ex-President Trump

ex-President Trump

I assume it's still acceptable to have a Trump thread in a Politics forum?

So this is an obvious lie - basically aimed at low-info Boomers like my religions aunts. I have two questions:

a) Is anyone here who supports Trump bothered by lies like this?

b) Does anyone know what he's even talking about here? Like is there some grain of truth that he's embellishing on bigly?

Running joke by a guy in my office who did criminal defense was "They are offering you two years....but I think I can get you four."

You implied that Trump had a pending defamation claim against Jean Carroll. Is that something that you just made up?

As usual, you have your facts wrong. It appears that Robbie Kaplan was working on a contingency, which is very, very different than working pro bono.

Lawyers in the U.S. work on a contingency basis a

oh , thats what you meant. no, I did not make this up.
trump said he would appeal and sue for defamation.
he changed his lawyers now, because they obviously sucked.
they went from a 5M fine to a 83m fine. first step now is appeal.

the pro bono, was probably wrong yes, the case was paid for by a
dem megadonor.

how did he manage this and when was that? NY is all left leaning, right?
so Im not even a bit surprised that he managed to do this. its probably pretty easy to do as a republican nowadays?

I haven't seen any evidence that Carroll's lawyers are being paid fees along the way. They appear to be working on a pure contingency. The other person seems to have covered some of the OOP expenses associated with litigation. That's all.

WTF are you talking about? What fine?

A Jury awarded her 83 mil because the dumbass repeatedly said she was a liar for the years following the civil rape verdict of 5 mil (most of which was punitive to punish his conduct).

Where did Trump say that he was going to sue again for defamation after he already lost on summary judgment? Good luck with that.

It won't matter. The reality is that Trump no longer has access to good lawyers for things like his defamation case. That's what happens when you are a client who (i) lies chronically; (ii) doesn't follow legal advice; (iii) doesn't pay your bills; and (iv) is more than willing to throw his lawyers under the bus for political reasons.

Who wants to buy a ticket for that sort of ride?

linkedin founder encouraged and bankrolled it all.

"LinkedIn Founder Is Secretly Funding E. Jean Carroll’s Lawsuit Against Trump
Reid Hoffman, the billionaire behind LinkedIn who’s now a megadonor to Democrats, has been quietly bankrolling E. Jean Carroll’s rape case against former President Donald Trump, according to court records filed Thursday.

The surprising last-minute disclosures came out in contentious correspondence between lawyers for the aggrieved journalist and the pissed off former president, who are battling over whether to delay the trial scheduled to start in two weeks.

While it’s unclear if that payment arrangement has any material impact on the case itself, the fact that it remained secret until now will surely support Trump’s unrelenting, conspiratorial complaints that ultra rich liberals have been pulling the strings on the efforts to take him down." https://www.thedailybeast.com/linkedin-f...

Yeah. There was no fine. This was a damages award.

Right. According to what Carroll and Robbie Kaplan told the court (and Kaplan would be crazy to lie in this circumstance), Hoffman was paying some or all of the OOP expenses, not legal fees.

Did you believe Dominique Strauss Khan accuser? He got destroyed there.

Do you believe the accusers of Assange who claim he is a rapist?

I have no idea who DSK is, and I know very little about the Assange case.

What do those have to do with the child molesting accusations against Michael Jackson? I believe those.

by Luciom P

I actually defend common sense, it's absurd to be liable for damages that way and you know that, it's also impossible to have an impartial jury when the defendant is an ex president and the judgement is about how much you trust him, and you know that as well.

I am not a Trumpian at all but i really hate the me too movement and ideas and i see just one of the many reflections of them in this case.

Btw i listed a very leftwing person who was d

I agree that it was probably impossible to have a completely impartial jury. But what else can they do? It wouldn't be right to drop charges against any mega-famous person just because everyone knew him.

by lozen P

I am always have some skepticism when someone comes forward 20 years later against a famous person . Though I have not read the transcript but I do go you were in a changing room could you not have screamed . Though I have never seen the changing rooms described , was the store busy

It's amusing that a guy who admitted that he just rolls up and grabs women by the pussy has a bunch of people in disbelief that he just grabbed a woman by the pussy 🤣

When Trump said, "and they let you do it when you're famous," he was talking about how they're not inclined to scream or report him to police.

Do you believe Bill Clinton is a rapist and guilty of statutory rape?

I think if Trump could actually attract some quality legal representation he would fair better in court. Though I know if I was a lawyer I sure wouldn't want him for a client. He can't shut up .

I have a hard time listening to any NYC real estate mogul complain about a litigation result. As a group, NYC real estate people have a reputation for being wildly litigious and for having absolutely no compunction about using litigation as a tool to intimidate, harass, bully, evade, delay the inevitable, or otherwise exert leverage. And in my anecdotal experience, that reputation is well-deserved.

Yeah, but you were supposed to take him seriously but not literally. Or literally but not seriously. Or something something something.

it's hard to "fair better in court" when you did all of the things you are being accused of no matter who your lawyers are.

So this Georgia case seems like it ain’t going so well. Best case scenario, DA started banging a guy she hired to do the case after it started and she thought it was enough of an issue to pay him back in cash for all of their dates but not important enough to disclose. I’d guess Trump will skate on that one.

NYC case apparently set for March sounds like the lamest of the bunch, basically no victim, no loss, and Cohen as a star witness. Decent chance he walks on that too.

So pre-election Trump could have one acquittal and one case either dead or stalled interminably while this conflict of interest stuff is ironed out, and can point to that as witch hunt proof. Great.

Do you realize that in theory, people who already had an opinion about trump shouldn't have been allowed to be part of a jury judging trump right?

Ofc you can't find 9 people who never heard of him so there is no solution but keep in mind that

His representation in the SCOTUS 14a case seems very good

Even people who hate him should realize that's very implausible that he forced his hand inside a 53y woman without her consent in a cloth shop during business hours

why would you think that two people already on the same side who have no reason to be impartial having an affair would matter to the merits of the case?

why? if anything with how he boasts about similar feats it's the exact opposite imo.

How does he walk from the classified documents case?

Nah, not with random ppl in shops lol.

Anyway, doesn't matter, she says he says and if you dislike him you are going to believe her.

I don't not because I like him but because rape allegations have been abused since forever to destroy people and i won't believe any unless it comes from a person I personally know and trust, if there is no direct unassailable evidence.

They took Kevin Spacey down, I don't forget.

This isn't the legal standard.
