ex-President Trump

ex-President Trump

I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?

So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at low-info Boomers like my religions aunts. I have two questions:

a) Is anyone here who supports Trump bothered by lies like this?

b) Does anyone know what he's even talking about here? Like is there some grain of truth that he's embellishing on bigly?

The funniest part is you took as an insult me just identifying you by the political group you are clearly parroting

The fact that you took me calling you out on your beliefs and not wanting you to be intellectually dishonest by pretending otherwise and you took it as me insulting you seems to imply you think identifying as a MAGA is an insult which:

1. Says more about you than it does me and
2. Says WAY more about you that you’re going to pretend you’re spitevoting for something you yourself are implying makes you a person worth being insulted just to make me ‘mad’ or whatever your reason

Hillary's deplorable comment was the turning point in the 2016 election

If you don't want to engage with me put me on ignore but again, you seem really angry over a conversation

I have tried to convince some trump supporters to support nikki haley by telling them why i think she wild be better, and pointing out why Trump would be worse. I didn't resort to calling them names or having temper tantrums because .. I'm not 12 and I'm not playi

Hillary deplorable comment was one of the many reasons an extremely close election was decided on tiny margins, but it's not like it moved a ton of votes.

I think we are way past that, inasmuch the left (not only in the USA) tends to fully demonize any rightwing candidate or group no matter what, and people not on the left already know that's the normal approach in the political discourse, so it doesn't move votes anymore to do so.

They lie when they claim it's Trump in particular that allows them to demonize the republican party, and Trump supporters. Just check what they said to people who were pro De Santis.

Trump won by such a tiny margin there are no less than a hundred I’m sure reasons that by themselves can explain why it happened:

1. ‘Basket of deplorables’ spite
2. Bernie
3. Stein
4. 538 polling being misrepresented and people who would have wanted to vote clinton not coming out cuz they assumed Clinton was winning anyway so they wanted the smugness of saying ‘ I didn’t vote for her’
5. 4 but they wrote in Harambe
6. 4 but they voted trump
7. Comey
8. The weather
Etc

poor 538 was the only aggregator giving a decent chance of winning to Trump, while others said HRC was at 99%+

A survey from the Princeton Election Consortium has found that Hillary Clinton has a 99 per cent chance of winning the election over Donald Trump.

Three days before the election, Ms Clinton has a projected 312 electoral votes, compared to 226 for Mr Trump. A total of 270 electoral votes are needed to win.

The probability statistic was found by the university’s statistical Bayesian model.

I got news for you. The current republican party aint your mama's republican party. They have no ideology. No backbone. No ethics.

They let a cancer grow instead of stomping it out.

The situation is the same in most european countries. The left describes it's opponents as basically illegitimate thugs.

That happens to Meloni, Le Pen, Wilders, Boris Johnson, to AfD, to Vox and so on.

Elsewhere it happens to Bolsonaro and Milei.

The left has become deeply undemocratic, it considers political platforms based on values different than the left ones as illegal and representatives of those values, and voters voting those values, as inherently unworthy of participating in the political process .

This happens because the move to the extremes of the left (on regulations, immigration, climate change, LGBT issues and so on) is making it harder and harder for them to win elections.

They even hate their own fellow leftists when they are moderate.

Maybe the western cancer is leftism, Trump just one of the many very bad reactions a society sick with leftism has.

Trump can't happen in a society where Biden is the median leftist, but it can happen when 20% of college professors self identify as at least partially Marxist (when the only societally acceptable number should be 0) and 80%+ of teachers vote left (when it should be the same proportion of the population)

Or maybe the right has just moved towards fascism, and deplorable autocratic leaders, because they don't care for democracy or the change that inevitably goes with it.

Extreme?

the best part about the deplorables comment and the fall out of it, was SHE WAS RIGHT!. like she was right more than most of us knew about people..

eta- dont get me wrong, her campaign was ****. but that deplorables comment was truth.

the left calls the right hateful people because they discriminate against minorities.

the right calls the left pedophiles and groomers because of conspiracy theories.

You calling names is dumb

Im likely not voting for trump this year but have in the past. I'm never closet anything

But again using maga as an insult is a big reason trump might win

“Dont call conservatives dumb because they’ll respond by proving you correct.”

Your argument presupposes they are dumb fwiw. Regular adults are expected to look at the candidates and vote for the one they think will do the best job.

by biggerboat P

Extreme?

Yes, extreme, as compared to historical average.

The right isn't more extreme than it was on most issues, the left almost invariably is.

Most of the left wasn't pro gay marriage, pro unlimited immigration, pro ever-increasing social spending, pro ever-increasing regulations in all aspects of life.

I know you guys call all moves toward the left extreme progress, the fact that some things might have been progress doesn't change the fact that on actual policies, the median democrat voter in 1986 would today be on the right of the median maga voter today.

by biggerboat P

Or maybe the right has just moved towards fascism, and deplorable autocratic leaders, because they don't care for democracy or the change that inevitably goes with it.

The guy that threatened to veto the nth reapproval of the Patriot act (the most actually fascist piece of legislation in American postwar history), thus letting the congress drop it, being called more "fascist" than the guys who invented the Patriot act, and who kept him later, is truly incredible to hear.

Also, notice how this never breaks the other way? We never hear about how Trump's constant personal attacks push mets toward the Democrats, it's weird because Trump is vastly more obnoxious and insulting than any other candidate in modern history.

It's patently dishonest and self-serving. Mets wants people to stop saying mean things about Trump voters and Trump apologists because he's one of them, not out of any concern over tone or civility.

It is definitely absolutely exhausting how people who are full throated trumpers will pretend they aren’t because even they themselves recognize the optics but get mad when you call them out on it when they forget to put the mask back on

Own it or don’t, you are what you are. And that’s fine, but pretending like I (or someone else) made you back into a corner where you feel you have to vote for trump as a pretense to protest against me (or someone else) being mean to you is a level of pure stupidity that wouldn’t fool a ****ing child

Lozen, ins0 and now Mets have made a whole ass meal pulling this **** ITT. Which is great cuz it gives me an excuse to exercise my ignore list, but man, who are you fooling?

by biggerboat P

It was likely a factor in 2016, but not so sure anymore.

There really isn't anything good to say about a bunch of people that idolize a lying conman and would like nothing better than to toss out our democracy to make him king.

There's some truth to that, but politically calling them names is a turnoff to moderates

It's actually one of the reasons i will likely vote against Trump

Even if i like a lot of the policies that he did, i have no faith that he'll do anything but get revenge right now
Again saying i never called out Trump for being a douche is wrong and another bad assumption about me

I think trumps douchiness is what cost him the election in 2020, not covid

But that's the point. Anyone who says anything not nice about trump must like mean things

It's sad actually

I really want haley to be president but I'll vote joe manchin if he gets the no labels nod

If neither of those happen, I'm not sure what im doing

Not mean

Typo

If i have to be called a name, I'll take MAGA over washoe

remind me again how many insulting nicknames did their orange god have for people prior to the deplorable comment?

yeah, i'm sure hilldawgs comment really swung things...

lol

Trump insulted his opponents

Hillary insulted the voters

The fact that you don't get the difference isn't surprising

LOL yeah, all those fence sitters who fell towards the name caller for being called a name.

ok man, ok.
