothing burger.

Didn't he get people to admit that a woman is a person who thinks they are a woman?

how does a 13 yaer old get his dick chopped off?
wtf? he never had an orgasm, how can he opt out of something he never experienced?? he will never have an orgasm in his life again.

That sounds totally fine. Anyone got anything that isn’t utterly banal?

That was the point though. It was to show that gender is essentially faith based.

It doesn't seem banal to me.

Had the responses been "well scientists have discovered a gender gene and for women that gene is switched on", then Walsh would have been rebuked but he didn't get that response.

Of course per my discussions with Browser none of this we are allowed to talk about, as he seems to believe that anything other than a genetic basis for gender is delegitimizing trans people.

Uke's never seen the movie yet he is an expert on the movie and what is in it
