Edit: RULES FOR THIS THREAD

2+2 Rules

Posting guidelines for Politics and Soci...

These are our baselines. We're not reinventing the wheel here. If you aren't sure if something is acceptable to post, its better to ask first. If you think someone is posting something that violates the above guidelines, please report it or PM me rather than responding in kind.

To reiterate some of the points:

1. No personal attacks. This is a broad instruction, but, in general, we want to focus on attacking an argument rather than the poster making it. It is fine to say a post is antisemitic; it is not okay to call someone an antisemite over and over. If you believe someone is making antisemitic posts, report them or PM me. The same goes for calling people "baby killers" and "genocide lovers". You are allowed to argue that an action supports genocide or that the consequences of certain policies results in the death of children, but we are no longer going to be speaking to one another's intentions. It is not productive to the conversation and doesn't further any debate.

2. Racist posts and other bigoted statements that target a particular group or individuals of such groups with derogatory comments are not allowed. This should not need further explanation.

3. Graphic Images need to be in spoilers with a trigger warning.

4. Wishing Harm on other posters will result in an immediate timeout.

5. Genocidal statements such as "Kill 'em all" etc, are no longer permissible in the thread.

If anyone has any questions about the above, please PM me. I don't want a discussion about the rules to derail the content of this thread. If anything needs clarifying, I will do that in this thread.

Please be aware this thread is strictly moderated
You guys really learned nothing from the W Bush years, did you.

Why would Netanyahu pause the Gazan war for Biden? I am not seeing the political incentive here.

In fact, I see a bunch of political incentives to keep the war going for Netanyahu.

So Maersk announced they are shutting down in the Red Sea.

Pretty wild that a country with no food and one of the highest birthrates and population growth in the world that relies completely on handouts from the international world is going to just majorly disrupt the world economy like this, without almost no pushback. But it is what it is I guess. Maybe civilization had its run, and it is just time to go back to the Stone Age.

Yemen isn't doing this. Oil-rich Iran is. And there is a degree of pushback in terms of US and UK air attacks.

no Im pretty sure its Yemen

Trolly I know you think you are clever. But has it ever dawned on you that perhaps you aren't as clever as you think? Is it remotely possible?

It's THREE MILES from Gaza to Nir Oz. Even you could probably run 3 miles in under an hour.

So we're talking about a conflict with a sworn enemy that doesn't want to stop, in fact it very much wants to continue, and who just said today that 2 states won't fly (it has to be River to the Sea).

THREE MILES.

So clever Trolly looks at conflicts like Iraq (6000 miles) and Afghanistan (7000 miles) and cries HAVE YOU NOT LEARNED. Are there vague similarities? Perhaps. Muslims, guerrilla warfare, counterinsurgency, radical islam. But that's it bud. The United States did not have an ongoing security concern 3 miles off the border. And the second they would, it's a whole other set of considerations to safe guard your people.

So please, relax with the broad sweeping inaccurate comparisons.

Netanyahu can't decide these things alone, there's a war cabinet. By the time the Biden election comes, the Israeli election will have already happened.

But giving Biden, who has had Israel's back, a breather on a big foreign policy issue here, isn't that weird to me. I think Biden is better for Israel than Trump (which surprised a lot of people tbh but here we are). The USA has been working very hard to cool the worst of the hostilities given the upcoming American election. This much as they say, is known. I think if there wasn't an upcoming election, the USA would have been far less inclined to visibly attempt to broker peace here.

In theory trump should be better than biden on Israel
But in practice, with him bitter about Bibi, not so sure

Bibi just needs to book a delegation to stay at Trump's hotel in DC for a month and rack up a 7 figure bill and Trump will be all smiles.

Bibi hates Biden lol

Kind of a sick brag for a country with no navy

Ya they are total badasses. Critical support.

Interesting that the self described forum "feminist" and "leftist" are celebrating perhaps the most patriarchal, right wing, misogynistic society (with perhaps the worst governance resulting in their entire society having no food) on the planet attacking innocent sailors and disrupting global free trade. I mean these are the guys that literally brought back slavery and their slogan includes "curse upon the Jews" and we are celebrating them?

I understand the enemy of my enemy (in this case Western Civliization) is my friend axiom, but at some point there should be some self awareness and self reflection of who and what you are supporting.

How many sailors have the Houthis killed?

Making an observation is not the same as celebrating. I think you misunderstood my sarcasm. It wouldn’t be the first time.

You really are that morally vacuous, aren't you?

They captured an entire crew of sailors with no Israelis or Americans on board weeks ago, and we have no clue what kind of physical or psychological condition they are in. They regularly fire indiscriminately at commercial vessels and just because they have mostly missed or had the missiles intercepted doesn't change the intent at all. They literally reintroduced slavery. They rank dead last in gender equality*. A giant % of their people are literally starving because the society is mismanaged so poorly. Biden actually took away their designation as a terror group precisely so it would be legally easier to give them much needed aid.

Yemen: One of the Worst Places in the World to be a Woman

I mean if you support a return to 7th century right-wing patriarchal, tribal societies where 90% of children die from poor care than just own it. But keeping the facade you are a "leftist" while cheering Houthis is pretty absurd.

Victor is definitely celebrating them, and this isn't the first time. If you were being sarcastic, fair enough.

One of the more popular chants currently in Ivy League pro-Palestinian marches is “Yemen, Yemen make us proud, turn another ship around,” on top of the usual "River to the Sea" and calls for "global intifada".

Something tells me these groups aren't being sarcastic. I mean, at best you hope they are just ignorant, but even this best case scenario would say a lot about the state of higher education/leftist activism in January 2024.

they were starving bc USA and Saudi Arabia imposed a blockade.

but they somehow won that war and now they are the only country doing anything to stop a genocide. thats why I say critical support. thats different from uncritical support, which is the support that you guys give to the baby killers in the IOF.

hey vic, move it to the rap thread will ya?

you can say it now, I guess , leave it all out.

The largest and wealthiest navy in the world being bested by penniless glorified pirates with cheap weaponry is remarkable. Just not in the way you interpreted it.
