Cher was already picked, and it's correct. Shatner and Andrews and Smith are wrong answers.

I'll give you the answer, only because I just mentioned her before I posted the trivia question lol.

Shirley Jones

Best Supporting Actress Oscar for Elmer Gantry in 1960 and a no. 1 hit with her step-son, David Cassidy, as The Partridge Family with "I Think I Love You" in the early 70s. Cassidy and Jones are the actually singers on the song, but the rest of the musicians were session and not the actors on the show.

Although, now that I think about it, Will Smith might have actual joined the list last year! Let me check.

John Cole gets it right!

Will Smith has had 2 no. 1 hits - "Wild Wild West" and "Gettin' Jiggy With It."

So I guess there are FIVE performers who have done it.

never heard of

You've never seen the Partridge Family or The Music Man??

You must be young lol

In my quest for my unknown musical, I ran across Fritz Langs infamous Snake Dance segment from one of his films... Oh my.

It is to me!

Wow I thought Will Smith won an Oscar for Ali. I guess that was Denzel’s Training Day year. But all this time I’ve thought of Will Smith as an Oscar winner for some reason.

so my 1st mate application is not disqualified!

He didn't really want to do so, but apparently the academy refused to give him one until he punched someone on stage at their awards ceremony, so he really had no choice.

The closest approximation to Payne as a filmmaker that I can think of is Jim Jarmusch. They both make movies about people talking, for the most part, and being just, well, human. With all the wonder and frailty that that implies.

I thought Downsizing was underrated, although I may be its only fan.

Are there ANY vintage 'musicals/dance' Film experts in the tread?

I have been looking for musical/dance film that I saw many years ago and for the life of me I can not place it, and I have been looking for a couple years now. I have scoured IMDB also. In technicolor.

I can't even accurately remember the actress that was doing the dance sequence, but I do remember what was happening. It was a film based in and around late 1940's to mid 1950's

This has to be Guys and Dolls, right?

Not quite as described but I always thought Cyd Charisse was ahead of her time in Girl Hunt:

Nah, it's neither of these. Let me sleep on it.

That Bandwagon clip was very interesting... I've never seen that before. It's quite stunning. But it was wholly different in style from that typical staged routine. It was a sound stage, but it was performed like a stage play... it was like two people in love... or lust.

I dont think it was cyd charisse... I know how famous she was for her sultry dance routines.. but it was someone that I had know from another roll.. like Brady bunch or partridge family, and I know thise two women are famous for their early careers. I am not sure it was Debbie Reynolds or Doris day... but you can see the lady types I am remembering

def not guys and dolls.

fwiw I played sky masterson when I was 15.
I really wanted to play nathan detroit but I was the only guy tall enough to not be towered over by the girl playing my love interest and I was not happy about it.

and this was good 9yrs before I had any idea I was gonna end up a degenerate gambler.

Saw dunes in imax today , first time i saw it in its entirety and while i wasnt a huge huge fan of it (i have trouble suspending logic), the imax experience makes movie 5x better to watch.

i don't think i would have been able to enjoy it nearly as much as i did if it was a regular tv

also the theater was 99% packed which is kinda crazy for movie that was released 2 years ago and the last movie i saw last night had 3 people including me and my girl , total.

mschu

finally got around to watching that short film about the old folksy guy

i liked, the people behind making it are clearly talented writing, storytelling, & and just putting it all together

but it was just a little too on the nose for me, too in your face and preachy, like c'mon, even in the remote chance 3rd degree murder/manslaughter were given death penalty then that's an extremely narrow portion of the kind of people on death row, felt like all too perfect of a cherry picked (because it's fabricated) example meant to elicit thoughts and feelings against capital punishment - would have been a million times better if it dropped that patronizing tone and just made it someone who did something intentionally horrific and were now seeking forgiveness/coming to terms and being at peace with it all

great film though, thank you for sharing, i really like it when you share those here
