The costs of trans visibility
Yesterday, Dylan Mulvaney broke her silence: https://www.tiktok.com/@dylanmulvaney/vi....
For context, this is a trans influencer who built a 10 million strong following on TikTok. She took a brand deal with budweiser to post an ad on an instagram, and the anti-trans right went absolutely ballistic, calling for a boycott, condemning the company, and to some perhaps unknowable degree it influenced that Budweiser sales dropped by a 1/4 and
. Dylan speaks more personally about the effect of the hatred on her. What strikes me about this story is that it is just about visibility. This isn't inclusion in sports or gender-affirming care for minors, it was just that a trans person was visible. This wasn't even visibility in a TV commerical that a poor right-winger is forced to see, it was an ad on her own instagram page. We're all in our own social media algorithm influenced bubbles, but from my vantage point it really has seemed that in the last year or so things have just gotten worse for trans people and the backlash to even minor visibility is growing.
We need to do better.

You don't think laws that ban trans people going to the washroom of their gender target trans people? Is this one of those silly word play games where you say that because it also bans, say, cis men from going in women's bathrooms it isn't targetting trans people at all despite the obvious group being negatively affected is trans people?
couldn't you argue that it targets everyone who uses bathrooms?
this is why I just try to pee outside as much as I can.
You could, but that would be silly. The obvious group that it negatively effects - and the reason for all this new legislation in republican states - is specifically because of trans people.
It doesn't target trans people. It blocks radical leftists from imposing their views on society.
Even if the left does everything in its power to cover them, rightwing trans people exist, and they don't want to use the other bathrooms, nor to impose anything on third parties, they just want to be left alone which is all right-wing people normally ask for.
"Live in the wrong gender"
So if it negatively effects the trans gender person because they can not use the bathroom of their choice can that not be said for the individual that feels uncomfortable having that trans person in their space ?
As it goes for washrooms this is mainly for older schools because newer schools are being built with gender neutral washrooms . I am not sure how this will work if you have separate washrooms for boys/girls and than a non gender bathroom or will all the washrooms be gender neutral
When it comes to commercial spaces you are just seeing companies get away from men and women's washrooms and having a bunch of single washrooms which they designate gender neutral which is smart. I am not sure schools have the space
But this isn’t even remotely true. You you care about the worldwide “have a dick” bathroom rule that is under attack and that any use of pronouns because of gender is a slippery slope to leftist world domination according to your last dozen posts here.
But, of course, this case has nothing to do with drugs, sterilization or surgery, or any other worst case scenario you think you need to protect people from themselves and their doctors. Again, another straw an argument by you.
This is a case about a female, who identified as non binary, dressed like a male, was bullied for it and may have died from an altercation in a bathroom she was forced by law to use. No one was forcing a leftist ideology on anyone. No mention of taking drugs, body mutilation, or taxpayer money.
It’s just you, trying to justify why it’s okay to bully kids based on your concern for right wingers feels.
The group that wants to control sexual conduct between two adults, marriage laws, access to birth control and criminalize abortion just want to be left alone. You are hysterical.
Not really....people getting beat up in school bathrooms is a well-known thing.
Correct, and this kind of restroom should be the standard.
News flash: boys don't really like having to pee with other boys watching either. I have no idea why this was ever seen as acceptable.
Or even more easily, by parents stopping being *******s....well, I guess that's not too easy for most parents unfortunately.
Because it required less space, and before we had those options people just urinated near trees or in street corners.
Keep in mind for a while we had the "turk" bathroom as well for solid, which is something no one is comfortable using either
I have never had an issue with it in school I can remember the ball park having troughs to pee in . Though I can remember being scared silly to go in a cubicle . Id go home if I had to poop 😀
Interesting article/ opinion piece on child gender transition
Is this another poll with a sample size of one?
Yeah, tell that to all the kids who just drop their pants to their ankles and go to town at a full length urinal.
The hiding of your junk in a bathroom is a learned behavior.
Basically everything tied to shame is a learned behavior, and our general lack of shame is why society is so ****ed right now.
None of that changes the fact that Nex could have been bullied or faced trouble in a male female or coed restroom. As could any other teen for a myriad of reasons. I don;t think the type of restroom is the issue here.
again, your bias is showing, you fail to even recognize it's not about trans people at all, it's so people like me can't just walk into the ladies room
Your human rights are being denied, what if tomorrow you felt non binary? It's always a trans issue when anyone at any moment can feel non binary, which is literally what Bryce claimed to be the case.
When the legislation is passed with laws about transgender athletes and gender care, it’s not about people like you, whatever that group may be.
this, a lot of old bathrooms in china don't even have dividers on the stalls, no exaggeration
sometimes they offer a little bit of privacy
sometimes none
and yes, those are all squat toilets for taking dumps, they have the troughs for urination at the front of the bathroom
came across this bathroom in palestine, texas - which looked like quite the adventurous place to take a dump
Lol. You think that the slew of anti-trans laws from GOP governments in the last couple years is all about the sudden new problem of cis men going into women's bathrooms and not at all related to the obvious ****ing target which is trans people?
ok buddy
I did not say that.
